The date is undecided, as are many other aspects of the occasion. Therefore, you may be reading quite a few wedding relating reviews over the next few weeks. Anyway, back to this individual review. As you can see this particular business is a catering company that specialises in weddings; as well as Christens, engagements and home functions (which is especially endearing for me with my small family). From our brief visit the company appear to be well established, organised and respected. The staff were really pleasant, friendly, chatty and helpful. Furthermore they were also more then happy to offer a range of suggestions (after realising just how unorganised the wedding momentarily is). These ranged from the bog standard sausage roll buffets to more exotically themed ideas. All of the options seemed fairly reasonably priced - well, so I'm told by my said friend . Moreover, the company were very helpful about transportation, preparation and the massive clear up procedure the following day. The company even suggested some other wedding related companies and/or places for the venue and the like. This all made for an excellent experience which was extremely pleasant, especially given the heightened stresses in this situation. We were certainly happy chappies and if any decisions are made, and acted upon then you'll hear the update on it.

It reminded me of the University Cafe on Byres Road which I also used to frequent on a regular basis years ago; no added fanciness or pretension, a dash of surly waitress and a pinch of chippy grease to soothe the (hungover) soul. Well Coia's Cafe, my how you've grown! Upon 1st entering Coia's quite soon after it reopening I must admit I got sad and longed for the school-style tables and greasy misspelled menus but mostly for the mucho cheapness of the old Coia's. Oof. Then upon visiting Coia's again after this 1st time I grew to love Coia's for what it is now - a great Italian cafe/restaurant. I must admit I do still find the prices a tad steep for myself but having said that you do certainly get what you pay for and wow! Hello big portions! Woof-a-doodle-doo. I'm quite a big eater and I like a healthy (as in unhealthy) sized portion of foodage when I'm dining and Coia's certainly does not disappoint! Stuffed City. Whether it be a lazy weekend brunch/lunch or an evening meal Coia's caters for all. They still have their greasyspoon throwback - the chippy menu alongside quality Italian dishes, such as pizzas and pastas and gorgeous fresh fish of day (I had the sea bass once and it was beautiful) plus lighter bites such as omelette's (which are lovely), baked potatoes (again tasty), toasties and paninis/rolls/baguettes. The desserts are great too. Their own ice-cream (in many flavours) is lush, especially with some of that blood, I mean raspberry sauce on top. Yum. Coia's Cafe also do one of my favourite coffees ever: The Caffe Royale. This is their gorgeous coffee with whipped cream on top. It is better than I just made it sound, honest guv. They also have a tasty wine list and they serve draft Birra Moretti which is equally lovely. If you've never ventured into the dark and mysterious East End/Duke Street then please do not let this put you off coming here to try out one of Glasgow's finest Italian cafe/restaurants, you're missing out if you don't. Only minus point I have is getting a table on a weekend is sometimes a bugger but you're more than welcome to book a table so don't let this put you off as we all know that the best things come to those that wait (hopefully not for too long though...).

Then one day we were passing and starving so decided to give Coia's a whirl. Coia's is traditional Italian, it has an air of authenticity, like a proper family run Italian should. Don't expect modern, fancy schmancy decor, that isn't what they're about, expect to be greeted by 3rd/maybe even 4th generation family members who want to serve you the food they grew up with. Open from breakfast through lunch and dinner the menu has something for everyone. I, a creature of habit, opt for the calzone on every occasion (each time stating I will have something different but never do!) and once you try it you'll understand why! It must be at least 12" in diameter, has the best dough and can be filled with your choice of up to 3 fillings (meatballs, spicy chicken and mozzarella are my fav's). It's amazing and at £10.25 is a fraction of what Papa Johns or Dominos will sting you! Freshly grated Parmesan is always offered for anyone having pasta, rightly so. They also stock my favourite lemon San pellegrino soft drink, this makes me uber happy. Should you have space for pudding there's always a great selection to choose from but I would instead recommend checking out the revolving ice cream wheel...oh my is it awesome! It's part of the deli where you can buy produce to takeaway, always worth a browse. A word of warning though, you can very rarely just turn up and get seated straight away, they are constantly mobbed! Expect to wait a few minutes for a table; as the saying goes though "good things come to those who wait".

Nevertheless, it was my second time at Ian Brown because I liked it so much the first time. It's a cute little restaurant with a nice interior and everyone who works there is really friendly. But I always like to give somewhere a second chance, so we paid it another visit recently. Bookings are pretty much essential for this restaurant, and when you arrived you'll see why. The seating area is tiny and they do their best to cram as many tables in as possible - which is a big part of why this was such an "ok" experience for me. It is just way too crowded, it's really hard to navigate between the tables and you could easily hear most conversations on the surrounding table. I found myself scanning the restaurant and picking two or three tables that they could take out to make the place a lot more spacious - but seeing as it's been like this since it opened I guess they have no plans to change it. If the food was exceptional, I'd probably worry less about the fact it's so crowded. I had the seared West Coast scallops on potato rosti (£8.50) as a starter and baked sea bass fillet with prawn risotto and pak choi (£16.50). The scallops were nice - plump and well cooked but generally I found the dish a little bland and thought they didn't really reach the "seared" description on the menu. I love a potato rosti and this was nice and crisp, possibly needed a bit more seasoning. I didn't enjoy my main, I'll be honest. The fish was fine and had a lovely skin on it but the risotto was gluggy and thick, not smooth and creamy like a risotto should be. The dish also seemed like it needed a proper sauce - as you can see from the photos, there was a little bit of sauce around the edges of the plate but nowhere near enough for the size of the fish. I decided not to have dessert (but Graeme and our friends did). Later on in the night, my friends wanted coffee but we were well and truly ignored as staff were doing their prep for the next day. There was still quite a few tables in the restaurant by this point so it wasn't as though it was right on closing. That being said, I thought the staff were really great the rest of the night so it was just a shame that when we wanted to order more drinks it was a challenge. The bill came to around £45 per head, with a tip including drinks. Safe to say I won't be in a huge hurry to return here again, after another underwhelming visit.

We looked at the menu at a few places around the area, but decided that Gusto & Relish was the winner. Trying not to negate the workout we had, I attempted to order something more on the healthy side. I'm not sure that worked since I ordered the french toast with maple syrup and last minute decided I wanted to try their veggie haggis. I could see the disappointment in my boyfriends heart, being a true lover of haggis, but I do quite like the veggie option when I can get it. He went for scrambled eggs, a fried egg, beans and toast and a coffee. When our food came out, I was a bit put off the way they piled the veggie haggis on top of my sweet french toast, but I ate it first and got on with it. I made my boyfriend try the veggie haggis, and much to my surprise, although he said he'd never actually order it, he didn't hate it. I quite enjoyed it and the massive amount they gave me actually filled me up before I even started on my french toast. The french toast was a massive portion. I'm not really sure what I was expecting, but the slices of toast were really thick and perfectly cooked. The wee pot of syrup that came along could have been a bit bigger, but that's just me being a greedy American wanting my french toast covered in syrup. I would have also loved some powdered sugar (icing sugar as they call it here) and it would have been the best. Needless to say, it was still really great and super filling. I ended up giving a piece to my boyfriend unable to finish the three pieces. The boyfriend quite liked his eggs, beans and toast, but didn't enjoy his coffee one bit. I even tried it- it was very acidic and bitter. I wouldn't have been able to drink it, but my boyfriend drank it like a champ. All in all, our breakfast was delicious and the service was great. While we were waiting for our food, we noticed they have a bunch of Scottish goods for sale, which was great to see. For any of you looking for Suki teas, (I've been on the hunt and have found they're only sold online) they sell a few here. Yay!

I was in for some food but just made a super quick decision when I saw the menu - Eggs Florentine with added spinach. What can I say, I'm a bit addicted to Eggs Benny and all its variations. This place is really nice inside - classier than your average cafe and pretty cosy. The breakfast tea was delicious and service was warm and friendly. I loved the presentation of the eggs - generous with a lovely rocket salad on the side and an added side which I think was a potato scone (I ate it too quickly to remember properly). The only reason I have to dock a star is that the muffins were burnt in parts which I know sometimes happen but my god I hate a burnt muffin. The rest of the dish was just lovely though and I really enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable for the area, and as I said, the staff are really friendly. They don't seem to have a huge deli section (as mentioned in some other reviews) but that wouldn't put me off going back for lunch or breakfast. Also, it looks like they don't have a customer toilet but if you ask the staff, they'll point you behind the counter and past the kitchen down the stairs.
