I attended a private event at Desert Foothills recently and found it to be one of the coolest…read moreexperiences of my life! Attending a vendor conference in the Phoenix-area, the last night of the conference was a private party on the Desert Foothills grounds. While Phoenix was suffering through an unseasonably cold winter, the amenities of Desert Foothills didn't dampen anyone's spirits in the slightest. From the retro, ranch-like "Welcome" sign, to the warm and welcoming firepits and patio heaters spread generously throughout the grounds, the venue had everything you could ask for in an open air space. Burros wearing cooler saddles entertained--and refreshed--the attendees, and clever miniature buckets containing everything you needed to make s'mores were nice touches. If you did get too cold, the barn area was very warm and toasty, with an impressive light display and plenty of room for dining, mingling, and a live musical performance (one that, with superior sound and speakers throughout the venue, you could hear clearly no matter where you were). Again, everything was top-notch and I'm jealous of anyone that hosts their event here in the future! In the end, I'm really disappointed that I don't live in the Phoenix area as I would love to host or attend more events here.

The classes were excellent, I did a boxing class with 3 other people, and a TRX class with 6 others, aerial yoga had 8 of us hanging on silks plus the instructor. I wish I could have taken more classes, and done some of the workshops. The spa was awesome too, I had a lymphatic massage using silicone cups that felt great and I don't know if it was this, or the hot and cold plunges, or the salt water pool, or just the whole vibe of Civana, but I left feeling lighter and refreshed. I need to go back and stay a few days. It was nice to be there without any spouse or friends. I could just do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted.

This is my second visit with CIVANA. Overall a very good experience. The spa is nice and the rooms…read moreare pretty comfortable. I think my favorite part of my visit had to be the classes in particular the fengu shi and numerology class. I definitely can't wait to go home and try some of the things I learned in these classes. I personally didn't want to leave the resort, so I opted for the all inclusive package that included daily spa credit. This to me is a nice option to not have to think about what I'll eat. I also opted in purchasing the shuttle to CIVANA. It was an extra cost that most resorts normally include in total pricing, but it was fine. They have an option to do a time shuttle or pay for private shuttle service as well.

I did not enjoy my experience at Boulders. I did think the initial check in was impressive, as they…read moreknew exactly who we were when we got to the front desk. The standalone Casita was STUNNING and we really enjoyed that space. Plus, the grounds were really beautiful. My issues were the pool customer service, food experience, and the inability to walk through the property comfortably. The pool service SUCKED. Our food was missing items that the menu said it included, the drinks were awful and didn't even come with straws, even though everyone else had straws, and there was a very disruptive family in the pool who were loud and splashing water all over the outside of the pool. At one point, they splashed us and the water got all over our food. The staff member was literally talking to us when it happened and didn't do anything about out. When the pool has a very disruptive group, the staff deal with it. The food sucked. We went to the Spotted Donkey for my wife's birthday and the food was disgusting. Soggy tacos, pre packaged rice, a totally disappointing experience and they didn't even acknowledge her birthday even though I included it on the reservation. That was a very disappointing experience. We enjoy walking resort properties and it just wasn't set up for that. You need to request a golf cart to go anywhere and some of the drivers weren't very friendly. We will absolutely not be back.
