Barn weddings and banquet halls are the rage around here and nothing felt right for us. Then I found a new (recently renovated) venue called Lake Michigan Gardens. We were sold. We did the vows outside with the pond, flowers, arbors, and space for guests to roam was lovely. The dining area is spacious and you can set it up how you prefer. The bar area is really great and us girls had fun in the brides room getting ready. Kristy, the event coordinator, is down to earth and so helpful and we just knew it was the spot for us. I think we may be the first wedding they have had, but I guarentee it will not be their last. They will work with you on vendors and your thoughts and wants. Weddings are crazy, but ours went smoothly and it had a lot to do with Lake Michigan Gardens. I highly recommend checking out this lovely spot. All of my family and friends had nothing but high praises for the venue and a beautiful day there.

Equally, our server didn't wash our glasses before switching from white to red nor really explained any of the wines while tasting them. She did leave us the bottle to peruse details. Some of the more common varietals had a unique flavor so go in open minded for what notes of fruit or spices you taste. Overall if the service level increased, this spot would easily be a 5/5.

There is plenty of parking (with signage) and even an overflow parking area. The outdoor ceremony location has a turf ground and surrounded by trees. The turf made it easy to walk with heels and the trees helped provide more of a romantic secluded environment. The reception area had an outdoor tent area (for the post ceremony appetizers and drinks) and an indoor area (for the formal dinner). Can't say anything from a planning/organization standpoint but everything went smoothly from a guest's perspective and it was a lovely area to attend a wedding.

Lee was very knowledgeable and explained all the wines. He told us about his adventures and explained our wines in great detail. I do not like dry wines so I chose the sweeter white wine package. My friends on the other hand chose the reds. At the very end of the tasting we had a chance to try his secret hot wine mule. It was super delicious and would be a great gift idea or souvenir. There's a lot of weird characters around the hotel so just be very cautious of your surroundings. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and social. Rooms were very clean and well kept. I couldn't rate the breakfast since I wasn't staying in the morning but the lobby was really clean and I was satisfied with my visit. Checking in was that an issue at all either.

She interrupted me while I was talking with my kids on my phone and asked me to leave. She rudely asked me to leave again, this time in front of other guests. Her behaviour was unprofessional and made me feel unwelcome, even though I had spent money at the restaurant. I also noticed that her attitude seemed to make other guests uncomfortable, despite my efforts to be friendly. While the restaurant itself was decent, the hotel staff's treatment of me was unacceptable. I would not recommend using the hotel lobby unless you are a guest, as the staff clearly does not accommodate restaurant patrons.

I can't say enough good things about this venue and staff. I wouldn't wish our Covid wedding planning stress on any bride and groom, but I will tell you from personal experience, Shadowland will stop at NOTHING to give you the best wedding reception possible! We were the classic "had everything planned out pre-Covid" story, so the Covid curveball really forced us to revise all our plans. Shadowland worked with the state on what the current guidelines were, and kept us updated with every change, giving us our options and telling us what to expect. Our venue wedding coordinator, Rysa, was so responsive with our questions, and truly made us feel like our wedding day was as important to them as it was to us. Having an August 2020 wedding, we were unfortunately constrained to an outdoor reception, and although it was crushing to not be able to us their beautiful ballroom, I cried happy tears when they informed us they would be putting up tents for us outside so we could still host our reception with them. With so many cancelations and changes, it was a huge relief to know they were still in our corner and not going to give up on us! Not only did they stick with us, but they went above and beyond to make sure it was amazing. One perfect example of their attention to detail was the color-coordinated bracelets they provided for guests to display their social comfort levels at the reception. This was a huge hit during an event where we had many guests of varied preferences. I would have never thought of this, but it made ALL the difference and was one less thing for me to worry about on our wedding day when we were giving out hugs and hellos. I will admit, even though we didn't choose it on purpose, the outdoor "tent on the beach" feel was actually pretty great! The guests loved being able to walk down for sunset pictures, and it was fun dancing under the stars. Fortunately for us, the one thing we did NOT have to change was our food choices because Shadowland provided all the catering. There were so many great meal options available at our tasting that it was actually hard to pick what to serve on our wedding day, and as expected, everything was delicious! We received many compliments on the food. Our wedding reception was absolutely perfect, even amidst the ongoing changes, and i know we have Shadowland to thank for making it possible.

Nicole and Jasmine made the entire planning process so easy and fun. I didn't have a wedding planner or coordinator, so it was helpful to lean on Jasmine for questions or advice. She was organized, responsive, so sweet, and helpful. Even with my crazy type-A personality I was able to relax on my wedding day knowing Jasmine had everything covered. We had 150 people and the ballroom was a great size for that. We used the patio for cocktail hour, and that was a hit. We had a second bar on the patio for cocktail hour as well. The food was great; we got a lot of compliments and it was so easy to have catering through Shadowland. The ballroom was beautiful. The only thing I didn't love was the chairs at Shadowland, so I went with gold chiavari chairs from www.chiavarichairswedding.com and they were fantastic and really made the room look great. I recommend using their preferred vendor list. It was so nice to have vendors who were familiar with the staff and layout. We used Ben Pancoast photography and photo booth and Music Unlimited for our DJ. They were terrific. We rented the carousel for 1 hour and it was a HIT. Our wedding was 21+ and the adults loved it. We definitely needed the full hour for the 150 guests to get our photos done first. We also loved the Mock Wedding shadowland throws for their confirmed couples. It was a great way to meet vendors and see the space in action. THANK YOU Jasmine and Nicole for making sure my husband and I had a perfect wedding day. It really was the best.
