Came here for some girls day wine tasting. We parked right out front and walked into the store. There was no one in the store so we didn't need to wait to sign up for the wine tasting. Lee was very knowledgeable and explained all the wines. He told us about his adventures and explained our wines in great detail. I do not like dry wines so I chose the sweeter white wine package. My friends on the other hand chose the reds. At the very end of the tasting we had a chance to try his secret hot wine mule. It was super delicious and would be a great gift idea or souvenir. We visited white pine winery because I read online they were dog friendly :) I was pleasantly surprised to learn about how influential the owner, Dave, is in the wine community. You can immediately tell from all the award winning wines on display. Jenn talked us through their offerings and provided a 13/10 experience - we ended up buying 4 bottles after our tasting a long with a few other goodies. Another year, another Reindog parade, ANOTHER VISIT TO WHITE PINE! Nothing seems to warm the heart and soul quite like the combo of the parade along with a glass of their delicious mulled wine. The tasting room attendants are lovely, as always. They take the time to explain all of the flavors and aromas of the wines and are always so happy to help. Being dog-friendly (doggy biscuits included) gives this place an A+++++++ in my book. A must visit in winter or summer! read more

Stop #3 on our sister wine tour was White Pine Winery! The tastings here are a little different because they prefer you just get one of their set flights (6 dry whites or 6 sweets, etc). My sister and I both choose a flight of 6 for $8, and thought about half were great and half were just okay. I think had we been able to choose all 6 of our tastings we would have thought much more highly of our tastings since we know our own tastebuds best! While we were there another older couple walked in, and when asked what kind of wine they liked they both answered "dry white!" quickly and laughed, stating it was the only kind of wine they enjoyed. Without even hesitating, the worker said "well, I bet I can change your minds with our red" and starts serving them a red flight -- AND CHARGES THEM FOR IT! It was the strangest thing ever, and had that been done to me I would have been upset. The couple whispered about how they didn't want it, and asked not to be served some of their tastings, but still paid for it. It. Was. Weird. Anyway, not the best situation to stand next to, not the best flights, and not the best winery. We would probably pass next time! read more

Right next to Lazy Ballerina Winery. There are lots of winery's in this area and I would highly recommend trying as many as you can to see what is your favorite. The atmosphere, employees and wines are all amazing here. Employees are very kind and informative. They will tell you all about the wines and will ask what types of wines you tend to like then send you in the right direction of what to get. I'm more of a sweet wine person. After tasting and talking to the worker, I found the Ice wine is my favorite from here. read more

I'll admit, when I see a wine shop with tons of wine-type signs and kitchen decorations for sale, my skeptisim goes up. White pine however, proved me wrong, and after further thought, I realized given their main street/downtown location amidst several other shops all whom have window displays/flair to draw in the seasonal tourists, it made sense. Better yet, we really enjoyed several of the wines poured for us, and hearing about the wine making journey from the owner, Dave. As a west coast gal, my pallet prefers more of the bolder reds, and crisp bubbles, and White Pine was able to share some surprising pours with me. I liked the suggested flights for folks like me that have some idea of what they already like or don't like. Wine shouldn't be super sweet and I hope Dave is able to share his passion and immense experience growing good wine (not all sugary) with his area so they can continue educating and expanding folk's preferences. I took home a few bottles and loved the time in the shop... and even bought a kitchen towel that says "Let's wear yoga pants and drink wine". Nice little wine tasting venue on the main drag through St. Joe's ... one of a number on the street. While most of these places close up at 5 pm on Sunday - it seems like they roll up the streets - this one stayed open just because we walked in the door 5 minutes before closing - classy. For a storefront wine tasting place this one was just perfect. They served enough tastes for your measure, and they had a nice selection of wines for purchase. They also had a bench outside for anyone waiting and not tasting that day - nice thought. Tastings were 6 samples for $8 - although this does change slightly from time to time depending on supply. The store has a nice ambiance, and is filled with impulse buy and souvenir stuff for your pleasure. Try it. read more

I absolutely loved this winery. What I loved even more is how they separated tastings more to people's tastes. I treated my dad to the "sweethearts" tasting, as we both have very similar tastes, and he loved the wines so much he bought a bottle of each. This is one of my favorite wineries in the area. The owner had a PhD in wine making so you know the wine is good. They rotate their wines for their tasting so you know you can always try something new. Their space is a little small so when it's busy it might get a little crowded. While flipping through a local gazette , I found a coupon for White Pine. Happily, I left my hotel to head to the winery. What a darling little spot, filled with little knickknacks for the home. The staff was friendly, and suggested a flight. I did the tasting, and the wines were good, yet extremely sweet to my taste buds. While I didn't leave with bottles, I left with new facts about Michigan wines. There's always something to learn, and what better teacher than someone who's passionate about what the sell. I wasn't able to use my little coupon... but it got me in the door and I would still reccomend stopping by White Pine if you are in the area. read more

This one was on my list to try, and we wanted to hit up a few wineries near where we were staying. I believe that the tastings ran 6 tastings for 6 dollars and about 1.5 oz pours. They were known for their dry wines which worked great for us, but they had a little bit of everything. The server was very knowledgeable, and I enjoyed the conversation. He talked to us and gave us wine based off of our tastings. The bottles of wine ranged from 20-30 dollars. I was hesitant to buy a bottle at first, and I probably would have bought one if they opened earlier in the next morning. I definitely recommend giving this place a try! read more

We jumped in over here while waiting for our party bus to pick us up. They offer wine tastings and wine by the glass. Everything was beautifully displayed here and there was tons of wine knicknacks to buy too! We were persuaded to try their sangria, and boy were we glad we did! It just seemed to be one of their basic whites with peaches, strawberries and other fruit in it. The wine picked up the fruit flavors so beautifully... the drink was refreshing and sweet in a natural way. Not too sweet or sugary, though. We all LOVED IT. I got a bottle of the white to try and make this on my own too. The ladies in the shop were super nice as well. It was a quick stop but a productive one! read more

We've been coming to Michigan for years and a few years ago White Pine Winery opened a tasting room in St. Joseph. For $6 you can do a tasting of six wines. They have suggested 'pairings' but will also customize based on your preferences. They are extremely knowledgable and friendly. It's one of the things we look forward to each year we visit! If you end up buying wines (I believe it's $40 or more) they waive the wine tasting fee. Chances are you won't pay for the tasting! Their wines are very good: a nice grouping of Michigan-based grapes, from dry to sweet. Favorite? Probably the ice wine. Mix it with their Effervescence and you get a superb mix of bubbly and sweet. I also recommend their Serendipity for a nice red. They serve crackers and chocolates to cleanse the palette and enhance the wine. The wines are reasonably priced and there's a wine club that ships to just about every state. Highly recommended! read more

This winery is a great example of Michigan wine. They play to the strengths of the region, including bottling an Ice Wine which takes advantage of frozen grapes. I usually drink red wine but at White Pine, I preferred the whites. I think the Michigan grapes are more suited for them. Everyone's palate is different, so it is great they give you the opportunity to sample all (about) 10 of them. The wine tasting was $5, which is waived if you buy a bottle of wine. The bottles range from $10.99 to $24.99 so there is something for everyone. read more

White Pine Winery is a tasting room located on the main street of the quaint beach town of St. Joseph, Michigan. My parents have a lake home in downtown so my husband and I venture over there every now in then to visit and vacation. This past weekend was one of those weekends. We stopped into White Pine Winery on a whim because we had an hour wait for dinner at a local restaurant. Not only did they let us come in 20 minutes after their schedule closing time, but they let us bring in our puppy (we have a small 10 lb toy breed but still!) The owner was inside and talked in length with my husband about wine, grapes, the process, etc. I would like to say my husband and I are becoming wine afficionados. We have wine club memberships at 5+ wineries, a wine cellar with over 500 bottles and have made trips wine tasting throughout Michigan, Illinois, California and Europe. The tasting itself was wonderful. The wines (especially the whites) were fantastic and at such an amazing price point, we bought several bottles. The four of us (my parents did the tasting as well) had a fantastic time and we will definitely be back. P.s. Tastings are free if you just sample a few and five dollars if you want to do a full tasting selection, but that $5 is waived if you buy a bottle (which you should!) read more

This was a perfect stop on our drive from Grand Rapids to Chicago. We're from California and have been visiting dozens of time. Both my fiance and I love the wine. Awesome, just awesome..... We hit 8 different wineries in the area this weekend, and for my pallet and taste, this was by far my favorite. We found things we like and didn't like at every tasting we tried, until White Pine, and just loved every single wine we tried. Of course there were preferences and in my opinion some characteristics that were better than others variety to variety, but over all this was hands down the best. I'm not a sweet wine fan, so this wine maker was perfect for me. Great balance of flavors, some dryer than others, great high notes in some, long finishes in others. So again, a great mix of characteristics. The staff was great. We talked wine, wine making, what is unique to the region, what paired well with food and what is straight up drinkable. I was looking for something to pair with winter soups, like pumpkin, squash and such, the Reserve Riesling was spot on. Looking forward to making a pot and opening the bottle. White Pine Winery is exactly next to the Lazy Ballerina winery. Two wineries right next to each other might be the best idea ever. Don't go to one without going to the other, because they're both excellent. The White Pine had a ton of adorable wine home décor, especially those wine cork holder things.
