I have never eaten here, and if I'm completely honest, don't really have any desire to, because I do see this place as a sophisticated, beautiful 'bar', with sophisticated, beautiful 'beverages'. I have however, heard good things about the Sunday roast in particular if that's what you're after. Now onto the best bit, the cocktails. The staff are well trained here, and definitely know what they're doing in terms of making a good drink. The menu has been designed to cater for the mass market, but not in the "lets just stick a load of sugar syrup" way that most places do. I've sampled a fair few off their menu, my favourite being the "hello sailor" which comprises of sailor jerry rum, cinnamon, apple juice (and something else that my rum-fuelled brain can't remember). Absolutely delicious. It's a great little place, with knowledgeable and friendly staff, a soft warm ambience, and great drinks. I'm donning the flat shoes in future to make the short walk to greet my rum-flavoured seaman. Hello sailor.

I love Baa Bar if nothing more than for it's name. (Tell me it isn't fun saying Baaaaaah Bar after…read morea couple drinks!) The place is lovely inside and really a step up from its surroundings. Drinks are fun and imaginative, and it's not terribly expensive. The place can get packed pretty quickly as it's tiny and the area is obviously packed with students stalking alcohol like it's key to their surviving the next 10 minutes -- which, granted, for many it probably is.

It's one of those 'meh' places, perhaps not 'meh' enough to warrant a harsh two stars as it has a superb outside balcony feature for those sun-drenched afternoons and Smoky Joes. Plus the drinks are cheap. Of course they are, it's a Baa Bar. Winner. You'll get the odd club night here but it seems to have entered the collective consciousness as a venue for 'pre-drink drinks'. And hey, they have a place. I bet if we put together a list of pre-drinks drinks places we'd end up with something colossal. The music's not exactly my cup of tea with all that jungle, drum n' bass and underground dance (I'm making myself sound old, I must stop) but if that floats your boat then this place will too. A worthy Fallowfield contender.

So...I would not have picked this place as my first choice as a spot to work off a hangover. It had too many clean lines. I was wanting something old, dark, traditional, dark, quiet-ish and dark. So it was dark but in no way traditional. None-the-less there was indeed a Bloody Mary Special so all went well. It was a special that included an English breakfast. Between the Bloody Mary the hearty eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns and so on...I left in far better shape than I arrived. That was the extend of my experience- which seems a shame as there is a lot to do here (billiards, terrace- karaoke - they told us). I don't know that I would say this will become me Sunday recovery go-to place, but I will likely return and check it out under different circumstances.

They launched three new variants - studio 54, all cocktails popularised in the 70's, Mexican/tiki themed cocktails and my personal favourite Prohibition. I had cocktails st Blackdog quite a few times and they never disappoint and these be additions to menu are very welcome in my opinion. We had some rather fantastic Manhattens, Sazeracs, and a New York sour -the standout drink for me. A traditional whisky sour topped with red wine, sounds crazy but it's fantastic. Next time I'm looking for somewhere to drink cocktails and chat to some very knowledgeable mixologists I'll be popping along here.

At first we were rushed to order when the bar was not busy with a snide remark from the woman behind the bar telling us to look at the board when my friends were unsure what to order. Two of us decided just to drink water as it was 1pm and did not want to drink, with the woman then saying 'or buy a non alcoholic drink were an independent business our staff need paying' with a disgusting attitude. 5 of the group did however buy a drink so uncomfortably we went upstairs to drink these. When we walked out of the establishment the woman behind the bar was giving us the finger behind our backs and then shouted thank you, which we should've realised we needed to do since she made our time there so horrible :)
