Selection pushes woke liberalism. Christian wall is all Protestant. Stickers have inappropriate humor and jokes even though kids are exploring them. Used books also lack variety. Not a lot of genres. Not a lot of classics. One lady at the counter who keeps to herself mostly. Prices are just ok. Some fun gifts. Some street parking. Nice that they're open in Mondays as it seems a lot of retailers are closed. read more

What a great book store! They let you bring your dog in if they are well behaved and they have a large selection of books. The kids area had a seat and little stools so you could explore and possible read a book. I love a good book store and this place fit the bill. They had local arts items, cards, stickers, and little knick knacks that people like to pick up. Parking in downtown Brenham was pretty easy even on a Saturday. read more

We were in town from Weatherford, TX to visit the blue bell creamery and walk around downtown when we saw this book store. It is amazing they have tons of books for just about anyone, stickers galore and I felt like the books weren't priced too bad. My kiddo found a couple of signed books in the kids section and I got a blind date with a book. The people who worked there were super helpful and knowledgeable. Oh my gosh this place is incredible! I cannot wait to go back and feel lucky that I can be there in an hour or so. We came across it while on a little getaway to Brenham and walking downtown. We ended up going back twice in one weekend! My 9 year old son could have spent all day there and so could I! We walked out with bags full of all kinds of books and were told we can turn in our own books for store credit! I have already made plans to visit again at Christmastime. It looks small but it actually has room after room of well thought out sections of delight. Grab a coffee down the street and come by here if you enjoy any kind of reading. Just make sure you leave enough time. This place definitely sucks you in! read more

This place is so cute! It's nice, cozy, and has a wide collection of books given the size of the space! The books are affordable, and they even sometimes have a clearance section where you can get a book for a dollar or less! They also have movies and little things other than books. I've also always had pleasant experiences with the staff. This is a place I always stop by when I visit downtown Brenham. read more

I visited Brenham for the day and loved this bookstore. They had a lot of quirky items to browse that included Jane Austen and Harry Potter related content. The books were separated in nice sections with a theme. Their romance section was lovely. They had piano music in the background and a nice setup! They've only been in this new location a couple weeks and they're still getting settled in, but we loved what they were doing with place...books, books and more books! They have a decent collection , especially murder mysteries, not a lot of science fiction, their pricing is pretty good and the young lady that waited on us was super friendly.....note to self.... Friday afternoon is not the best time to go anywhere downtown 'cause that's when everybody else is there. read more

As a matter of conscience, I can't give a small, local, old-school bookstore anything less than four stars, but due to selection available, Book Nook is kind of pushing it to get those four stars that you see up there. It's a quaint little bookstore in a quaint little downtown, with the appropriately creaky wooden floorboards that any real bookstore should have. But that doesn't excuse a selection that consists largely of even the worst of what folks call "light summer reading." This is the kind of place that has three shelves of Dean Koontz, Patricia Cornwell, Tom Clancy and others of their mass-produced, non-literary ilk, and not a single book by Chandler or Hammett. Or that has five copies of Animal Farm, but none of Homage to Catalonia or Down and Out in Paris and London. Or that does not have a single book by Jack Kerouac. Yet has an entire room of cheesy romance novels. I know they are pretty much obligated to give the people what they want, no matter how lousy that may be (things being what they are for bookstores these days) but that doesn't mean I have to give them five stars, either. It'd be like a restaurant in Brenham selling 20 kinds of ice cream, but not chocolate Blue Bell (pre-listeria, of course). read more

We love coming to the Book Nook! My teen daughter looks forward to coming here and scoping out what's new. She could spend hours in here. The prices are reasonable and the employees are always so nice and helpful. We've traded in books a few times for store credit which is always nice to have on hand. Greg M, what a cleverly written review! All of the plusses you listed are on target! Or on fleek, or whatever the young people are saying these days. Too bad your only complaint is less reflective of the shop itself and more a glimpse of what is surrounding community reads. You see, that's how used book stores work. Customers bring in books they've read, get credit, and use it towards the purchase of books other people have read and turned in. Or they just buy books other people have turned in, with cashy money and no store credit. The stock is created by the customers. What a wonderful opportunity for you to help them have the proper oblique, esoteric texts available for local and visiting hipsters! And how great is it for a local book store to have multiple copies books like Animal Farm that might be on local school reading lists! I think what really sets this place apart is the unique selection of literary jewelry and trinkets. If an Edgar Allen Poe necklace isn't the perfect stocking suffer, I don't know what is! Formally "Avalon Books" this is now primarily a used book store with a few new copies that attends to book clubs and a few popular books. Very knowledgable staff who sold me my first "Harry Potter" books. They buy used books for store credit. read more
