WOW! AMAZING! UNBELIEVABLE! First time going to a certified rolfing therapist. Never knew about this kind of therapy other than from other people who swear by the results. I injured my knee 6 weeks ago which was swollen, very weak, stiff, and painful to walk on or bend. I started physical therapy 3x a week, which very slowly started to help, but the weakness was still there and the swelling only reduced a little. I had an MRI which showed fluid buildup around the ACL. I went to Gary Sat afternoon, explained what happen, and after a quick examination of my knee, he went to work. And let me tell you, he REALLY went to work. The amount of energy he used to work on me is simply amazing. He has what seems like laser focus as he was able to pin point EXACTLY where the issue was with my knee. He treated me for about 1 hour, and worked on multiple areas that are all connected to the root cause of my knee pain. This is not a massage by any sense of the word. It does hurt when Gary works on you but you're in complete control. You tell him how much pressure you can tolerate while he works on you and he adjusts accordingly. All I can say is his hands work MAGIC! When he was done, I could not believe it but my knee pain was GONE! I mean completely GONE! And so is the swelling! I woke up today Sun thinking ok, I bet some of the pain will be back because there's no way its all gone after only 1 session. Nope, today is the same as yesterday... NO PAIN! Gary is truly a gifted rolfing therapist who is very professional and knows his craft. Try him just once, you won't be disappointed. I give him 10 stars! Thanks Gary!!! read more

I had been eyeing this deal on Groupon for quite some time. I finally bought it after my friend went and raved about her experience. Tip: it books up extremely quick, so plan your visit for about 2 months out. Gary was wonderful and managed to get me in as I was visiting So Cal from Oakland. I've been having excruciating lower back pain for over a year. I can't do too much walking or sitting without hurting my spine. I went Saturday and was sore for about a day. I then drove to Vegas and did a ton of walking. It was then I realized I was able to walk without my spine feeling as if it were going to snap. I recommend this to anyone experiencing pain that is looking to treat your joints and bones. read more

Gary's Passion for Rolfing is evidenced with outstanding results. When I first came to his office I was misdiagnosed with a breathing problem for which I had taken rounds of meds. After my first visit, I began breathing better. By the second time I was back to normal. Recently, an old back injury resurfaced pinching a nerve and a bulged disc. I couldn't sleep, walk or sit without constant pain, restriction and assistance. Garys persistence and valuable problem solving skills uncovered layers of tight muscles. Every session left me feeling better until I was back to normal! I'm indebted and grateful for Gary's knowledge and experience, which are rivals only of his deep intuition for the human body. He believes in proper movement for optimal muscle function which has challenged my thinking toward better movement practices . For years I spent valuable resources on temporary fixes. Anyone who has the privilege of finding Gary has found a gem in the heart of Carlsbad. read more

I can't believe it took me this long to try Rolfing. I truly feel this is the best single thing I have ever done to heal my body. I expect to possibly eliminate or at least reduce my trips to chiropractor. I need more sessions but what a great start. Gary really knows his stuff. This is not a fufu feel good massage. It is truly healing, and can be a little painful at times, but it is so worth it. Thanks Gary. read more

This is therapeutic bodywork that is lasting and transformative. It's certainly not relaxing, not always comfortable, and sometimes downright painful (in a good way). But oh so worth it! I've had chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, swedish and deep tissue massage, the whole gamut. Each has its place, but I've found that the relief often takes several visits and/or it lasts for just a while. Rolfing on the other hand, is a realignment of the body's mechanics by releasing and lengthening connective tissue. So it frees up muscles, joints and ligaments and allows everything to function properly. Gary Mock does a great job of explaining how this all works. When you go, wear shorts and a t-shirt that allows access to put pressure directly on your skin. The treatment room IS the main office so if you arrive early for your appointment, you may need to wait in the hallway or front room. And there is no disrobing- you keep your clothes on at all times. You should also know that you may find Gary working on your extremities or other parts of your body that you may think are not related to the area that is in pain. He is very intuitive and is finding the connected spots that might be actually causing your pain!! After trying this out with a living social deal, I purchased a package and am very happy! read more

For those of you who don't know, Gary passed away. He was a caring person and a great healer. He will be missed. Rest In Peace, my friend.

I had a mild bicep tendon injury in my shoulder that bothered me for months. I did physical therapy and acupuncture for weeks. Physical Therapy just made me feel sore from the cupping. Acupuncture I felt better for a few days before it started bothering me again. I did a session with Gary after a friend recommended him. ONE session of deeply massaging into my fingers, forearms, shoulders and back and that lingering sports discomfort was gone. I highly recommend Gary for healing massage. I will be back! read more

First, I would advise anyone that is thinking about Rolfing to do their due diligence and research exactly what Rolfing is. It is not massage. This is not a bash on massage therapists, or the benefits of it. Rolfing is administered by a professional that has gone through 2 years of training and it goes way beyond a massage. Once you've decided that Rolfing may be beneficial for you,(anyone who has chronic pain or an injury that doesn't seem to be getting better), than I can tell you Gary at California Rolfing is the guy to see. I am 3 sessions in, and my pain which has been with me for 2 1/2 years is responding well. Gary is an awesome person who is committed to making a difference in the quality of life for his patients. He has chosen his career based on having Rolfing change his life, and wants to make that same difference in other people's lives. You will see on your first session that he is there to help people. I couldn't recommend him any higher. read more

Wow! My husband and I decided to give rolfing a try and it's exactly what we both need! Gary took the time to explain rolfing and was very thorough in the actual treatment. I've never felt such an overwhelming sense of relief after a massage so I know this is definitely something we will both be continuing. I'm excited to go in for my next treatment and after doing some research we realized Gary is priced very affordably compared to other rolfing prices. I have already referred a few friends his way and I would honestly recommend him to any one! read more

I found Gary last year through a last minute Groupon deal I decided to try out while visiting my sister in Vista. I am sooo glad to have been introduced to Rolfing by him! I walked in hoping to just loosen up some of my stiff muscles and walked out feeling fixed and balanced for the first time in years. He took the time to work through the knots and scar tissue that had accumulated over a decade of competitive cheer and dance, and gave me hope to continue competing as a professional tandem surfer (I hold two world titles). I felt so good after a couple of sessions spent "unlocking" my hip, shoulder and neck that I signed up for aerial silks and contortion classes the very next day. Felt great for months after. I will be flying back to So Cal next week and will definitely look Gary up to squeeze in a couple of sessions with him. read more

I had a great experience. I am always on the hunt for someone who can do a great job! I heard about Gary through one of my friends who had a session with him in Dec. She also had a great experience. She went into the session with no specific pains and walked out feeling great. I have had some shoulder pains, along with suffering from migraines. As a massage therapist, I understand that the entire body is connected and massaging my deltoid for a hour won't fix my shoulder. There are areas around the shoulder that affects its issues. He knew so much! My shoulder feels so much better and my neck feels light. Throughout the session, he checked in with me on pressure and how I was feeling. (I hate when someone just does their thing with no care of my opinion of pressure) The room was a basic office space room. He said he was moving to a better location soon. I honestly don't really care what the room looks like- my eyes are closed during the session. Since there are massage therapists on every corner, I am glad Carlsbad has added some quality to their realm of healing! read more

Gary is very skilled and knowledgeable. I have always been a little afraid of being Rolfed after a very intense experience I had with a Rolfer in LA years ago, but I have been having a lot of hip pain so i thought I would give it a try. The work started with my feet and lower legs, and was pretty intense, but afterwards I felt like I had more of a normal gait and wasn't limping. i have gone for five sessions now and each one has addressed various issues in my body. I have been a professional dancer and then yoga teacher and there are some pretty cranky areas. I feel like he has a compassionate way of helping a client move through discomfort and into greater health. read more

Gary is super nice. Laid back. Fixed some problems I forgot I had. Would have preferred we spent more time on my neck and shoulder. I have a herniated disc in my neck which is why I was there. Went for six sessions. Worked on low back one session which was awesome. Did the shoulder and neck for one session, also awesome. Worked on my arms and hands for two sessions which was kind of strange and pointless. Legs and feet for the last two sessions, that was awesome too. Sort of frustrated we only spent one session on what I originally came there for though. Got busy with work and stopped going. Might go back when I get more time. read more

Where do I start? Is been over a year that my shoulder started hurting. No injury, just age and wear and tear. I got to the point I couldn't raise my arm over my shoulder. I Sometimes needed help just removing my shirt. Sometimes raising it or reaching behind me would bring me to a jarring curse laced halt due to the pain. I can't count how many nights I took Advil PM in the hopes of actually sleeping through the night. Pulling up the blankets, reaching up for the pillow, or just trying to sleep on my side would be enough to wake me in a pain induced wide awake frustrated start. With luck I would go to sleep just in time for the alarm to wake me. That kind of pain and lack of sleep affects everything. Work, chores, relationships... temperament. When you're awake at 3am on weekends because of pain. .. unless you've been there... it's not something you can describe. Acupuncture, a few chiropractors, countless massage types/locations, pain meds... Occasionall relief for a day or two and then on to something else. My neighbors recommended Gary. Out of desperation or just to appease my GF I went. By the time Gary finished I raised my arm over my head expecting the pain I had grown to associate with the movement. I was in disbelief. I felt a small ache, but that was it. He is amazing. It's been a week, I've slept through the nights med free and have woken up refreshed and feeling like I actually slept! Depending on what your malady is, he may need to dig in and work it out... let him work his magic and you will not regret it. I can't thank Gary enough for the relief he has brought me. Thank you Ps.. Thank you too, to my GF for making the appointment and being loving enough to force me to go. read more

Nearly illuminated my long time neck issue in one visit! I highly recommend more visits, if you can afford it. Gary was an "interesting" person, but knows his practice well. I am sold on Rolfing now! read more

By focusing on not the actual pain area but its source, Gary has given us (I and my wife went for back to back sessions) the reasons to believe in him and the power of Rolfing. He is also a great people person, made us feel at ease and at home. He was genuinely interested in hearing about our issues and wanted to find real tangible solutions for them. We will be back and will be recommending them to all our friends. read more

Love Gary Mock!!! One of the best Rolfers ever! I've been in chronic lower back pain for 10 years and the very first session, I walked out of his office and didn't feel any pain!! I felt younger, lighter and my face showed no stress. Gary is very professional but also makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Rolfing and it's success takes time... don't expect miracles right away..if possible do all 10 sessions...miracles for relief of pain CAN happen!!! Very pleased with his work and have referred many friends and family to him read more

This has been the best massage ever. I'm an expert on massages as I used to have monthly massages everywhere, but when I moved to north county SD, it has been hard finding a good therapist. Jennifer was amazing! Her miracle hands made me relax and enjoy a nice massage. I did end up using a Groupon offer. It is a little pricy afterwards, but I'm sure it's worth it. read more

OMG. Totally a new experience. It's not a massage per-say. But it gives all the benefits of a massage (deep tissue) but specialized. I went to Gary with a aching back, I walked out with no greater pain with greatest results. I recommend Gary to everyone that has any aches. read more

Litterally I hobble in to a session with Gary and walk out. I have serious issues as a result of a kneecap replacement gone very badly. Gary has the touch. Not for the feint of heart , I am not Kidding the sessions can be painful but the results are amazing. Gary has me standing and walking straighter tha I have in years! This is the best I have ever seen as far as results. A good guy too I highly recommend Rolfing sessions with Gary. Ed read more

I have had fibromyalgia for years and Rolfing has been a game changer for me. The muscle tightness that fibromyalgia clients experience is a constant tightness which causes overall body pain. I do yoga and Rolfing regularly. Yoga is great because it brings the oxygen into the body and gets the muscles opened up but Rolfing is the only way I can break up the tightness in my muscles. The hands on approach of Rolfing is completely different than basic massage. I like to say it's massage with a purpose when I'm explaining Rolfing to people that haven't experienced it. Rolfing structurally aligns our connective tissue in the muscles to where they should be. It's like a chiropractor for the muscles. It frees up the muscles, joints, and ligaments so everything can function properly. I am a HUGE advocate for Rolfing because of the way it has helped me. Rolfing is beneficial to anyone. I see so many people with poor posture and in pain that don't know about Rolfing that could benefit from it. One Rolfing session helps but just like anything else in life, a regular routine of integrating Rolfing into your health lifestyle is where one can truly benefit to find your consistent lifestyle balance. I have been to others Rolfers before and Gary is the BEST I have ever experienced. He is extremely knowledgeable. He is very aware of how other parts of your body are contributing to other areas and in tune with the smaller and bigger picture of your body at the same time. Gary is super laid back so to a new person he may come off a bit oddly chill, but I've known him for over a year now on a regular basis and he is professional, kind, and sincerely cares about his work. Let him do his job on you and you will see the difference. read more

Gary was nice but I'm not sure if Rolfing is for me. I do believe in no pain no gain, but the pain was way too much and didn't justify the temporary minor relief I got. I have a super high pain thresh hold but this was a bit ridiculous. If you're thinking of this practice just be prepared to be in pain at a extreme level. no lies. I also had a couple of slices on my skin from his nails that I found later. It might work for some but it's just extremely painful. read more

I was born with congenital club feet requiring multiple corrective surgeries as a child. About 5 years ago I started experiencing pain in my right ankle that progressively got to a point that I could not walk for more than an hour. I am a hospital physician and am on my feet all day. I carried ibuprofen everywhere. I had a stash in my car, purse pocket..... That is how I got through my day, limping. 5 independent orthopedic surgeons offered to fuse my ankle. Doing a fusion at age 45 years means a hip replacement at 55..... Then I heard about rolfing from a colleague and decided to give it a try. Today marks the anniversary of that experience. My pain is gone, I walk not limp and am back to doing the activities I love. I got my life back! If you suffer from chronic structural pain or have experienced trauma or surgeries rolfing is a safe and powerful treatment. Gary is an intuitive healer. He senses where in your body he has to work with remarkable efficacy. Rolfing is not for wimps. But then if you have lived in pain you cannot be a wimp. It is with profound respect and deep gratitude I write this review. read more

Gary is intuitive. Friendly. And makes you feel comfortable right away. Definitely recommend for any bodily discomfort.

We got Group On coupons for California Rolfing and Massage. Gary is friendly and did listen to my concerns, hurts, and pains. However, I did not care for his insisted massage spots after I told him to concentrate on the back, he decided the legs instead. Although my wife looked into what 'rolfing' was, the deep tissue specializing was not for us. I went to a chiropractor doctor and advised us that we shouldn't do rolfing massages - because of the lack of fat and muscles in our body. Gary's massage just wasn't for petite or on thin side and should have known that - the doctor advice. read more

I called Gary after seeing his Groupon and I'm so glad I did! I tweaked my neck to where I could barely move and he gave me so much relief. Its not your typical massage with oils and what not but I got better results than any other massage I've had. Gary focuses not only on how to get rid of you pain but on where its coming from or what could be causing it and treats that area as well. I'm on the thin side and had no problem with anything as you can have him adjust the pressure to your liking. Any chiropractor that discourages this (as mentioned in another review) probably doesn't quite understand it or just wants your business and doesn't want you to go somewhere else. I feel that everyone could benefit from rolfing especially from Gary. THANKS GARY!! read more

If you are looking for a traditional deep tissue "body" massage, this is not for you. Gary concentrated on deep tissue massage of my shoulders, arms, and hands for one hour, the last five minutes on my neck. Be prepared to lay down on your back for the length of the session. The experience was painful, not enjoyable or relaxing. Wear shorts and a tank top. Gary is a very nice guy. I enjoyed talking to him. read more

Enter through east door and he's the 2nd door on the right. Small rooms is basically a small bedroom sized treatment room. If you're early, sit in the chair out in the hall. Gary is an intuitive therapist with great knowledge. He is very aware of changes made to your body throughout each session and has you walk, stretch and see how your body feels several times in each session to work on exactly what you need. I am a Family Nurse Practitioner and recommend many of my patients to PT. However, I feel that rolfing is much more effective for many people and I wish it was covered by insurance so more people could have the best results I've had with any therapy. I have recommended him many to many friends and hope to keep visiting him for tuneups periodically. read more

Rolfing has absolutely, hands down changed my life. I have been to other roofers and Gary is amazing. Do your research before you go in. This isn't about a relaxing massage - though he has someone that can do that. This is about making functional changes in your body and while its intense, it's effective. I couldn't go up stairs easily before. I had chronic back pain. My posture (it's still improving) was poor. So much has changed for my body that it has helped me in my sport and in my confidence. It's worth every single penny - better than anything else I have done for my pain. read more

I've had chronic neck and shoulder pain for too many years. I have been to other massages, chiropractors, physical therapy and doctors. I will definitely be returning to do more work with Gary. He was very knowledgeable and personable. He took the time to understand what problems I was having and tailor the care to my specific needs. I never write reviews and this will be short. I just got back from my massage and Gary is FANTASTIC. I've had normal massages before but Garys technique and experience just made me so relaxed and I felt 104% better walking out of his place. WOW! Amazing deep tissue work. My pain was GONE! You've got to try this Rolf Method if you have chronic pain. Just WOW.

What an amazing experience - just WOW! Hanja has a magnificent presence and instantly made me feel comfortable. My neck had been bothering me for a few days before I went - I was thinking about going to the chiro but decided to try this first and I'm so glad I did. It was not painful - there were a couple of spots I let her know were tender when she worked them and she took the appropriate care to make the pressure manageable, getting me to the point where there was no discomfort at all. Her knowledge is impressive and she is generous with it - in addition to performing the incredible rolfing treatment she taught me so much about what tends to contribute to and alleviate the conditions I had. I am grateful for the stretches she taught me that I could do on my own. When I got up from the table I was in awe of how much tension had been relieved, how much more stable and balanced I felt, and that I could even breathe better! Definitely the most powerful bodywork appointment I've ever had - without hesitation I would recommend Hanja! read more

Gary did an excellent job and gave me significant relief after one visit. He is also very nice and friendly with a good sense of humor. Rolfing is like a combination of deep tissue massage and physical therapy, very effective bit expensive wish insurance covered it. Gary is awesome so is his assistant Alison, they really go the extra mile. read more

I sure wish I could give this place a better review. After reading all the reviews I was really looking forward to this experience. My therapist was Elisa . I understand we all must start out sometime. ..I guess I was a one of her first clients. I truly felt no relief after 90 plus mins. I sure wish I could have been seen by someone else. Again I apologize for the rating, there was just a major lack of experience. read more

Gary is a gifted healer and all-around great guy. Amazing results - in the course of ten sessions, I regained lost mobility in nearly every part of my body, and my posture has improved as well. I plan to continue to work with Gary going forward to realize additional improvements in my health and well-being. Highly recommended! read more
