Stew of the day (beef/bison)
Natalie W.

Stopped by here for lunch and had a satisfying meal. I had the stew of the day, which was beef/bison and was served with rice. It was flavourful and just a nice comforting meal after being out in the cold. My friend had the chicken noodle soup. It was a bit too salty for them, but still tasty. It had plenty of meat in it. I thought the portions were quite good for the price. I found it overall to be affordable. Service was also good and food came out pretty fast.

Kids got a chef's hat while making their pizzas

Back in February my family and friends visited your restaurant and had the best time and easily the best food at Big White. While there, the owner came out and asked us if we were enjoying our visit. I made a comment about how I liked his Thirsty Beaver shirt and he went to check if the brewery still had any in stock. They did not, so what happened? He came out with HIS shirt in a bag as well as brought out the chef with the recipe for their Crown Royal Salmon (which we absolutely loved). My kids got chef's hats and got to make their own pizza. Definitely their favorite place at the resort.

Perfect ambiance for a mountain restaurant. Food was very good and it was easy to get in with no reservation.

This place has good drinks and TVs. Nice place to hang out but the food is atrocious.

And the service and presentation were pleasant. Having had the gold standard, "High Tea" at the Empress in Victoria, I'm spoiled. Comparatively, the flavors weren't strong, tart, and dry enough to complement the tea. Although the smoked duck canapé was terrific, the cucumber sandwich was mediocre, not crisp and light. The egg salad was heavy and gooey (maybe it could have had a touch of curry?), and there's nothing high-brow about a sun-dried tomato tortilla wrap. The scones were good with cream and jam. But not quite the dry, flaky, baking-powder taste that makes you crave more tea. The jam was good, but not the tart strong flavor like a freezer raspberry jam that complements tea well. The desserts were the best part, and who can argue with that? Delicious flavorful (but not overpoweringly so) morsels with, variously, ginger or berries or crème caramel or truffle. And lots of them, and just the right miniature size, so you taste a lot of variety but don't feel like you've over-eaten. My refill of tea was with the original tea bag, so it was undrinkable, and the teapot was the typical heavy diner style that never pours well and drips backwards with every pour. Nothing delicate about this teapot. The right spout to pour tea has been around for centuries - why do restaurants always get such lousy ones? But I digress. Who's to quibble with details Who's only $20 for all this in a beautiful mountain setting? Well worth it and I'd come again.

We were seated quickly and given menus. Beer selection is small and limited to domestic type pale lagers. They have a nice little selection of craft cocktails, which we opted not to try. The wine selection was small but comprehensive and local, with a good half dozen available "on tap" by the glass, 1/2 litre and one litre. We decided on an off-dry Pinot Grigio based blend they had "on tap", skipped the apples and went straight to entrées. I had the special which was a nice salmon filet topped with a light, delicate cream sauce and capers, with broccoli, carrots and beet and a saffron risotto. My girlfriend had the pan seared chicken with truffles and the same sides as me. The salmon was very good and the veggies perfectly done. The chicken was even better than the salmon. But the risotto was absolutely to die for. Creamy, delicate and slightly sweet. For dessert, we got the crème brûlée with a coffee gelato and a chocolate cake, also with gelato. Both were excellent and wonderful Enders to an exquisite meal. Highly recommended. Service was excellent, and very personal. Jean-René, our server, talked about the items on the menu and the options like he made them himself.

This is your place if you enjoy sweeping vineyard views, authentic delights from the smoker, great salads, astonishing wines and uber friendly service! Everything on the menu is fabulous but the ribs are phenomenal (and I'm from Texas where we know a thing or two about ribs!) and the Bison Burger is unbelievably messy but delicious! Everything is smoked over 'retired grape vines' and the flavours are amazing! The staff is amazing both in the wine shop and restaurant. Liz and David (the tallest chef in the valley) are super helpful and welcoming! Of course it is a winery! And while all their wines are super I find their leading seller 'Autumn Gold' to be the perfect match for the BBQ. Although if it's ever available again the Red Horizon Meritage style blend is also dynamite! Smoke and Oak is seasonal and closes for 2020 on October 11 so don't delay!
