We called the board barn to get firewood delivered because we were running low on the wood we currently had. We expressed that there was a dire need for burnable wood for THIS SEASON. There was no mention of "this wood is green" or "this wood comes in giant block like pieces that need to be split."
Gabrielle, my significant other who ordered the wood stated on the phone that she saw what looked to be firewood in bags on their lawn and inquired as to if they were for sale. We were informed that they were and that they were ~$200 for three bags which equated to about a cord of wood.
Great! We will take three and they can be delivered after the new year.
Thursday December 28th, Gabrielle and I agree to see if we can order three more bags. Gabrielle calls to place the order as it's -22°. "Oh so you're calling because it's cold out and need more wood? We can do another three bags for you."
The wood was delivered that day, great. It was dumped mostly in a snow bank but I kind of expected that. There's a lot of snow. After the delivery driver leaves, I inspect the wood a bit closer. It's not seasoned, and the chunks are giant. Much larger than stove cut lengths of wood, and cubic.
HAD WE KNOWN or HAD WE BEEN INFORMED by The Board Barn that the condition of the wood was going to be as such, we never would have ordered it. We need wood to burn now. It's 3°F at the time I am writing this.
This whole transaction seems to be a money grab by the board barn, and for that reason I would not suggest anyone go there.
Upon calling The Board Barn to inquire as to why these details were not disclosed to us prior to purchase we were met with a wall of excuses. I finally took the call over and suggested that they be a bit more transparent with consumers that were in dire straits looking for wood to heat their home, which we were completely full disclosure about. I was then cut off mid sentence and told "Well I assumed you knew what you were buying."
Well, I thought we were buying some firewood. Not some fresh scraps from your mill that were cut down a few weeks ago. Now we are left with wood we can barely burn, and a Chimney that will need to be thoroughly douched come spring due to ALL THE CREOSOTE FROM THE GREEN WOOD WE WERE SOLD.
Thanks for taking our 400 bucks Board Barn. Word of mouth travels. Great business practices too. Talking down to your paying customers like we are some kind of psychics that can use remote viewing to see what condition the wood is in from the comfort of our home. read more
