They just have really good ice cream! The counter folks are very polite and have no problem offering samples of the varied flavors. I usually always order what I sampled. This visit was the Bourbon Caramel Crunch. The decor is Beachy and cozy at this location. It is a very narrow building. They have a garden like seating area in the side alley. Some of the best ice cream I've had in a while! Classic mom and pop, rich and creamy dessert. They make the flavors in house and the chocolate peanut butter flavor was unbelievable! The peanut butter and jelly wasn't my favorite, so would skip that one next time but will definitely be back to try more flavors. read more

This place has absolutely delicious ice cream! It may seem like a great place to stop on your way to Ocean City and that would be a mistake. The reason I say this is if you stop here first, as we did, then you'll be disappointed by ANY ice cream place at the beach. However, if you stop there on the way home from the beach, as we did, then you'll get great ice cream while still being able to appreciate the likes of Dumsers. Anyway, I loved their butter pecan. It had large chunks of pecans in just about every spoonful and the ice cream had a lovely buttery sweet pecan flavor. I also liked the pairing of their coconut and orange cream ice creams. On the flip side, I wasn't crazy about their rum raisin and I guess you can't like everything. The consistent themes across all the flavors I tried was richness, creaminess, and full, natural flavors. And, thinking back, it may not be that the rum raisin was bad as much as that I liked the other flavors so much more. read more

An outstanding ice cream shop in Berlin, MD that's highly deserving of the Yelp 2025 Top 100 Ice Cream stores in the US! I recently went to Island Creamery on a weekend trip with my wife and loved my experience. We went in the middle of the day, which I highly advise, as the line gets long on summer weekend evening. We were able to order immediately and were able to sample a couple of flavors. Island Creamery has over 30 flavors, including more than 10 season flavors. I got the chocolate peanut butter and caramel bourbon in a chocolate waffle cone. The scoops were so big that Island Creamery put the cone in a paper bowl so they didn't fall. The price was incredibly affordable (less than $8 total including tax and tip), and the ice cream was phenomenal. The scoops were rich and creamy, loaded with flavor, and perfectly blended. The homemade chocolate waffle cone was fresh, crunchy, and loaded with chocolate flavor and hints of cinnamon. I would highly recommend Island Creamery if you're visiting Assateague Island or Ocean City (20 minutes away from both)! read more

Impossibly cute ice cream shop in an impossibly cute town! The service is always friendly and patient. The flavors never disappoint. You can ask to try flavors too, so definitely check out signatures like Pony Tracks and Salt Marsh. Allergen note: They offer vegan vanilla, as well as some dairy free sorbet flavors (blue raspberry is a hit). Don't forget the homemade waffle cones! I love their little outside side seating area. With faux palm trees, string lighting, and colorful seating. It's a must when we're in town. read more

Delicious flavors and ample selection! The service was fast and friendly, even with some slower customers in front of us trying a million flavors and not being super timely with actually paying once they got rung up. The outdoor area is super cute with ample seating, and they've done a good job of making sure you have a plate with your melting ice cream to keep the area (and you) mess free. Snickers cheesecake is a little sweeter than the bourbon and butter pecan is better than a lot of home made venues. Yiu can add additional nuts if preferred. I went to the Salisbury location in Maryland and the Java jolt was absolutely the best flavor ice cream I have ever tried in my life. I drove 43 miles just to get this and I will do it again. Great flavors with great portions for a great price! Lots of unique flavors to choose from. Ice cream was super creamy and I was pleasantly surprised how much I received with my order. During our re-visit to Berlin on a Monday, all the tea and dessert eateries were either closed or the one that opened closed at 3 pm. So, we visited Island Creamery which had milkshakes (they will make them thin on request) and so many flavors of ice-cream. We had a strawberry milkshake and single scoop sundae with vanilla ice-cream. Generous portions which we could not finish. Strong recommendation and plus for the owner diversity hiring. read more

I tried the Snickers cheesecake and it was vanilla ice cream with a swirl of caramel and peanuts. I ordered one scoop and it was a very large portion! Worth the price and pleasantly surprised. Located right on the Eastern Shore, Island Creamery sits in a neighborhood where time has stopped still. Charming antique stores and soda shops line the streets, but this family-owned ice cream shop should be everyone's first stop when visiting Chincoteague. The ice cream is made in small batches daily using the buttermilk from Lancaster Cows so the result is rich and creamy. Locally grown fruit and other premium goodies are mixed in for an addictive treat that you just stop eating. I went for one scoop of their Iced Nirvana (Espresso ice cream with chocolate chunks and fudge swirl) in a waffle cone and was met with about fifty baby scoops tucked in a freshly baked cone. It was absolute perfection! At $4.75 per waffle cone, it's a great price considering what you get. Service is phenomenal, you are met with a smile as soon as you walk in and you will be sure be smiling when you walk out -- this place just brings feelings of happiness all around. They also take allergies seriously -- one girl in the party behind me had a peanut allergy so they made sure to use a fresh scooper in a new ice cream tub just for her. Tastings are also highly encouraged, my second favorite flavor is the pineapple upside down cake. It was so unique and tropical tasting! The store is small but they have a brightly decorated alley way next to the store with plenty of chairs for you to enjoy your treat. Happy eating! read more

On the road to Assateague or Ocean City, you can find a local ice cream shop serving unique and delicious flavors for the whole family (including your pup). We came here for a sweet tooth night cap after dinner and beers @ Burley Oak, best decision ever! They are vegan, gluten-free friendly with bold flavors as well as classics for their whole family. We had the Island Mud which is your classic milk chocolate and I had the cantaloupe. The "mud" was fantastically creamy perfect with whipped cream and cherry. The cantaloupe was the standout! Fresh tastin thanks to the ever present ripe fruit flavor, and at the same time creamy! Reminds me of the melona bars if you know what I'm talking about! Perfectly balanced! The best part of it was the excellent service we received! Despite the long line and orders coming through on Saturday night, the young ladies moved fast to sling ice cream!! They were very sweet and patient! Even offered my pup a pup cone!! Love it!! Tips: accepts card and cash! Parking in mostly empty lot just a block away. No street parking. Very nice small ice cream parlor with a good selection of unique flavors. I appreciate they have one entrance door on the street and an exit on the side alley way where there is outdoor seating. Keeps the flow going. They have a variety of options of what you can get although when I was there their blenders were out of order so no milkshakes. Island Creamery sets the standard for an amazing ice cream experience. The flavors range from some of the reliable, like vanilla, to some of the more creative, like Absolutely Nuts (praline ice cream with caramel swirl and a bunch of chopped nuts - really good!). My wife and I were in the mood to splurge, so we tried the Round Up sundae which allows for up to five different scoops and we could try a whole bunch of flavors. It was all delicious. My favorite was probably Cherries Jubilee, with cherries soaked in brandy (it was definitely noticeable, but not overpowering). In times of COVID-19, they are doing a great job to keep clientele safe. A board with all flavors and combinations was outside the entrance. We were greeted at the door by a masked young lady who took our order. She was able to surreptitiously signal to her coworkers during the whole time and so they could get everything ready faster. They ushered us in to pay, then had us wait in the alley where there are marked off seats socially-distant waiting. Only a few moments of waiting and they came out with our ice cream. The order was fast, the ice cream delightful, and the service super friendly and safe. I can't wait to go back! read more

We opened on Chincoteague Island in 1975. Our Berlin store, managed by family members Drew and Jen, opened on Main Street in April of 2017.

We arrived around 7:30pm and the lines were fairly long. I figured I could browse the menu while in line and would be ready to order when the time came. Well, I was wrong. The line moved incredibly quickly. I went with a basic chocolate and vanilla swirl with hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry. I felt like before I could even finish ordering I was being handed my sundae! Portions were large and the ice cream was very good. After we finished, my mom got back in line to order my dad's sundae with hot fudge, whipped cream, and his favorite topping, wet walnuts. Once again the line only took a few minutes. We got his sundae home only to find out they forgot his wet walnuts. Even without the wet walnuts the sundaes were a hit! Large portions, great ice cream, and a classic shore-town ice cream stand vibe. We'll definitely be back during our next stay in Berlin.

Luckily, the band was playing outside and none of this impacted our experience inside at the bar. The beertenders were friendly and efficient, especially with how busy Burley Oak was that night. I loved the atmosphere. It was a great venue to spend an evening. It felt like we were on a night out and there was a buzz in the air. Different from another local brewery we enjoy frequenting to relax and soak up some sunshine. We started at one of the hightop tables in the main taproom but moved to the end of the bar after a couple paid their tab and left. Burley Oak typically offers flights and single pours, but there were no flights that night due to the size of the crowd (completely understandable). We still were able to try multiple different beers and styles. I think my favorite was the Brown Butter Apple Pie, which indeed tasted like apple pie--delicious! I also had Sea Heathen, their Lime Lager (wasn't bad but I've had better), and a couple different IPAs. Their taplist featured something for everyone. If you or someone in your party doesn't enjoy beer, Burley Oak also offered mixed drinks, cocktails, and wine. My parents and I of course stuck with beer since we were at a brewery and enjoyed our selections. I also happened to get into conversation with the owner at the bar and he spoke to me like we were regulars. He was very personable, had a great sense of humor, and brought a bunch of energy. It was nice to see someone who was friendly and passionate about their business. We will be back to try more beer during our next stay in Berlin.

It is a little off the main road and it feels like a hidden gem. The girls working behind the counter were friendly and ready to answer our questions about the par baked frozen breads. My husband was very excited to get focaccia for baking at our beach condo. My kids each got a s'mores bomb. It was something of a cake pop, but tasted like it was maybe made with donut?!
