The food was terrible ( fish)and we both got sick. The clam chowder was worse than canned.

The course is decent and a fun layout, but they overbook it with the tee times spaced 9 minutes apart. That might work for the pros, but for the weekend hackers like me that come to public courses, it just leads to unbearable backups on tee boxes. If they could learn to manage their tee sheet better, this would be one of the better courses in Madison, but a 5.5 hour round makes it lose its appeal. read more

What a wonderful patio, and what a waste. Bartender was inattentive and glasses had hard water spotting which made them look dirty. Staff all over complaining about slow Saturday afternoon. No drink specials, no happy hour, no customers... Management non-existent??? Huh read more

Good course in decent condition. Priced about right for summer golf. Pace of play was excellent and staff was efficient and courteous all over the course. Be prepared for some NOISE during your round as the airport is near and you will hear jets overhead during your round. We would play this course again another time. read more

Stopped here for a little golf while on vacation. 9-holes w/ cart during peak hours on a weekend was only $27, very inexpensive I thought! Practice area was basic but nice. Range looked fine and the range balls were some of the better I've seen around. $5 for a small bucket. Greens, tees and fairways were slightly, if it all, above average. The dirt cart pathways left a coating of dust on my glasses, skin, bag and clubs by the end of my round, didn't care for that and is the reason why I gave a 4/5, wish they were paved! Beverage cart was basic, but inexpensive. No wine. Inside bar had good, inexpensive food. I hear the fish fry's are good. Overall, a pretty good course with cheap green fees. Will certainly be back, though they need to pave the cart pathways.... read more

This is a serviceable course in the middle of Madison. You're right by the airport, so you'll see all sorts of interesting things - low flying planes taking off or landing, apache helicopters doing their thing, and jet fighters doing their routes. While that's not golfing, it's pretty interesting to check out during your "good walk gone bad". The course itself is nice. None of the holes stand out as memory-makers, but there's some character along the way and some decisions to be made. There's some water on the course, but only really a threat on a couple holes (#1 and #9, notably). The rest appears to be for show - like behind the green or to the side of the green. Most folks aren't going to put one in the drink there, but I'm sure it happens. As a west-sider, I'm not fond of the drive to a course that is so close to me. Getting through or around Madison and the lakes isn't always easy, so timing is key. Plan your tee times accordingly, especially if you're golfing during the week. Getting in or out around rush hour will take longer. The Bridges will run specials, so check those out before you head out. A round can be had, especially in the spring or fall, for around $25. It's not a great walking course - the distance between one green and the next tee box can be quite a hike. If you don't mind the extra walking, save money and skip the cart. The course is pretty flat and you won't get wiped out by hills. It will take longer to walk, but on a quiet day that can be pretty nice. read more

Stopped in to play a quick nine holes on my way thru town. Very pleasantly surprised at the conditions of the course (excellent) considering it was mid summer and pushing 100 all week. The course is surprisingly challenging due to the narrow fairways and lots of bordering water - hit straight shots or die, I'd play here again if I ever pass through Madison again. Pretty good place to play. Good practice areas and the course is well laid out for high handicap players. For me, I played from the back tees and didn't have to use my driver. The greens were fair and the fairways are wide open. We just stopped in for 9 holes on our way back from Minneapolis to Chicago. We would definitely recommend it to folks we know. read more

Great layout, very nice bar/restaurant and good people. The layout is fair and wisely not long. IMHO any idiot can make a course tough by making it long. Bridges is within the ability of most golfers and yet is challenging enought for, say, a college team (that I recently watched). My only criticism is that it is not an easy course to walk with long distances between holes. I think courses should be walked. read more

Fun, cheap, challenging course. It is my favorite in Madison for the price. Not sure why anybody would pay $16 to walk 9 at a city course when you can do the same here. It's a unique course, not links style but has plenty of marsh/ native grass. If you hit an errant tee shot you will be punished. Often times you will see cool wildlife. Excellent course. The person below grading it poorly obviously doesn't know much about golf, even if he did manage several courses. Just shows you that people will say almost anything. As far as his complaint about $10 buckets? They offer a $5 bucket and a $10. This guys obviously an idiot. This course isn't for the faint of heart. It is difficult from the back tees as the rating and slope show. It is nicely priced and if you go during the week days it is inexpensive, especially if you are a senior. The green are good and almost always in above average shape. There is trouble on both sides of most fairways. The good part is that most of the fairways are bordered by red stakes which mean you get the distance and don't have to re hit from the tee. The club house is open and spacious. I'd rate it an 8.5. Overall an outstanding facility. Is it a Private Course? No but it is an outstanding public course. read more

The Bridges is a fantastic, affordable, well-maintained public course in Madison. I've played many of the public courses in the area and this is by far my favorite "cheap" course. My husband and I walked 18 holes and it was $27 pp on a weekday. The greens were in great shape, the course challenging and nicely laid out, and the staff was friendly. The only annoyance is that it's close to the airport so you can hear planes land and take off, which can get quite loud. Definitely better than Odana or Yahara Hills if you're looking for a good place to swing the clubs on the cheap in Madison. read more

The Bridges has become my default golf course for meeting up with friends and getting in 18. It is a city-owned course on the northeast side of Madison, south of the airport. Most of the course is situated amidst low-lying wetlands, while on the back nine a couple of holes rise up on a ridge along Anderson Avenue. It is an fairly easy course to walk, except that the proximity to water does mean a good amount of mosquitoes. The recent rains led to a lot of flooding on the course, but I played last weekend and much of the course is back in playable condition. I especially like the Bridges since the course can either reward you or punish you, but there always seems to be a bit of both. Other courses are either too hard or too easy (mostly too hard) but the Bridges is the kind of course where after being embarrassed on a deceptively difficult par three you find yourself in position to birdie a par four that initially looked impossible. It's enough of a challenge to keep you coming back without demoralizing you, and this makes it about the most fun of the courses in the area. The major downside to the Bridges is the proximity to the airport. Most of the course is right on the flight path for landing jets, and this is distracting at first. Once you've played a round or two you learn to time your drives or putts, and Dane County Regional isn't exactly O'Hare. Another potential problem is that this course can and will eat a lot of balls if like me you tend toward inaccuracy. The vegetation in the O.B. areas is thick reedy wetland stuff, so just go ahead and consider that ball lost. Lastly, the course can get very crowded and play tends to slow. However, since I prefer to walk this usually works in my favor. For some these drawbacks are a deal-breaker, but given the crowds on any given weekend I have to assume that this is a minority opinion. The price is very reasonable - from $22 to $37 walking 18 depending on the time. There is a twilight special where after 6:00 PM you can golf as much as you would like for $10. The only problem with this is that a lot of people get in line for this and the rate of play is pretty slow. The bar and grill in the clubhouse is one of my favorites of the city-owned courses. The bar is well stocked and they usually have a couple of decent taps. The last time I was there I enjoyed the new Capital Prairie Gold from a frosty mug. You can always count on getting a can of Capital out on the course as well. The menu is surprisingly broad and well-made. The wraps are a satisfying end to the round, as are the sandwiches and the appetizers. You can call in an order as you make the turn and it will be ready at the clubhouse, which is perfect for when only one or two of the foursome are eating. Several of my friends have attended banquets or luncheons held here and have said these are well done too. I think that top to bottom, the Bridges has about the best layout of the city-owned courses and is my personal favorite. read more

I love the idea of this golf course. Many of the holes are challenging due to narrow fairways and rough with unplayable areas of dense, overgrown vegetation. Maintenance could be better. The pro-shop has an excellent collection of clothes, but the restaurant/bar are mediocre (both food and service). I golf here occasionally because it's fun and a good value, but there are better in town. read more

Called 3 weeks in advance (twice!!!) to reserve a tee time for foot golf. Show up the day of for a family get together and they tell us foot golf doesn't start for another month! How are your employees not well trained enough to read a calendar? Not just one but TWO employees. Luckily we went to Vitense on the west side they are much better - that is the competition Bridges should be worried about. read more

Great golf course if you don't hit it off course! Tall overgrown grass makes finding any bad shot impossible! LOL Course was very well cared for in my opinion for a public course. Starter guy was very friendly and helpful. Rented clubs that were in very fair condition, but i'm a hacker anyway so not really a big thing. The beer girl on the course was one of the best I have ever come across. She was always zipping around and we had plenty of drinks and snacks. Now the beautiful bar at the club house is totally different. Don't be fooled on how nice it looks. The two ladies behind the bar may get to you when they feel like it. Just horrible service. I had to get up from my table and go to the bar that was empty. Even the guy next to me complained. I was going to have a beer and try the food on the menu with my son but was so turned off that no one came to our table (right in front of the bar so they saw me) I just ordered a lemonade for my son and told the girl no i'm not going to order because your service is just horrible. Not trying to get anyone fired, but you might want to train your staff on how to take care of customers. read more

The condition of this "golf course" was absolutely disgusting today. The fact that it is the middle of September should have no bearing on said conditions. The fairways looked like the rough of your average small town golf course, and the greens looked the same. The "cart paths" were awful! Imagine driving a geo metro through the Sonoran desert. Bunkers full of water, greens that look like rough, and they still manage to charge full price. If I could give less than one star, I would! read more

The pro shop guy rushed me out to the 10th tee without even being able to putt and chip, there was a very slow threesome ahead of me, had to do a lot if waiting. Carts everywhere, tee boxes were a mess, its right by the airport, so airplanes constantly flying over head. Dead animals in the fairway, greens covered in ballmarks, tons of divots in the fairway, and players pulling their carts right up to the green. Got charged $10.00 for a very small bucket one day to hit off their terrible turf of a driving range, it was pretty much hardpan, went there because it is close to my house, will never go there again! read more

I've loved seeing the way the course has improved over the past two years. This is by far my favorite place to golf because it's challenging but not impossible. I love the staff and ever time I come here, something new has improved. It's so beautiful and the grass looks like suede. I'm a big fan and I will keep coming here for years to come! read more

The course maintenance has really gone downhill over the last couple of years. The tee boxes are very chewed up and the greens, while a little better than the tee boxes, the entire course could really use a good grounds keeper. This would be one of the best courses in the state if it wasn't for all the ambient noise on at least half the holes. The airport is 1/2 mile away, and it's along side a highway. Besides that, it's a great layout, challenging and typically in good shape. read more

I just got done golfing here this place was my favorite so far for a local 18 with a cart. It was like 30 bucks for 18 with a cart. You can see a lot of the pins which I like. They have a panflet explaining to do for each hole. Very suclueded for being in town. Nice staff, wasn't rushed at all. Can loose a few balls if don't hit safe. Easy to find next hole. They also have the foot golf which i didn't do but would be cool. read more

This place is a dump. They don't know how to take care of the greens and it was way overpriced. We went yesterday because we live nearby and didn't want to spend an hour driving to hit balls on a driving range. It was $10 for a bucket of balls. I have managed 5 different golf courses in my life and the most I ever charged was $2. I see now why others have posted bad statements about the course. read more
