I called in to The Brink with some friends, who also happen to be Yelpers, last weekend for a quick couple of pints as we'd heard it was relatively new and wanted to check it out.
The Brink itself is a basement "micro pub", as it describes itself. Down a few short steps off Bridge Street and you're in.
On first impressions, the interior here looks more like what you would expect from a newly renovated city centre flat which is trying to squeeze the maximum rent from its tenants. White walls, unvarnished pine tables, lots of little halogen lamps recessed into the ceiling. Unfortunately this makes for a somewhat bland atmosphere, one which I think would have been more appropriate if we'd been in an upmarket bistro or wine bar. That said, when they dimmed the lighting, it felt less sterile so that was good.
They have a good range of beer, though. Several choices on tap, of which I went for the Stocky Oatmeal Stout (Thirst Class Ale), Autumn Orchard Medium Cider (Red Bank Cider) and Peel Summit (Rammy Craft). All delicious, and reasonably priced for a pint to boot.
I should also mention that as well as the usual crisps to snack on, The Brink has some more varied options such as Manchester Eggs. (If you've never had one before, you're missing out!) Good for when you want something a bit more substantial than a bag of crisps but you're not quite in the mood for heading off for larger fare.
The staff were nice and friendly, and knowledgeable about their beers, so definitely ask them if you're unsure of what to go for.
Not a bad little bar. With time, hopefully it'll become a city centre stalwart I'll be frequenting more regularly. read more
