Awesome corner of the bar.

I have no idea how I've not written a review for Desoto Lounge yet. I've been here probably close to a hundred times over the years for drinks, food, patio-chillin' and games. This is a great neighborhood bar in West Asheville. It feels very much like that-a neighborhood bar-where every time I walk in, I know at least one other person who is hanging out. The bar is honestly kinda stuffy-feeling and is dark with loud music playing. They always have weird, eclectic artwork hanging out the walls and feels kinda dirty. But that's what I love about it. It has a dive bar vibe with great drinks/beer and even better food. Their brunch is really creative and delicious and you don't have the long wait to get a table which is typical of Asheville brunch spots. They have a Bloody Mary and Mimosa bar on weekends too! Their dinner food is tasty too with snacks and sandwiches such as my favorites, The Cuban served with strawberry jam and the Meatloaf Sandwich. Their portion sizes are perfect and their food options are great for take out too. I've spent many, many hours sitting on their back patio with friends chatting into the wee hours of the morning, while enjoying the open air and cocktails. This is a great spot to be to just have fun, eat food, and chillax.

Sunday mimosa and Bloody Mary bar

Great brunch here! The brunch menu rotates so you always have the opportunity to try something new and delicious. The staff that works here are all very friendly and they have some super talented chefs in the back. I love the Mimosa and bloody Mary bar which allow you to get creative with your own alcohol. They also have a little backyard patio which I believe is dog friendly. This is one of those places that you need a membership for so be prepared to sign in at the door. Periodically they do art shows for local artists and I believe sometimes they have live music as well although I usually just visit on Sundays in the morning for brunch. Something that has surprised me, however, is that small children are allowed to run around the bar. In my experience people under 18 or even 21 are not usually allowed in bars but perhaps this place is an exception because they serve food. If you're looking for a delicious brunch menu at 10:30 AM on a Sunday the De Soto lounge is the place to be. Just don't be that guy that brings their kids.

My favorite brunch spot, great music, fabulous bartenders, delicious food and the best brunch cocktails. Also seems to be a bit of a hidden gem, as it's not usually too busy compared to other west Asheville brunch spots. The huevos rancheros are killer!

Bearded bartender is rude. Very much a smartass. Very insulting, talks about people's appearances. We won't be back.

Great joint. Good beer selection and vibes in West Asheville. Pinball, ping pong, and foosball plus an outdoor patio.

Food is very good but service is sometimes rude. Good never fails but don't always except to meet a smiling face.

I was very excited to have lunch there! Unfortunately, we had an unpleasant service experience and this is on what I'm basing my review. The beer was fine and the environment of the restaurant was good. My husband and I parked nearby and, unfortunately, on the very short walk to the restaurant, our 7 months old puppy got scared from two revving motorcycles. So when we got to the brewery the puppy was shaking ...we sat in a quiet section outside in the corner and the puppy hid under the chair and curled up, still shaking. Our waiter came and was very animated, talking in a very loud voice. There was absolutely nobody else in our section and it was very quiet, there was no reason to shout. I asked him very politely if he could please lower his voice because the puppy is scared already. There were a lot of humane ways in which he could have responded. Instead, he chose a weird response - no, he can't lower his voice, because "there will be a lot of people here, this place fills out, and my loud voice is needed for the customers". What? We would be long gone by then. I didn't understand how this applied to us. Then he proceeded to say that, actually, since there were two recent bite accidents at the restaurant, he's now afraid of dogs and would like us to move "downstairs". I showed him the shaking curled up 7 month old puppy under the chair, who was also on a short leash strapped around my waist, and told him that there was no way he was at any risk of being bitten. Not to mention the puppy was a good distance from him and would t have been able to reach him. So he said ok and we stayed there. This interaction right away left me lose interest in a full lunch, so we looked at the beers. As we were trying to pick, the waiter started telling my husband "Just pick and if you don't like it, piss it on the floor, I'll take it off the bill and give you another! I don't care! I'm not paying! The people whose name is written over there (pointing to the door) are paying". He continued repeating versions of that as we picked beer. At that time I realized there was an odor of marihuana in the air and I believe it came from him as it got stronger when he approached and disappeared when he got away. As he brought our beers, I asked him "what did you say is your name?" He responded, "I didn't give you my name and I wouldn't. It's 2026 and anyone can quickly find anything about you from your name" I was trying to be friendly after our initial spat over the voice but he wasn't having it. He walked away. We finished our beers and fries, got the check and left. On the bill, I saw the name Matthew H. listed The interactions with the waiter left us with a negative overall experience. He was paranoid, erratic and I did not feel comfortable to stay for a full lunch as we had planned. I had originally written a version of this review which lacked all the details and which had stronger wording. There was a complaint about the review (I assume from the restaurant) so I removed it and I'm replacing it with this one which states the facts. This was our experience and I didn't like it.

Being that I was dining alone, I decided to sit at the bar. From a corner of the bar, I had a clear view of the small stage where the band was performing. It seems like so many restaurants, bars and pubs in Asheville have local music, and this place definitely did not disappoint. The food was great. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The eggs were perfectly poached, and the house-made buttermilk biscuit and cheddar stone-ground grits were delicious. The service was the only factor that kept me from giving a 5 star review. When I sat down at the bar, it took awhile for someone to greet me and take my order. After my order was taken, I waited a long time for the food. Overall, if you're looking for good food, a fun environment, and great live music, I would definitely suggest visiting Jack of the Wood in Asheville. Cheers

Top notch food that you'll be very satisfied with and a great stage with some of the best opportunities to catch some amazing performances in a small venue around. As a plus, both the architecture and the interior design and decoration is supper fun as well. I liked this place so much I bought a tea shirt on my first visit. Will definitely be back again whenever I am in the Asheville area again.
