I'm not sure who's in charge of hiring/training the staff at the counter in this gas station, but they are consistently the absolute rudest & most unpleasant people I've have the displeasure of giving my money to in west Asheville... and that's sayin a lot in a neighorhood where apparently attitude and eye-rolling is in the training manual! Asheville staple. Even if you just want to be able to tell people you got your beer poured from a gas station, it's worth the cool experience. There is usually a food truck out front selling great food and there is corn hole out back. The local crowd is great as well. Good spot for a smoke and its dog friendly as well. If you're lucky you can catch someone playing chess to brush up on your game or run into some people you make good friends with. You never know what will happen at the brew pump but beat ever it is, it won't be boring as long as your open to talking with those around you. Coolest gas station around. I know this last weekend wasn't a normal thing as there was a festival called "All Go West" going on, but this gas station shut down the parking lot and let us have a dance party! On normal days this gas station still has a great beer selection, even some good beers on tap. They also have a chill area to hang out at out back. Some pretty good food trucks on top of all that. I'll certainly be back and no, I don't always expect a dance party, lol! read more

Before visiting North Carolina recently, if you had told me about a bar at at a gas station, I would have simply assumed that you meant they'd supply you with a stealthy brown sack along with your bottle or can. Imagine my pleasant surprise to see this beer garden located on the side of a gas station. I discovered this place while locating El Kim Chi, the Mexican-Korean fusion food truck that parks there a couple times a week. As others have noted, there are about eight taps all priced at $4 with a couple taps available for $3. During my visit there were two $3 specials: New Belgium from right in Asheville and Utica Club (UC Pilsner, as they called it), which is brewed about an hour from me in beautiful upstate NY. Oh the dilemma, do you go for what's local to where to you or local to where you're from? Well, whichever you choose, don't take too long to decide because the kim chi has a real kick to it, so you'll want something to relieve the burn in your mouth. I liked how the gravel-filled area is dog friendly and how the pint classes had designs from nearby breweries. It's a classy touch that's a step up from the unbranded shaker glass. I've been to the Brew Pump a few times and have enjoyed it. I think it's biggest strength is the outdoor, dog friendly section which is great when it's warm enough. The inside is fine but not particularly cozy. They do have a TV for watching games which I really like. The service is friendly and timely. I really wish you could buy alcohol from the convenient store (i.e. a six pack) and drink it there. But that's not an option. Prices are very reasonable and they usually have a special that is on sale. read more

Such an interesting place. Located inside of a gas station in West Asheville is a cute little bar with an outdoor area for everyone to enjoy. Dog friendly, kid friendly, people friendly, there is not a type of friendly this place doesn't have. Even the staff is super friendly! They will have about 6 or 7 beers on tap of which one, will be on special. I have been here a few times and each time I have been, the beer selection is different. Inside of the gas station also has a large beer selection and although overpriced, it is close to home and quick to maneuver. The best part about this place is the large outdoor area where dogs are allowed to roam free, off leash (as long as it is before 8 PM) and the humans can congregate at a picnic table or play some cornhole. Hungry? There is usually one of Asheville's fine food trucks parked out in front of the establishment or, just pop inside of the gas station and grab a quick snack. It is great to enjoy a brew and some fresh air in this place! Never overcrowded and always a pleasant experience. read more

Such a cool place! My close friend lives close to here and it is her to-go place. She wanted to take me and I was pleasantly surprised. It's literally a gas station with a bar. Need gas? You can get it. Want to grab a draft beer? Done. Hungry? Grab a snack or go to the food truck that is most likely there at night. There is an outside area with a window to order if you don't want to go in and they serve craft beers with several options also in cans and bottles. If you've never been, you need to go. read more

Wow! Totally unexpected! The Brew Pump is actually located in the convenience store portion of a gas station! Only in Asheville folks! Seven beers on tap at any time - and the prices are great - each pint I got were only $4 and some were on special for $3. A bar and tables inside and a really spacious outdoor section/beer garden. Not to mention a really awesome selection of beer/six packs to go. Generally, there's a good food truck parked out front. Dog and kid friendly. Nice mix of people from all walks of life. One of my favorite places to stop when traveling to and through Asheville. Very unique business. A gas station bar with accompanying food trucks and a large beer garden. This is the part that makes it great when the weather is nice. Especially great when traveling with the kids and dog. What may seem like your average gas station and convenience store is actually one of Asheville's most pleasant beer gardens. Come in to the brew pump and order yourself one of the many fantastic local brews they have on draft and walk through the side door to find yourself nestled in a well groomed back yard. Nestle in to one of the giant hard wood adirondack chairs and relax. There's also a swinging bench! Come here, take some time for you. You deserve a chance to feel the warm sun or cool moonlight on your face while you breathe in the fresh air. If sitting isn't your thing then find a friend and enjoy the multiple corn hole sets. What's more satisfying than throwing a bean bag into a hole on a slanted piece of wood? That's right, nothing! Most weekends you're likely to find some of Asheville's best food trucks parked in the lot here. Two favorites of mine, Doc Brown's BBQ and El Kimchi are both regularly present. I'm looking forward to the next time I am showing a friend around Asheville, this spot is a real hidden gem that offers very pleasant surprises. read more

I love the Brew Pump. What? You needed more? Well, for starters there are multiple draft beers all the time. There is usually a rotating cider as well, which is what I always go for. They have food trucks every night of the week. There's a big outdoor space to hang out and eat your food. There's a nice indoor area too. The staff is friendly and always has good working knowledge of the beers that they have on tap at any given time. They sometimes close down the gas station and have dance parties among the pumps. I cannot physically insert my foot far enough into my mouth. I was an ignorant, close-minded fool. I have seen the light at The Brew Pump! It's warm and red, emanating from that giant 'Laundromat' sign still affixed to the back of the building. [But no, we don't wash & fold here.] Do you like cornhole? Join us. Got a dog who's socially comfortable, some poo bags and a leash (for after 8pm?) Bring 'em. Food trucks? A different choice parked out front every night! Do you enjoy a variety of delicious beer & cider on tap? How 'bout some bearded men, sweet gals and friendly strangers dressed in their casual comfiest? Who doesn't?! GET HERE. Ahh The Brew Pump, one of my favorite places now in West Asheville! This started out as just a gas station with a fantastic selection of craft beers from local/regional breweries...and beyond! Fuel for your car...and a fun staff that LOVE to joke around. They definitely keep the customers coming back. Did I mention the clean bathrooms? *What's this?* The gas station is adding on a BAR? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? (slow motion) Yes "The Brew Pump" is the bar section of this handy-dandy gas station. I've never seen this before so I was very excited to have it (esp. on my side of town). Admittedly, I wasn't sure how it was going to go over and I would get my usuals then split. That was until, I stepped through the new magical door in the back. They have a large, fenced-in yard with picnic tables, swings, inviting strung lights, k-9 friendly, awesome metal heaters, corn hole-everyone gets in on the action! AND they have food trucks parked on the gas station side, so you take a walk over, put in your order and off to the backyard you go to chat, drink & have fun while your food cooks. I think it's a genius idea. I've met so many cool people there, there is NO drama associated with the Brew Pump and all sorts of people from young'ns to old'ns...and every personality you can think of in between. I've met a lot of different types of people there and have never had a bad experience. Sometimes I stop by to pick up something random, then decide to see what's happening on the bar side and the staff let's me stash my items & receipt in the cooler so I can enjoy a cold one real quick(ish). The bartenders stay on top of your drinks, come outside, make sure the heater is doing good, always make you laugh & basically keep you happy! There's a couple that will even sing and dance for you...I won't name names. This place is getting more attention as time goes by, it's understandable that a bar built into a gas station isn't your 1st choice...right away. Shoot, I went there ALL the time, and I never even realized the huge back yard with people, tables, dogs & games & such a variety of craft BEER for a couple of months. They even have bands from time to time and just had their 2nd Halloween party, which was a HUGE success. Anyway, very cool idea...and the food trucks are AWESOME-tacos, bbq, thai, pizza & my fav-the gourmet grilled cheese truck! If I HAD to say something that I would change it would be the times & more promotional events happening in the back yard (but not too many, there's great convo to be had out there). The bar closes down with the gas station (depending on the day 10p or 11pm) since the beers on tap are inside, it just kind of HAS to be that way. BUT, it does help if you're trying to not stay up too late or spend more money than you wanted. :-) read more

Good selection, I like the outdoor space with tables and chairs, and the countertop area was quite inviting! Great place to chill in the nice evenings in Asheville. Great beer choices, good food trucks, corn hole, plenty of tables, and a swing. My drawback is that smoking is allowed. Cigg butts all over the ground. Otherwise this place is amazing. I feel like this could be a great place for families to chill too but just not great for kids...unless you think second hand smoke is cool. The well-behaved dogs are off leash and it's a blast to see them enjoying themselves too. read more

One of my favorite locations in West Asheville. It's a little obscure to go to a gas station bar however this isn't a traditional bar. They strictly have beer on tap. Which is nice. The brew pump has a super friendly environment. Kids have plenty room to play, dogs too. The corn hole tournaments can get competitive the more you drink. It's a great place for a day brew. I always find something great on their rotating tap menu. A different food truck is parked outside every night including local favorites like El Kimchi and Melt Your Heart. A great Haywood Road tradition. Always a great selection of brews either on tap or from their super stocked coolers. If you want a relaxed atmosphere and some of the friendliest service this is the place. A wonderful patio for your 4 legged dog or the 2 legged one that brought you here. I have become a regular customer of the Brew Pump however I was there on Sunday with some out of town friends and found the female bartender to be very cold and un friendly!!!! The rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. The bar tender came in with her kids and boyfriend and seemed very upset with her whole situation. I will not come in if she is working in the future. You definitely need to have Adam working more and training bar tenders to be more like him. He is a definite asset for your business!!!!! read more
