A lovely pub that was recommended to us by the owner/manager/teacher at Croyde Surf Academy, where…read moreI had just come from after working up a huge appetite in the surf! The bar is pretty light and very welcoming and the staff was as welcoming as any place we have been to in Devon (very welcoming, in case you wondered). The place to go if the sun is out though, is the raised terraced area around the back. It gets the full day sun, is peaceful, has patio doors that open onto upstairs dining room so is easy to get to the bar and the marble tables out there warm up in the sun and turn into something of a stone hot plate - which was nice. The burgers are definitely a good choice if coming for food. You can get the basic for about £8/9 and then you can stack the ingredients to your hearts content (blue cheese, jalapeño peppers, cheddar, onions, bacon, etc.) and they are beautifully presented to the table on big chunky wooden boards by the chef himself. As for parking, best head for the village car park just around the corner, there is not much space on the road outside!

You won't get a warmer welcome than here and the food's pretty good too!…read more Cavie and his team are the yoda's of making friends, old and new, and you feel more like you are in his home than his business. Relaxed atmosphere, awesome food that is cooked with love and care, fantastic range of local and other beers etc. I defy anyone not to get hooked on the Goblin! The menu changes regularly but their fish and chips are the best around. The specials board will have you drooling but do leave room for dessert. The staff are knowledgeable about the menu and the drinks menu and will knock up a mean cocktail too! The prices are great value for what you get too. Probably the best coffee around and trust me, I'm really fussy about my flat whites. Free wifi, great live music (thanks Jim and friends) and the decor is intriguing. If you're really lucky there will be a freshly baked lemon polenta cake which is divine! Trust me, once you discover this real gem of local village pub you will be back again and again and again..!
