I wanted soul food today. Just my luck The Grille House was just across the street from my hotel. I…read morewalked in just before 5pm and it was almost empty. Just perfect. My server was Tera. Friendly and helpful. I knew that I wanted the catfish but not sure of the sides. Tera went over every side for me. I settled on candid yams. As I waited for my catfish to be cooked, I looked over all the jersey memorabilia they had from various sports teams and fraternities. This place gets super busy I was told. Thursday nights they have karaoke starting at 5pm. My catfish order came out. It had buttery grilled toast as a side, topped with lettuce and tomatoes. I'm a southern girl, I only needed the Fish and bread. The fish was perfectly season. All I needed to add was some hot sauce. OH My Gosh- Delish As I say enjoying my meal, old school R&B was playing. I truly enjoyed the serenity of my dinner. I'll definitely be back when I'm in Albany GA in the near future.

The cooks, although I didn't get their names, my food was perfect, the pork chop, collard greens (bam)! I saw reviews about the french fry because they are cut and frozen. But the cooks knew how to season them perfectly. I don't know if it was the southern charm, or the southern hospitality of the staff, the DJ and the patrons, but we could not have picked a better place to celebrate this monumental quest. I'm so glad we made new friends. I WOULD RECOMMEND

Went here after attending service at Marantha Baptist Church. This seemed to be a popular go-to…read moreafter service at the church, as I saw a lot of familar faces from the congregation and many of them had recommended the restaurant to us as well (or I guess not much is opened in the small town). The Silo is a small, meat and three, cafeteria-style restaurant, with a small, humble range of choices obviously cooked fresh. There really was only a plate option available with your choice of entree (fried chicken/meatloaf), 2 sides, cornbread, dessert (only pie that day), and sweet tea. The chicken was piping hot when we got it, tender and juicy but could've had a little more seasoning. The mac and mashed potatoes were decent, as well as the cornbread which had a nice bit of crust. I really liked the peanut butter pie I got, not too sweet and light enough to finish after a pretty heavy meal.

Honestly, it was just okay for me. We went on 10/14/18 after attending a Marantha Baptist Church…read moreservice. They were doing buffet style, they may do that all the time, not sure. For $9.95 you got, an entree (Fried Chicken Quarter or Baked Spaghetti), 2 veggies (MacCheese, Green Beans, Rutabaga, couple of others), Peach Cobbler, biscuit/cornbread, and tea. For a bakery, a DEEP south one at that, you would expect the cobbler to be really good...not so much. It was all edible, but something was off, perhaps it just wasn't seasoned enough. Like there wasn't any sugar or salt in anything. Everybody was super friendly, and these folks were FAST! The restaurant was clean and comfortable. It's one of the only food options in town, and the only thing available on this Sunday.

Also came with a huge wedge of cake. The chicken was very flavorful and fried well. The green beans were tasty as well. I wasn't a fan of the cake..a bit dry. And who doesn't love a creamy Mac n cheese. I had heard great things about the food here so I was glad I was finally able to try it. They lived up to their reputation.

A quintessential…read moremeat-and-three in the Auburn area, Pannie-George's definitely gives patrons a truly southern experience. I've been to hundreds of these local eateries all over the Southeast and will offer my honest opinion. In true Lower Alabama fashion, the fried chicken batter is thin and crispy (not thick and crunchy), the mac 'n' cheese is runny but cheesy, and the pork chops are soaked in gravy. It's delicious comfort food for the after-church crowd pouring in on a Sunday, or customers looking for an affordable bite to eat on a weekday. There are some downsides that prevented my rating from mirroring the stratospheric and glowing reviews on user-driven platforms like Yelp. While the batter is wonderful, the chicken is dry. The rice is uneventful. And the mac 'n' cheese was a little runnier than I prefer but wonderfully flavorful nonetheless. The choices for bread were stale Hawaiian rolls or homemade cornbread. For dessert, the lemon pie is quite delicious. And the experience is authentic and enjoyable. I recommend Pannie-George's for a simple, hearty meal.
