I brought my friend in to celebrate her birthday and I loved that they allowed me to bring in an ice bucket and a couple bottles of champagne to enjoy during our experience there. They even provided us with cups. The scent selection is enormous and I love that the menu has so many options (diffuser, fragrance oils, candles, wax melts and room sprays [room sprays not customizable]). We each made multiple things in various scents. They had scents I've never even heard of. Our fragrance specialist (i made that title up) Natasha was the sweetest and she was extremely helpful when my friend wasn't confident about the scents she was developing. Natasha guided her and gave her suggestions of what she could add, take away and use more or less of until she came out with multiple products she loved. We look forward to our next visit. read more

What a neat experience! The fam wanted to do a fun activity over the holidays. I stumbled upon The Candle Pour while searching for fun activities in or near Hyde Park. I suggested candle making and another activity and candle making was everyone's top choice. We made a reservation for a party of six and arrived a few minutes early. We were greeted and got started right away. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We got to choose the type of candle, the size, and the scent(s). There are over 100 scent options, so it can be overwhelming if you're indecisive or not sure of what you want. I chose pine needles, white pepper, and black oud for my scents. After choosing our scents, the staff walked us through the pouring process step by step. Once the candle is poured, it will need to set for two hours before it is ready to go home. Since they were closing, we decided to come back another day to pick them up. We all loved our scents and were excited to light them. However, you have to wait two weeks before lighting them, which was the tough part! We've had our candles for almost three months now and use it sparingly since we like them so much and don't want to run out quickly. Not a terrible price for them having a plethora of scents on hand, but our experience wasn't the best it could've been. It was a pretty slow night - only two other groups of two. And at least 3 staff members. The spot is gorgeous and cutest of course being in Hyde Park. But the person helping us barely engaged with us outside of the standard instructions. We felt like we were kind of on our own mainly because they were chit chatting with the other staff member so much. There were even times when they would come back to help us with something and continue looking away talking to their colleague. It didn't feel like we were getting a personal "experience". It felt like we were just like a conveyor belt of candle makers and the staff member was absentmindedly checking in to make sure we were doing it right. I have made candles at home before so I generally know how it works(we didn't NEED much attention). So I was hoping for a little extra insight. Maybe a talk about how to best create scents or what goes into the melting machine/process....something more than "here's what we got and you just put it together". My husband and I were in Tampa for a conference, one of the things you do is plan a night out while there, so My husband planned a night at the Candle Pour. The conference was canceled so My husband called to see if we could move the reservation from Saturday night to Friday afternoon, which they accommodated. This was such a great experience for so many reasons, but let me tell you how it starts. When we walked in we were greeted right away - by name! and sat at a long bar. The gentlemen there gave us the basic run down. You get this paper with all these smells on it, you go to a wall full of those smells then you circle any you like. Once done, you go back to the bar and he helps you formulate your candle scent. He reviews all the smells you like, and then lets you know what he believes would go together better. You then mix and mix and mix until you find the smell that works for your candle, the one that is unique to you and that you would like. So we started by smelling, then we started the mixing process a small amount added at a time until the smell is exactly what you want. Can I just tell you, this was so much fun, because it was unique to what I like - not something someone else created, that they liked. All in all this was about 45 minutes and a great time. We laughed and chatted, and got to know the owner a little bit. He gave us some history into the place. The candles take about 2 hours to set and the Owner gave us suggestions on places to go and have lunch so we did that while waiting for our candle to set. We came back just before 2 hours and found that there was an issue with My husbands candle. There was a slight crack/divot in the container and they didn't want us to have problems and offered to redo it and ship it to us. They told us it would be about 2 weeks, which is how long you should wait before lighting it anyway. They were so apologetic that it occurred. I was very thankful that they found it on last inspection instead of sending us home with it and other issues happening. We got it the next week, and had a lovely hand written note in the box. It was wrapped and protected very well. Today is the first time I got to light my candle (waiting 2 weeks is so hard!!) and it smells so lovely! This was a really cool, different activity that I picked for my and my sister while she was here in town. First off, I love candles, so the opportunity to make my own scented one is too good to pass up. You pay a $10 fee that drops off to reserve a spot at the table (walk-ins are welcome, but the fee is so that you are guaranteed a spot). They take you to their "wall of smells" where you can sample all the scents they have to offer and pick up to four scents that you want to incorporate on your candle. Our guide was fun, helpful, and showed a lot of enthusiasm throughout the process to make sure we were making our candles correctly. She was good about walking us step by step to making our candle from start to finish. As far as the candle goes, I would say its maybe a little more per candle than say, Yankee Candle, however, I think that slight price difference is offset when you consider that you are making the candle yourself and blending the different scents to your liking. I can't believe it's been almost a year since my first visit! I stopped in again this weekend and had just as great of an experience, though a few things were different. Some new scents were available - let's talk about how crispy Ginger Ale is?? Literally transports you right to cracking open a can of the soda. And some more masculine scents were available like cannabis and bacon. This time my blend was more earthy - Pacific Coast, Thunderstorm, Awapuhi, and White Tea. My friend had a beachy floral vibe with coconut, shimmer, blossom, and another one I'm forgetting. They no longer take walk-ins on the weekends due to how popular it's become. That was fine; I had already made a reservation ahead of time. But it was a $10/pp reservation fee that was then NOT applied to the scent experience itself. So while the pricing still seemed fair for a candle ($32 for a small) or fragrance oil ($27) it was a bit odd that the $10 fee was like a booking fee essentially. My friends and I had a Girl's Date here and we all had such a good time. The entire experience of mixing our own scents was new to all of us but that wasn't an issue at all. The staff were all so so knowledgeable with the scents and their compatibility with one another which was helpful when we were stumped on what was missing from our mixture. Note that if you're choosing the candle or wax melt options, they take a couple hours to completely solidify and you will have to pick it up later. Because of this, we opted for fragrance oils. Our teacher teaching the class, didn't really tell us anything except how to put the scent oil into the mold and stir. I visited The Candle Pour with a woman's group I'm in over the holidays. They were able to accommodate the group of approximately 10 of us with a fee of $12 per person to hold the spot. Upon arrive, I was given a scent card and sent to a wall smell candles and pick scents that I like then mark about 10 of them on a paper they gave me that listed all the current fragrances. Once I picked my scents, we sat down and picked which three would go together nicely in a candle. I was then given the supplies to mix the three fragrances I had chosen into the candle in the quantities I wished. Once complete, she poured in the wax and I could come back the following day and pick up my candle. So why three stars? The whole thing was under an hour and cost almost $100 bucks with the candle I choose and tip and reservation fee. It was "an experience" but not a $100 one. I did end up with a candle but I don't like candles that much so.... I would go back if I really really liked the company I was with. I would rather just go to lunch, dinner or drinks. read more

I came here for my birthday with some of my family and I have to say that this was such a fun activity for us! We made a reservation ahead of time for a Friday afternoon, which is recommended since there are limited seats and they did fill up while we were there. Upon arrival, you're given instructions to go to the scent wall and mark the sheet with your top 10-15 scents. Then, you're seated at the table and a staff member will ask you to narrow down your top scents to maybe 5 total, so that they can pull out bottles for you to smell. Also, you'll choose the size and color of your desired candle. Once you narrow down your top scents, you'll pour the desired amount from each bottle into a measuring cup and pour it into the wax mixing for about two minutes before handing it over to the staff member to finish off. Finally, the staff member gives you a reminder of when to return to pick up your finished product at a later time. The staff members are very knowledgeable about making sure that all your scents work together and that none overpower each other (unless you want that of course). The final product is packaged beautifully and my candle smells amazing. It was a great birthday outing! read more

The Candle Pour is truly an experience worth having, and I cannot seem to get enough of it. Upon entering, you are greeted and given a run down of the process. You are given a sheet of paper that lists all of their scents, and directed to the large scent wall where each scent has been crafted into a candle. From there, you sniff the scents you are interested in and mark off your favorites on your list. Once that is done, a staff member will work with you to design your custom blend (they offer great insight and recommendations). You have the options to pick your vessel (candle, wax melt, room spray, etc), and the container size and color. Next you are given the oils you selected, a small measuring cup, and a spoon. You have the ability and free reign to make your blend by pouring how much of each oil you want into the messing cup. Finally, if you are making a candle, they will fill the candle jar with wax, you will pour in your oil blend and stir until they tell you to stop. the candles need two or three hours to set before you pick them up and take them home with you. I have been to the Candle Pour for many date nights, girls nights, holidays, and just because. It makes for a great birthday or holiday gift- you can either make a day out of it and bring someone with you, or make a candle with someone in mind for a more sentimental gift. I highly recommend that you make a reservation; they have some walk-ins but they are often snatched up quickly. I also encourage you to follow the care instructions that come with your candle upon pick up, specifically, waiting 14 days before lighting a candle for the first time. your patience truly does make a difference in the center of the candle and how called the smell is when you burn it. read more

Such a fun experience for a girls night out. I'm currently sitting here with my diffuser going, smelling the new scent I created at The Candle Pour. It's a combination of Mint Leaf and Morning Dew and it is amazing. First off, mad props to Dennis (I hope his name was Dennis, it definitely started with a D). He walked me through the entire experience and I think he has a future as a sommelier. That man has a keen sense of smell. It was a bit overwhelming smelling every candle cork and circling which smells I enjoyed. Later I found out other people didn't smell every single one. I guess I'm just thorough. But that was the hard part and from there on out it was smooth sailing. You can choose to make a candle or an oil. I went with an oil, which was $22. That seems about right when I think about what I paid for other oils. Dennis looked at what I circled and narrowed it down to five scents that go together. From there I got to smell them all and decide the final pairing. With others he smelled their final pairing and suggested a third. Like I said, that man has a great nose. You can bring your own beverages, which is what my group did. There were fifteen of us and there were enough seats for everyone! We got in and out in less than an hour to make our reservations at On Swann. This is the perfect start to a ladies night. This place is SO CUTE!! Everyone is super friendly and we were greeted as soon as we walked in. They have a wall full of scents, arranged alphabetically, that you compare to a checklist they give you. You sniff, you like, you circle. You sniff, you love, you star. If you don't like it, skip it. Once you've gone thru all the smells, the staff will look at what your likes/loves were to help recommend a scent combo based on if you're looking for fresh, or floral, or fruity, or masculine, etc. This is really such a fun process! Once you decide on your custom scent, your next decision is what size candle you'll be making. In my opinion, all candle sizes offered are extremely reasonably priced. They also offer diffusers and some other options too. Then you pour your custom scent into your melted wax and voila - CANDLE! It takes about 90 minutes I'd guess for them to complete the process. I wandered into this store thinking it was your average candle shop until I was surprised by their custom candle making experience!! The workers were so friendly and gave me the whole rundown of the store as well as a free matchbook with their contact info if I ever wanted to make a reservation. I got the smallest sized candle you can make (8 oz), which was $25 in a matte black jar. You first spend your time sniffing different oils to choose what your candle wants to smell like. The employee you are paired with to help you are so knowledgeable about different scents, and they'll help guide you on different combinations that may go well together-kind of like a candle bartender! As someone who is picky with their scents but also very indecisive, the person who helped me was so patient and very helpful. I ended up choosing to put jasmine, lavender, and cashmere oils in my candle. They also give you the choice of either refunding your $10 reservation deposit or putting it towards a candle accessory. I got a snuffer ($10) which was very aesthetic and good quality. Overall, I loved the experience and service. Would I do it again? Probably not, just because I'd prefer to leave it up to the experts and get an even better smelling candle for $25 somewhere else. Also, my candle didn't really smell as strong as I'd like when lit. BUT I would come back for a date night or birthday. *Just as a disclaimer, this experience is not for you if you're expecting a product right away. You have to let your candle set for at least 2 hours before taking it home. So, you'll either need to hang out in Hyde Park Village or come back the next day. The Candle Pour is full of happiness and great aromas. My mom set up a reservation for my father and I to all enjoy as a family since I'm moving back into my dorm soon. The experience was enriching and it was great to go back out and enjoying things after this whole pandemic. I was able to smell all the fragrances and enjoy the ambiance as a whole. Automatically, when you go in you get a sense of fulfillment and angelic air. It's a feeling that one cannot simply just hear someone talk about rather you have to go in and check in for yourself. My mom and I did a regular candle that I believe was $30 and my father had done two car sprays that came out smelling like that "new car smell". If you want to make the car spray for your own use (which I'm sure you'll absolutely love) is leather, vanilla bean and mans cave. Make sure to do extra vanilla bean instead of over powering it with the leather and mans cave. Aside from that, the candles aren't necessarily expensive but what you do spend on them is entirely worth it. This is my second time here and the last candle I had made had lasted a whole month as well as a car spray I had made. The candle was being burned a lot so I was surprised it lasted so long, but that just goes to show how amazing and efficient these candles really are. The employees are nice, but my favorite is Taraheh (I hope I spelled it correctly). She was accommodating and anytime we weren't sure of something she would explain it simply and she looks like she cares and wants to help because she does. We loved selecting our custom scents, choosing our vessels, chatting with the staff...we sat next to a couple on a date, and our 2pm seating was filled with people of all ages.
