The Breakers Arcade is the perfect afternoon stop if you're looking to spend a little time out of the sun and find some cheap entertainment. Their arcade selection was great for a small beach town and I found myself taking long walks into the town center and always stopping by for a game of pinball (they've got Adam's Family pinball for $.50/game) or air hockey. Their selection also includes some ticket winning games so adults and kids can enjoy the fun. If you're looking for the old school "ski game" or to dual a friend in guitar hero, look no further. They also have several pool tables and skee ball. The Breakers also has THE BEST ice cream I had on the beach. TONS of different flavors although nothing "over the top", very nice employees and great prices (much better then the creamery in town on all of the above!) You can park for free and they have free bathrooms. This might not seem like a big deal to most, but if you're visiting OIB for a day trip, this is a great fact to log. The Pier/arcade next door charges you $1 to "use the bathroom" (since you have to pay to go out to the pier). I would definitely recommend The Breakers Arcade if you're looking for an afternoon activity or some delicious ice cream. read more

Bottom line: All in all, The Breakers may not be a huge arcade type attraction but what they do have is fun and quality here in OIB. I enjoyed the arcade/pinball area a lot (what's the beach without some skeeball?!?) and the ice cream was very tasty, at a decent price. Averaging 3.5 stars for the arcade side and the 4.5 star ice cream taste, I'm going with 4 stars. I am a fan! The Deets: After seeing Rose L.'s review of The Breakers, I knew this place had to be a stop on this year's OIB trip. I love me some arcade fun and always an ice cream fan, so this place looked like a no-brainer to try out. As you go in from the street side, you encounter the ice cream shop part of it first and as you go back, you encounter the arcade side. While the arcade itself is not spacious huge like ones in Myrtle Beach, it definitely has enough games and fun to enjoy yourself while in OIB. I tried out 2-3 of the different pinball machines and forgot how much I enjoyed (read: get sucked into) a good pinball game. Great fun! Then came skeeball, the absolute best beach arcade game ever of course! I got my groove back on skeeball after becoming a bit rusty, and even between Chris M. and I had a decent amount of tickets by the end of our skeeball frenzy. We donated our stash to a lucky kid looking like he needed to add to his total tickets, hope he won something great! The Breakers also has your classic video games, quarters "scooting" machines where you put in one carefully placed quarter to try to push more out like a "payoff'' type win, other arcade favorites. In all that was a great night of playing games in a well lit and clean atmosphere. Due to it being a small selection, however a fun selection of games, I'd say the arcade is a 3.5 star one. Back up to the front, we had to indulge in that ice cream...and glad we did. They served up Hershey brand ice cream, and I have to say it tastes better than a lot of places that tout themselves as "homemade" or "homestyle." Creamy and full of flavor, I was impressed with my Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough selection. My ice cream was 4.5 stars of flavor and refreshment. read more

The good: the Super Sub my wife and I split was very good. Well toasted, good dressing, and just a good sandwich. Pretty decent size and the price seemed fair. The bad: our girls both got hot dogs which were....not good. Dried up and wrinkly, and they're "just" hot dogs; pretty hard to screw up. The fries were overcooked and "hard" -- no softness to them. The place was broken down everywhere, numerous flies flying around, and needed fresh paint everywhere you looked. The employees were very apathetic and just mailing it in. For our order (toasted sub, french fries, & 2 hot dogs) it took 15+ minutes with 4 people ahead of us when we walked in. The men's restroom is filthy and doesn't even have a soap dispenser. We took are grandkids there on 4/18/2022. Some of the games were malfunctioning. When it was time to redeem tickets we found that there were few items left to get. Prizes need to be restocked. We spoke to a snack bar employee who told us there was no arcade employees working. She said she spoke to a manager or owner via phone and relayed the issues. He or she never responded. BLUF: Best ice cream in the area. Good staff. Best choices. We walked in after a Friday concert and thought it would be slammed but no one was there. Weird, cuz it was great. This little pizza joint on the corner of 1st Street is the Bomb! We were craving some pizza after eating rich seafood the past couple of days. We got Greek salad to split and the owner brought it out on 2 large plates! The pizza was ready very quickly too! Very good- we got the pepperoni. Needless to say, since they only have the 16" we're having pizza tomorrow night too! We ended up getting a scoop of cappuccino ice cream and a scoop of Almond Joy. So good. They are getting 2 stars only because they sell Hershey ice cream and it happens to be delicious, but the service is horrible and the staff is rude .. I have been coming here for 12 summers and this is the first time the boy band wanna be server told me he wouldn't put sprinkles on my cone .... seriously ??? He said I will give u a cup and u can dip it in .. well it was awfully annoying but I said ok .. he returned with the cup the size of a child's teacup ... u can't dip.... so I asked for a larger cup and he said u can just hold it over the garbage and sprinkle or on top I had to argue with him to have him give me a larger cup so I can dip..... what a horrible experience I wonder if the kid is the owners son because in my opinion he should be fired but he must be related to someone to have that attitude and not be fired...I hope the owner decides to read this and fix the issue because seriously why spend ur Money here when there is a homemade ice cream parlor across the street ! read more

I'd give it 0 stars if I could. Normally not the type to review a company even after a bad experience but this can't go unheard. I'm absolutely appalled. Yesterday we went for ice cream. The chick working the register was horrible at math and manners. Gave her a 20 when it came to 11.42. She walked away to get more ones for change. They had none. So my dad does the common courtesy of giving her a 5 and 7 ones. She handed him 2 pennies and tried keeping the 20. He corrects her by saying he needs the 20 and some change. So she gave him the 20 and 2 pennies again. She then had to be told how to do math. But whatever, not that big of a deal.. till she gives him the correct change and then gives a snotty look and doesn't wish us a good day or say thanks for the help. Again, no big deal. Wasn't gonna review the place over that. Till today.. Today I took my 4 yr old in there just to use the bathroom. Mind you, there should be no expectation of privacy while using it. No lock & just a shower curtain dividing your toilet from the one next to you. I couldn't get out of there quick enough. The bathroom smelt like a bucket of chum that had been baking in the summer sun for about a week. I could hear the diseases growing rampant on the walls. Hovering is a must. And I was seriously afraid to wash my hands afterwards. Never have I felt like washing my hands would make me dirtier, till I was in that predicament. I seriously do not understand why they do not just use a port-a-pot rental company. Portapots are much more sanitary. I should also add that we've been to this place many times in the years past. Every time it's been a rude teenager that's been working the cash register. The manager must have the attitude of not caring who works for them, just because they'll have new customers every week. Don't go here. They don't deserve your money. The kids down the road are selling homemade lemonade and cupcakes. Take your money there. read more

So I've been coming here since the new management took over and my God. What a night and day difference then the previous crappy owners. Their pizza is world class. And oh duh the Hersheys ice cream is great too. But now this place is on the ups. Thank God these new owners took over. They are really turning this place around. Linda and Taci the owners, friendly hard working and very welcoming, making you feel like home. The food, the most amazing food ever, can't pick one, because everything so darn delicious. These people are SO welcoming. We got to ocean isle last night from Ohio. We were tired, hungry and didn't know anything about this area. We walked to this little arcade and ordered some food. It was late and we ordered pizza. They made us FRESH pizza. We got fries, nachos and lemonade. Delicious! They constantly checked on us. They are such sweet people. I highly recommend them to send your teens to since it seems like a popular hot spot for the youngins. It's about a two minute stroll from the ocean isle inn to here. read more

My siblings, some friends and I went here for some ice cream to escape the rain. The ice cream was pretty good the only issue is the guy at the register short changed all of us by exactly $1- not sure if it was on accident or on purpose but when we brought it up the guy didn't acknowledge our complaint.
