The outside is festooned with hanging baskets, and the interior has an appropriately 'Olde Worlde' feel, with lots of nooks and crannies. The garden at the back is equally attractive, and a lovely spot for a summer pint. It does good traditional pub food, a changing selection of real ales (including Harvey's). There's also en-suite accommodation, although I've not stayed here. The main downside is that it is often chock-full of tourists, and it's pricier than other pubs in the area. But then, you're paying for all that greenery!

Every different kind of plant is in there including strawberries. Obviously the kitchen takes full advantage of its doorstep suppliers! To top it off, there's a small stream at the bottom of the garden which if your lucky, you'll see the local swans gliding by. The food is excellent here. I had the ploughmans last time as it was too hot for anything else but the chef does have some impressive specials depending on the season. They offer rooms here too if you've had one to many beers to drive. £60 for a single room which, considering the surroundings, is a bargain!

Tired of having walked up and down the hill (and up and down again, and again) during the day, I was happy to unwind at this "micro"pub in the early evening. The emphasis is very firmly on modern style keg beers, and there's plenty to choose from. About half the beers are in steady rotation, the other half are "keepers". There's a printed list available, with the ABV and style of each item included. Some of the beers are very expensive, think of UK 7 for a high ABV half-pint, or even a third. A little too expensive methinks, but this Brighton is a tourist spot and prices along the Channel coast tend to be on the higher side of the spectrum anyway. It's a friendly place, with highly knowledgeable and welcoming staff, so I lingered for more than two hours and had a bite, too, one of their burgers (which was good and not too expensive). Beer wise, expect to spend at least UK6 and up on the regular ABV pints. I was in a bit of an agitated mood when I came there, due to problems with my vaping equipment, but the atmosphere made me calm down in due course. Good place altogether, and conveniently close to the station.

This is for sure going to be my new favourite beer spot…read more Great beer. Cool decor. Dog friendly.... I literally couldn't ask for more. Although, their bacon dusted chips don't exactly harm their rating either... I've been meaning to try this place for such a long time and I am so glad I got the chance to!! I met a fellow Yelper here (to recommend all the best choices) as well as some of her friends and I was just delighted at every step, really. Firstly, the design of this place is magic. Somehow they're cool but casual - edgy but familiar at the same time. Everything looks great and it's slick and modern, but there's a comfortable charm about the place as well which reeks of an old, local pub. It's a wonderful combination and it works effortlessly. Secondly, the beer. They have every kind of beer, at every percentage and (most helpfully) they have friendly and knowledgable staff to help you find your perfect match. They don't even correct you when you order a 'Number 1' instead of an 'N1', which shows their kindness! :P Being an utter craft beer newbie, this was a great experience and there is definitely going to be a beer here for you, regardless of your taste. Thirdly, the food!! I had bacon dusted chips. Yes, you heard me! Bacon dust. As in, 100% bacon. Made into dust. It was an odd concoction but a tasty one nonetheless and if you're in the mood for chips but don't fancy being boring this is a great option! The chips themselves were fab - crispy and perfect! Lastly, they allow dogs in here, which (for a dog lover/owner) is the cherry on top, really!! Overall, this place is a true gem. It feels like it's well run and has been well thought out. It's certainly going to be well loved by me and Bramble, that's for sue, as I guarantee I will be back to try more of their wonderful beers!!

Its been owned by the Dark Star group (they own the lovely Evening Star near Brighton Station) so you know its going to be a nice, relaxed and friendly place with plenty of creative types lurking at the bar. Make sure you have a good feed up before you head there as they don't do food in the evening but they make up for that in the atmosphere in the pub.

Originally built in the 1920s, the interior has been stripped back and redecorated in a clean, modern style, though if I'm honest it's a little too stripped-back for my liking, and lacking in atmosphere when it is quiet. There's a sheltered smoking terrace and small beer garden at the rear. But the number of photographs and other momentos on the bar hint at a loyal and active local group of regulars: and the pub is a real stalwart on the local live music scene, with a stage area and piano, and is usually packed for such events. And the locals and staff are indeed very friendly - but be warned: there are some keen Brighton & Hove Albion FC fans among them, so be careful if you talk about soccer! The beer range is, of course, the main draw, and features Dark Stars' own brews, such as Hophead, Dark Star Porter, the heavy Winter Solstice, Festival Ale and regular guest ales: examples have included the delicious, golden and hoppy Amarillo from the Crouch End Brewery. Overall, a good watering hole. Making the interior a bit more cosy would add another star.

They also have a mystery light and dark beer selection that changes regularly, which they reveal once the cask or keg is finished. There's almost always a selection of Kernel, Partizan and Beavertown beers, in addition to some fine Belgian brews, like Delirium Tremens. The only reason I haven't added a 5th star is that a few more kegs would not go amiss here. Oh, and most importantly, they have deep fried gherkins that are FLIPPING DELICIOUS. Their chips are great too, but deep fried gherkins. Fried pickles. yes yes yesssss. The bar staff and proprietor (proprietrix, really) are friendly and fun (I suggest going during Oktoberfest for lederhosen looks and some great German keg brews) and it's a welcome addition to the growing craft beer community here in Brighton.

We got to taste some of the beers before we decided as well and were explained what they tasted like as well, which I like. The place might get a bit crowded since its not the biggest one in the world, but it was a cozy little place and I would love to go here if ever in Brighton again. Did not have the time to stay for long, but I liked what I saw. They also to quiz and have a selection of board games if you are into that. Oh yes, they also do burgers and some sides, from the menu it felt tasty, but we didnt try any of their food, so I cannot tell. All in all, glad we walked in on this place. You do not have to be a beer geek to go here or add all your beers to untappd, but its a place where you can try a lot of different beers for sure.
