Who goes to a bar in their wedding dress?!?! I DOOOOOO! Couldn't have imagined a better late night after party to spend with friends after our wedding reception!

Meghan S.

The greatest place in lakeland to get late night drinks and appetizers!!! Also, I do have to say they make one of the best espresso martinis I've had. It's always made perfectly. And if you love beer, there's plenty to choose from. This will always be my husband and Is favorite brass tap and date night spot!

Beer, beer and more beer! ...and a shot or two!

The servers are great and I enjoyed interacting with them. They were pleasant and easy going...loved them! I started with and Avalanche Amber Ale. Clean, crisp and so refreshing I had four! The Brussels were delicious and perfectly cooked. Still crisp, but just soft enough to be pleasant and easy to eat. The flatbread...I thought it was very well done just wished the had been more of the reduction to add that extra zing in every bite. All in all...for a tap house, it was pleasant and the bar food was a step up from most of the tap houses we visit. I can not wait to return!

Great experience. Went there for drinks and ( happy hour) dinner. Our server, Amber, was extremely knowledgeable about the individual beers, drinks, etc--and there were a lot. She was professional, friendly and attentive.. We ordered pretzel bites with a cheese dip that was very tasty ( photo failed). The flatbread pizza was pretty big for an appetizer, fresh and flavorful. Our chicken tacos were also fresh and very good. Almost one week later we cannot recall our specific drink choices, but they were excellent. My sangria was light and refreshing, and my husband's Belgian dark beer was smooth and easy to drink. Prices were good. Fun atmosphere. Trivia was going on, and although we didn't formally participate, we enjoyed it. Will definitely return when in the Lakeland area.

I'll be honest, this caught my eye via an ad on Instagram promoting their $5 Thursday nacho night (with a drink). It sounded like a lark, so I told my husband and he was all for it. It is literally a mile or two from our 'hood and on the edge of the Lakeside Village; there was no parking issues, even with two hotels right there. Yes! It is an adult bar, no bones about it. Long bar (shotgun style) with stools, high tops, and an elevated booth with table and stools across from the bar. Clean and friendly. Patio outside. Music playing, sports on the screens, all except one by us that was playing an old Pirates of the Caribbean movie. This isn't a kids place (but people still brought little kids here). They serve alcohol, wine, and beer in bottles, cans and draft. Wow, what a selection of draft beer! We were so excited that they had a selection from Bold City Brewery in Jacksonville FL, our home town. (Try Duke's Cold Nose Brown Ale, it's so delicious!) They had a really cool menu of fun pub food, but we really wanted those $5 nachos. Hubby had the beef, I had the chicken. They came out quick with sour cream and salsa on the side. Were they gourmet? Nah. Were they good? Heck yeah! They were exactly what we expected and tasted great. They were also a lot bigger than we thought they'd be. I swear I read something online that said they were "personal sized nachos" which was the reason we ordered two. Hah! They were big enough to split. We had a second round, this time hubby tried a Brown Sugar Brown Cow Beer (good) and I tried a Warhead Black Cherry which came in a snifter glass. That was delicious. I loved that they had such a variety on tap. We could have kept trying more but it was Thursday and we were driving, so had to stop. This is definitely a fun little place for a date or a meet-up with friends. Check out their website, they seem to have a lot of things going on during the week.

We enjoyed a nice weekday happy hour. Great sangria. Great appetizers. The ambiance was chill and the food was good. The nachos were tasty! The Brussel sprouts were super good!

Loved this place so much! We came in on a Friday night, and it was busy, but slow enough for us to not have any issues finding a table. We sat at the bar and the bar tenders were very attentive to us. Our drinks came out so fast! The nachos were so good!! I don't normally do white queso, but it was so good on the nachos ! I also ordered a small Cesar salad and it was a huge serving! Loved this place and the live music started at 8 on the dot !

Discusting nachos that must have been microwaved. Would NEVER EVER EVER recommend.

So let me say that I have had better and I would definitely not go out of my way to come to this place. I was in the area, staying at a hotel that was walking distance away, so it made it convenient to go to. I did come here three times, as to make sure that I would have a very fair review. I had food on two of the three nights. I arrived on a Monday evening and the place was dead. I was able to sit at the bar and the bartender was friendly. They do have a wide selection of brews which is what attracted me to it. While I was there I ordered my beer and food. I can say for bar food, which was decent and that was a stretch. On Tuesday I went back had a beer and was greeted by the same bartender. While I was there they had trivia that was ongoing. To me, this is absolutely one of the worst ideas they can bring into a bar. For starters, I guess they do not know there is such a thing as Google to get ALL your answers correct. As I looked around, I did not see that many people wrapped up with the game, yet that trivia guy was non stop ongoing. I would have stayed longer, but the non-stop talking fro the trivia guy and the worst music selection ever caused me to leave early. On Wednesday I got there toward the end of happy hour. The bar was slammed so I was not able to sit at the bar so I sat at a table. It took the waitress a few minutes to come over to us, to me that was not the end of the world. To be fair, I have not dealt with the waitress before as I get ready to talk about her. With that said, she came over was incredibly not happy, refused to talk, walked around with a don't talk to me type of face. Come to find out while I was there, they ran out of the beer I was drinking, so that was another strike against them. I guess they don't check kegs. I did order food, which I was unable to finish. The food was beyond tasteless, not hot, and seemed like it was cooked in a microwave. I ended up not even eating all of it. Yet, the server would not interact for us to have a dialogue with our food. Oh and to add to it, guess who came back?????? The trivia guy AGAIN. Now can I mention I have been in bars and restaurants for over 20 years. Never have I had the trivia night, two nights in a row. This caused us to leave earlier than we wanted. If you want a variety of beer, this place has it. If you want food, DEFINATELY DO NOT eat here. If you want some dialogue, do not waste your time. If you want attitude and subpar service with obnoxious trivia, this place is for you. Overall, would I come back, nope.

It took several visits to Oksumi for me to realize just how special a place it is. Oh, make no…read moremistake, I knew that I liked it from the first visit, but it took a bit of reflection, and a bit of exploring the menu, for Oksumi's charm to really unfold, before me. Read other reviews, and the phrase "nothing fancy" keeps appearing. Another reviewer calls it "simple" and "to the point." This, right here, is the soul of Oksumi. It isn't a restaurant using the idea of ramen as a canvas for the ego of a chef looking to reinvent the dish. It is a ramenya, and its menu is a love letter to ramen. It does not need to uplift or reinvent ramen, because ramen is already perfect, as it is. One does not taste ego in Oksumi's dishes; one tastes respect, care, craftsmanship, and balance. Perhaps most importantly, one tastes every ingredient, and one tastes the role that every ingredient plays in the whole of one's ramen experience. As I explored the menu, as I tasted each element in my bowl, I found myself, again and again, noticing the quality of each element I tasted. The karaage is crisp, juicy inside, and its notes of melting fat aren't lost, even against a spicier base. The tonkotsu is silky upon the tongue, the shio clean but not at all simple, a subtle medley of salt, chicken, and the transparency needed to let the more delicate elements like the cilantro and bean sprouts express themselves, even as the fresh garlic and bonito express themselves more assertively. Oksumi's care and attention to balance encourages one to see these simple, elemental forms of ramen not as "basic" in the slightest, but as works of art expressed in their own whitespace. Approach the shio here not with the need for every space to be filled. This dish is a culinary Gokui no Uta. If you think there is something, there is nothing; if you think there is nothing, there is something. Over a fragile moment with calamari, in which I reflected that I had never once tasted a rubbery or greasy piece of squid at Oksumi, and in fact, had never tasted a *better* piece of squid, not even in my years on the California coast, it really came home for me. Oksumi is a place in which I stopped consuming, and started appreciating the "something-there." I wandered the menu, from tonkotsu black garlic (a flavor hurricane) to simple shio and the robustness of vegetarian Nagoya-style ramen, and let myself dissolve into the moment, into the Kai, the "something-there" that manifests when one's mind stops playing with its expectations and assumptions, and simply experiences. My happiest moments, as a diner, happen when a meal silences my unreasonable, arrogant, chattering mind, and brings me to a lighted door of experience somewhere between the late Leonard Cohen's semi-contrition and the late Anthony Bourdain's quiet confessionals in moments of being a stranger at a table. Again and again, I return to Oksumi, to understand what ramen *is*, and to humble my difficult, noisy mind to a level of quiet that can appreciate the Kai, the "something-there" that appears only when the mind is still, quiet, and allows itself to experience without a commentary track of judgment. Calling Oksumi "simple" is the highest praise one can pay it. Its ramen does not *need* adornment because its ramen is as adorned as ramen might ever need to be. Your attention is the substrate upon which Oksumi's elemental, straightforward ramen expresses itself. This place is an underrated treasure.

But... seems like every time I come back there are less and less beers. I am worried that they are not going to make it and for craft beer enthusiasts this is the best thing in the area. Especially because anything else close is 20 plus minutes away. With that being said, this would be a great place for groups or to start a low key date. There is craft beer, wine, cider, THC beverages and they even have a few mixed drinks as well as JELLO SHOTS! All the mixed drinks are wine based liquor which is quite progressive. They don't really have food, but there is a Publix in this same mall area, plus about 5 other restaurants including: Chinese, Japanese, sushi, burgers, Thai, pizza and donuts. To give you an idea of how it works, you give them a form of payment, they give you a card and you serve your own draft by the ounce. It is a great concept because you can pour yourself as much or a little as you want. And it tracks your spending so there are no surprises at the end of your visit. In addition, there are TVs, a jukebox and games. Tipping is optional, but there is friendly service and every couter person I have interacted with has been fantastic. I would highly recommend this hidden gem and with more support, especially from the craft beer culture, maybe this place will survive. And to be perfectly transparent, this is mostly because I selfishly want a convenient place to get craft beer on draft. Come visit Tap that Beer House, it is an experience all it's own.
