The little shop is super cute, we are from out of state and decided to stop for a quick treat. The salted caramel ice cream tasted mostly of salt, I'm not sure if it was a bad batch or if this is the normal for the shop but it was basically inedible. The chips in the chocolate chip ice cream were amazing, the cream itself was decent. The cotton candy ice cream was mildly flavored, nothing exceptional. There are TONS of ice cream options from Fenwick to Ocean City, but they're all over crowded, over hyped, and overpriced. Blue Scoop has quickly become our favorite, even though it's not in either of our shore towns It's pretty quick and easy to get to from where my family and I stay, and they always have so many delicious flavors to choose from. My recommendations are the butter pecan, cherry vanilla (real, delicious cherries!), cookie dough, and mango sorbet. My daughter's go-tos are birthday cake and butter brickle. We're both fans of the sugar and waffle cones, but next time have our eyes set on putting a scoop or two on top of the giant brownies they sell at the shop. Butter brickle on a brownie with a caramel drizzle? Yes, please! And they're VERY generous with the scoops -- we always order one scoop, because they typically give you two. (If you order two, be prepared to eat three, etc.) They don't make the ice cream on site, but it is made by a local dairy farmer (the kids behind the counter couldn't say where or what the name of the dairy was). Enjoy your ice cream in the shop or at some of the Adirondack chairs outside (outside seating is limited, though.) There's plenty of parking since it shares a lot with Harris Teeter, a liquor store, a bank, and a restaurant, and there's even some bike parking if you want a workout before enjoying a delicious scoop or three. read more

For my last two birthdays, a friend of mine ordered an ice cream cake. It was very good. One of my best friends came last weekend. I was told the favorite flavors were Cookie Dough and Peanut Butter. I can imagine when I called, the owner was leery when I suggested 1/2 of each. She didn't comment. It was accomplished with Peanut Butter swirl on one half and Cookie Dough other divided by crushed Oreos. Everyone who had some stated this was the best ice cream cake they ever tasted. My friends from NOVA didn't want the home made cheese cake (it was good too) but for subsequent nights-- they choose the ice cream cake. Give it a try. This is a great local ice cream shop. The selection was great and they offered many different cone options. The offerings are locally sourced which makes it more authentic than other shops. Our quest during our vacation in Ocean City was to try a different ice cream place daily and see how they compared. And, yes, we realize that The Blue Scoop is not in Ocean City. However, we don't mind a bit of a drive to get some quality ice cream. As it happens, The Blue Scoop was the most excellent ice cream we ate on vacation. Don't get me wrong - other places are definitely worth visiting, such as Justine's for creative shakes, and Dumser's for that old-fashioned soda fountain feel. But if you want pure and unadulterated high-quality ice cream take the drive to The Blue Scoop. Every flavor is fantastic - just the right amount of sweetness and creaminess - and they let you sample them to your heart's content. Be warned, however. We were lucky to get there during a lull. About ten minutes later the place was swarming with people. Apparently word has spread about the awesomeness of this ice cream. If you are in OC, don't be intimidated by the short drive to Delaware - go to The Blue Scoop and experience ice cream nirvana. read more
