2019 update - things have gone downhill from a high point about 2 years ago. Visited on a quiet Tuesday night and it took 1hr 20 mins for 4 main courses to all arrive. Not acceptable and no forewarning at the till. Felt like Gordon Ramsay was hiding somewhere about to pop out.... Valiant front of house staff let down by, presumably, ineptitude and chaos in the kitchen. Around us one table of 8 diners had been waiting an hour plus to be served only to send back the 2 dishes which did arrive. Another table had been waiting for 60 mins plus for four starters and four mains. Our food was edible if slightly over done - but really nothing special and really not worth the wait, especially bearing in mind that our 4 mains were served staggered over a good 15 mins - long enough for me to have finished eating while the last member of our party was still waiting to be served. As things stand I can only recommend you avoid this place - I won't be back for a long time. read more

The Brockley Jack is a relatively traditional pub, serving up predominantly English food accompanied by real ale and the odd lager. It's a large building, with the Brockley Jack Theatre on one side and a garden out at the back. There are regular pub quizzes and the staff are really friendly and competent. I think the main strengths of the Jack are its dependable food - more so than the pricier Jam Circus down the road - and good value of both food and drink (bangers and mash can be had for around £6 and a pint of Greene King IPA costs just £2.40). However, this dependability is also their downfall, with a relatively mainstream drinks range (IPA, Abbots, Magners, 1664, Peroni etc.) that, as it appears to be set by Greene King centrally rather than local demand, hardly changed at all over the three years I was in the area. Last orders for food are at 9pm (compared to 10pm at the Jam Circus), drink at 11pm (midnight on weekdays and 1am on weekends at the Jam) and the pub doesn't tend to host live music or play background music. So, if you simply want to enjoy dependable, good value English food and drink served by friendly competent bar staff, you should like the Jack. If however you fancy a slightly more dynamic pub experience with music, a more varied and changing drinks menu, quirkier interior and later opening times, you're likely to prefer the Jam Circus down the road. read more

Another Green King. It's glaringly obvious its a chain. A mix of traditional pub furniture upholster-ed in bold floral patterns. Ales and mock vintage wall paper. Everything you expect from a GK pub, good range of beers, wines spirits at competitive prices with offers here and there. The food, standard and pleasant. Not a great deal for the vegetarian amongst you, but you can never have too many veggie burgers can you. Ugg. The thing that sets this pub out from its trendier and more expensive rivals down the road is the little ameture theatre attached. A cute little venue is a lovely fringe theatre featuring class plays, readings and even a bit of Musical Theatre. I think they do a cabaret thing on a Sunday. The pub is probably an attachment onto the theatre more than the other way around. read more

The Brockley Jack is a spacious local pub serving the Brockley/Crofton Park area. It is also a local theatre providing quality fringe performances in a space at the back of the pub. It is traditional without being stuffy and has huge front windows thus giving it a bright and airy feel. There are plenty of quiet corners to sit in and it isn't too busy. read more

The theatre part of this is actually separate, though since the new owners took over they're trying to make the two parts more coherent and work better with each other. The Jack has had a facelift recently and is actually now a really nice pub to sit in of an afternoon. there's a giant whalebone on the wall, reasonable beer, comfy leather sofas, acres of space and an outdoor area to dump the kids (or smoke a cigarette). Food is pretty average to be honest, I had high hopes but you can't really get too fussy in this area of london. I would eat there again, but I wouldn't take anyone I wanted to impress. Dropped in the Brockley jack the other night as part of a pub bar crawl. My first visit and quite impressed. The food was cheap enough and actually not too bad. Good wine list and drinks offer. The best part was the staff! Very helpful and funny. I think the guy may have been the owner and then there was Lynn - good team!! Would definitely visit again. read more

This is a pub/theatre and they merge the two very well. Drink prices are average, and the vibe is very friendly. By far the best and most recognised pub in that area, and after a night there, I knew why. read more

Have been to the Jack on numerous occasions and it has always been welcoming to our family, that is until recently. We arrived at 18.25 to have a meal but was told as children have to be out by 19:00 we won't have time to serve you, so sorry you can't eat. I am the first person who thinks pubs should be for adults only after a certain time, but seven o'clock is, in my opinion, a bit early considering I don't finish work until six in the evening. Also my children are 16 & 13, so are not going to be running around or being a nuisance to anyone. We have been eating before when families have arrived after 7pm with toddlers in tow and have been served we are not regulars were they? Double standards? read more

The Brockley Jack has a great atmosphere. Really friendly and polite staff who defiantly make you feel welcome. One downfall is that there is a lack of vegetarian friendly mains on the menu (I realise that it is an English Pub etc.) but I would love to see a few more veggie options please! Also, as it is quite a popular venue and has the theatre on one side of the building, sometimes you will have to wait a long time for your food as theatre goers are served. This can be quite annoying when you are just popping in for a quick meal. Besides this, I would really recommend this as the best pub in Brockley for families and couples. read more

What a differance now the chavs and the pool table have gone, at last a great pub with a nice theatre and nicely refurbished.
