Even when freezing my membership during Lockdown and other times i couldn't afford it between gigs. Sure they inadvertently overcharged me for seven months recently by accident (and I didn't follow up) but it only amounted to $200 or so dollars total. So i asked myself: when does life become more important than money? Here. And the monthly charges are indeed hefty but I've never had a run in with rude employees, busted or rude employees of contract switcheroo's - all of which you find at other gyms. So i look at this way: as we get older, we exercise or we're going to have problems sooner. I'm past the old fifties and this could be my last active decade. Our phones are softening us up and not for good but there's also age so why not go out spinning, lifting and grinnin'! And another positive observation, Ace - how they do it here - I can't tell you but daily, they're mixing kids, adults, the elderly and every stripe of our cultural landscape together under one roof without any apparent issues at all. That alone is worth whatever they charge. We could all learn from this. Reminds me of my beloved Denmark. Normalcy, kindness and respect. It's nice to go to a place that's as much Peace Time as Exercise Time which of course makes Lifetime. Yes it's not cheap but if you want cheap, you become cheap. And investment here isn't subject to risk. You know those annoying brokerage or investment caveats? Not here: you put in the lifetime, you extend the life. And get this Yelp of an adage of mine: a gym is one of the few investments of time where if you honestly put the work in, you honestly get results. Yeah. That's what I'm talking about! Personal growth, Baby! Ah Rudyard Kipling. And you can't script this. I'm doing pectorals like Ren and the next thing I know, a phone call comes in from a Summit number and who is it? Berkeley Heights Life Time! "Sir um is this Charles Savoth?" "Why yes", says I. "Well someone returned your credit card at the front desk!" Honest members, honest gym, honestly I'm not the sharpest "bulb" in the gymnasium firmament! But really are bulbs sharp? I don't know but I'm happy as a clam Lifetime has my back, my Buddha front and my slippery plastic! And clams are happy - they're always smiling. Again personal growth on a mollusk-u-lar level!

Just joined this gym couple of weeks ago after being a member of Summit YMCA for many years. This…read moregym is surprisingly large (from outside it looks like a tiny storefront in a strip mall). This is review for powerlifters since that's my general workout. I have no views of group classes or cardio machines (although there appears to be plenty of machines and different options available). They have 3 lifting platforms with olympic weights. Feels good to be finally able to do heavy deadlifts without worrying about the floor giving out (at Summit, they had some issues of the floor weakening since it was above the locker room floor). There are plenty of dumbells, pre-weighted ez bars and straight bars, and some hammer type machines (although I think the brad is different). They also have a full section of sled pulls, battle ropes, tire flip, etc. which is kind of fun and way I get my cardio in my workouts. I workout early in the morning and the gym is not that crowded. If you come about 30 minutes late, you may have to wait for a squat rack to open, but overall I never had to wait to use a lifting station. Others have mentioned the loud music, and I agree that they do turn up the music a bit too loud, but I usually have my sound absorbing headphones on and it doesn't bother me too much. Places like the YMCA is great if you need other facilities like swimming pools, basketball courts, etc., but for pure weightlifting, I think Fitness Factory is a great facility and price is much cheaper as well.

When I started coming here just over a year ago, the gym was always spotless, and members wants/needs were being met. The locker rooms are severely due for an upgrade. Residential appliances in the restroom, and a sauna that's consistently filthy with wooden panels coming up/missing. The steam room has been broken for years, and the lockers are cramped and awkward. Overall I love this gym and community, just wish whoever is in charge would take a little more care of the facilities given the price of membership.

I've been spoiled at certain times in my life…read more I was born in Southern California and spent my very young years living three blocks from the beach and a short drive from Disneyland. I got out of having to be in the band, chorus or orchestra in middle school because my mom was a PTA big shot and pulled some strings. Every time we drove up from Jersey to Penn State to drop me off at college, the same mom would stop at the beer distributor and pick me up a case of Yuengling. And The Chatham Club was the first gym I ever went to. But being spoiled doesn't always have its privileges. Every other gym is ruined for me because none can keep up with this place. I've been a member here three separate times in my travails in and out of living in this area, and every time they seem to have something new for the members. With my recent membership I noticed 3 stationary bikes with large screens attached to them. They aren't TVs but provide you the opportunity to ride virtual courses. Instead of just being told there's a hill by some LCD screen, you see the hill approaching with the ocean to your left. Very cool stuff. They have a huge assortment of treadmills, bikes, ellipticals and machines (a separate spinning studio also). Pretty much everything you could need is here and then some. If there's any sort of minor complaint, the free weight area is a little small and can get crowded if you go during a busy time, but it's not too bad. There are also 6 squash courts if that's your thing plus an aerobics studio, pilates and probably tons of other things I don't even know about. Just get off your butt and go already.

Note my…read moreinterests and situation probably are different from yours, so I am very clear regarding these factors so you can judge whether this gym makes sense for you. Lifetime bills itself as an athletic country club. It definitely has that feel. Many amenities are included in membership including towel service, saunas, lockers with locks installed, a cafe, a spa with massages as well as full beauty services. An infants and Kids Academy (at extra cost) are available. Indoor sauna and steam rooms are available plus indoor whirlpool, lap pool and leisure pool. In season there's an outdoor pool. Basketball courts, rock climbing and a squash court and pickleball at available. Lots of pickleball - lessons, leagues and just play. I assume this is eating into some of the time alloted to other activities but since I joined after pickleball exploded as an activity, I can't judge before and after. Plus I do not play any of the above racket sports. Classes galore including yoga, cycle, Pilates, Barre and dance. Training classes at various levels of intensity and desired outcomes are numerous. As a new member you get a free training session. Everyone said, since I have neck surgery and have nuts, bolts and screws in my neck, I should schedule my personal session with Jason. And Jason caught into my physical limitations more quickly than many physical therapists. Afterwards, I bought another lesson with him, and a cardio evaluation, both of which were very worthwhile and kept me improving. The equipment floor has a wide variety of weights, machines, bicycles, ellipticals, treadmills - just about everything you'd think of. Plus there is staff all over. From time to time, I've needed help with equipment or have a question and everyone has been most helpful. The facility is exceptionally clean with no gym odor whatsoever. I truly hate the gym smell and I don't know exactly how they do it, but the ventilation and odor control must be superb. The equipment is very well maintained. I reported that one of the recumbent ellipticals wasn't working and someone was there within 5 minutes to fix it. Due to my physical limitations, most of the classes are off limits to me. (My neurosurgeon said "No pickleball or sky diving"). The personal training has been first rate. I dislike swimming, so while I watch people doing laps and just handing out in the indoor pool, I have no personal experience. I am on Medicare and get this gym free through United Healthcare Supplement as a benefit. It is about 20 minutes from my house. Other gyms were closer but not nearly as well appointed or clean. In addition to the distance, another trade off here is limited hours for those using Medicare. Entrance times: M-F 9:30 to 3, Sat after 2 and all day Sunday. Now if you come in at 3 on a Tuesday, you can stay as long as you want, but you have to be there by 3. I don't know what it is like to do an entire work out after work or in the evening although when I've stayed past three it's clearly starts getting more crowded. Since it's free, I don't have to assess a value vs benefit. It's an expensive, high end gym. There's another gym, also free, within walking distance. I'd rather drive 20 mins. Then again, I'm retired. I like working out on the weight equipment and recumbent elliptical bicycle. It's been incredibly helpful I have so many equipment options so I can find things that work for my specific circumstances. And as I have gotten stronger, more equipment is available. Personally if you have the money, I'd definitely at least tour one of the Life Time facilities.

We were looking at a few different towns, but I'm glad we wound up in Summit because I love going to this gym. Pros (which are significant): - Like a typical Equinox, it's large, clean, and well-maintained, with all the usual amenities (including the chilled, eucalyptus-scented towels). They wipe down the mats well in between classes. - It's less crowded than the Manhattan locations I used to frequent. It's unusual to have to wait for equipment or a shower, etc. - The classes are great--and, honestly, the main reason to join Equinox (because if you need just a place to work out, there are cheaper options). I take practically everything (except spinning), and my favorite instructors include Kelsey, Michelle, and Jennifer. (John T. is also very good, but unlike the others, I think he still doesn't know my name, even though I've been doing his classes for years.) Renee does an excellent job overseeing the group-fitness program. - I haven't done much personal training here (it's expensive), but I did have a few good sessions with Marcus (and a friend of mine has been working happily with him for years now). - The Kids Club is a wonderful resource for parents. It's so nice to work out while someone watches your kids. It's $20 for two hours, but that's a bargain given the going rate for babysitting in Summit. - A while back, I complained about the lack of a juice/snack bar. Now they have one, courtesy of Essex Squeeze--and it's great! - I also previously mentioned the lack of built-in combination locks. Now they have them. Possible improvements (some admittedly minor, some not realistic): - I wish they had a larger stretching area or additional stretching areas; the one area they do have can get crowded. - They should check the treadmills more regularly to make sure they're in good working order; too frequently you'll encounter one that wobbles a little or makes weird noises. - A larger pool, heated to a higher temperature, would be nice. - The men's bathroom could use upgrading. There are only two stalls and two urinals. I wish the stall doors were the kind that went down to the floor and indicated whether the stall was occupied. They could also be cleaned more frequently. - I also wish they had some private all-gender bathrooms (like certain other Equinoxes). - Like every Equinox, they need to upgrade their toilet paper (Charmin Ultra Strong is the way to go). - I miss the old Kiehl's products. The Grown Alchemist cleanser doesn't lather or rinse off well, and its lotion doesn't get absorbed easily. (But replacing Kiehl's with Grown Alchemist was a company-wide decision.)

But then I got paired with Emily, and honestly she's the sweetest and most amazing trainer. She made me feel comfortable right away and helped me build my routine from scratch. Even with a couple of bumps at the beginning, I'm really glad I joined. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and overall the experience has been worth it.

We are neither from the New Jersey area, but always make the 1.5 hr drive from PA to train here along with our squad. There's 4+ squat racks, 2+ benches, Olympic bars, stiff bars, bumper plates, Olympic plates and a bunch of accessory machines. The owner also offers boxing classes. Hiroshi (owner) is probably my favorite part of this gym. He loves the gym, the people and watching everyone lift. He sure is intimidating because he'll literally watch you, judge your form, but will give you advice on what you can improve on. However, he won't judge you if you don't do things the old school way as he learned from back in the day. The prices here are also super reasonable. I believe it is $23/m and $10 for walk-ins.
