No frills eatery and bar. Parking lot is a good size. Walk in and straight ahead is the cashier at the back. Menu boards are over head and alos laminated copies are at the counter. Order and pay for your meal. A table number will be given to you. Pick a table, display your number and a food runner will bring your meal. Soda and water are self serve. The cashier will give you a cup. My taco salad was fresh with a mildy spicy salsa and sour cream on the side. Tater tots are crispy! I am told the beef brisket 'needs something' but not sure what. It is sliced beef, not shreded and is lean. A dining room is on the left of the entrance. A bar w/dining on the right. Two single restrooms are at the back, past the soda machines. Made a trip to Harlan, Ia to The Buck Snort to take on their Big Easy stacked burger challenge. I was in communication with them easily through messenger and go a date set my challenge. The burger consist of 3 of their regular menu burger stacked on top of each other and surrounded by a pound of waffle fries. The burger were all really good, although a big more cooked than I usually perfer, but I don't blame them, because I didn't come out and specify how wanted them cooked. Swamp Donkey Burger - 1/3lb beef burger topped with beef brisket, cheese, onion rings, and BBQ sauce. Monster Buck Burger - three 1/3lb beef burger patties w/ 3 slices of cheese and 3 bacon strips and the Non-Typical Buck Burger - 1/3lb beef burger topped with pulled pork, American cheese, mozzarella cheese sticks, and BBQ sauce With 30 minutes to finish, completion rewards the challenger with a free meal and a Buck snort tshirt. The staff was great and supportive and made the quick meal a pleasure. If I find myself near another Buck Snort restaurant, I'd gladly stop back for a regular meal read more

They were out of buns for their Philly's, restaurants don't run out of buns, they run down to the local grocery store and get more.

You order at the counter then sit and they bring the food to you. Service was quick for appetizers and mains. Fried pickles were hot when delivered but just ordinary bar pickles. Had the brisket sandwich and tater tots. Brisket was flavorful and tender but the bun was nothing too great. Ate the brisket with a fork instead of the bun. read more

I would go back to the Buck Snort. The people at the counter gave very good recommendations and asked extra questions to ensure we got what we wanted on our sandwiches. Good pulled pork and really liked the spicy BBQ sauce. Plenary of seating and kid friendly. read more

I love the Buck Snort and Harlan! My go to is the chicken Cordon Bleu, crispy, with a side of fried cauliflower, and they have the best ranch to dip that all in. Salads are huge and at a fair price. Pulled pork sandwich is delicious. My husband has had the wraps and loves them. I love the fried pickles spears and their pizza is really good also. There's nothing on the menu we've had that we didn't like. read more

Fantastic option for lunch or dinner. I come through town several times a year on my way to the farm up from Fort Worth. Texas. The food quality at the buck snort in Harlan is comparable to the food I love at home, only about half the price. Try the "Grunt Snort Wheeze" for a spicy burger with brisket and an egg on it. An amazing restaurant ran by an amazing staff! They have a variety of choices for burgers and pizza! The staff is very friendly and fun to get a long with. They have excellent choices in drinks. I really liked the unique names they have for everything. They also sell cute little gifts as well. The decoration is amazing! 10/10! Definitely try this place out if you are new to Iowa! read more

Food was ok. Service was just ok. Nothing special. I was hungry and this was close to the hotel and nothing else was open at the time.

Slow service. Food cold. Food not delivered as ordered. Ordered food at 7:15 pm. Food was brought out at 7:45 pm. Close at 8:00 pm. No one else in there. Went to refill my fountain drink and soda sprayed all over my cup and coat I was wearing - they had already removed all the nozzles from the fountain drink machine. Questioned worker about that and was told by her and Manager they close at 8:00 pm. Workers were more concerned about going home than serving their customers still trying to enjoy their meal! First time ever in my life I was not able to finish my meal I ordered plenty time ahead of closing time!!! Wow!!! Had heard complaints about this so called restaurant before giving them a chance!!!
