STRONG RECOMMENDATION - Repair Assistance at the Blind Doctor - Hunter Douglas Remote Controlled Battery Powered Blind Over Skylight April 5, 2022 Good day to the Blind Doctor and to Lee who assisted me with his Hunter Douglas blind repair issue. I want all your customers to be aware that I had the best customer service experience an individual can have at the Blind Doctor. My problem was not trivial. I had taken down a skylight Hunter Douglas Blind that was not working. It is not an easy undertaking (ladders, height, weight in the air, tensioners, alignment issues) and brought it into Calgary from Canmore. Blind repair is not simple and the parts and construction can be very complicated. The age of the blind is also a consideration as parts can be hard to locate and often are unavailable. This has been my experience. After explaining to Lee, the owner, what my predicament was the expensive blind was analyzed with curiousity, a brilliant attitude and actual detailed knowledge of the product. I was so impressed. Rather than put me off, or suggest a new expensive blind, Lee endeavoured to listen to my problem and offer solutions. So much so, that for about one hour he immediately took a complicated blind apart and expertly rebuilt a single problematic component, the tensioner on one side, and left it In working condition. I could never have done this. Too many special tools and special knowledge. He was concerned about the reliability of the older blind (2012) and insisted that I try it out first so he could uphold his customer service one year guarantee. Customers of the Blind Doctor should know the fantastic treatment I was accorded. We all repair household items of all sorts - Plumbing, HVAC, electrical, appliances etc. I have seldom had anyone help me in such a way and certainly not in recent memory when so many items are simply wastefully discarded or cannot be repaired. I took a 23" wide top down bottom up blind in after the cat chewed the string. Girls at the counter right away said likely the clutches would have to be changed without even looking at it at $50 each. I said it's just the strings that need changing as it worked fine prior. Get told it's $195 for 4 strings and two chord locks because they are causing the string to break. Lies. They were fine and I was skeptical that both were doing that at the same time. Go in to pick them up and I can see that one of them had not been changed. Owner gets angry quickly. He took $50 off, but because he lied about changing the part, I don't think the other one needed changing either. I don't trust them, nor will I return. read more

Had them cut down some blinds that were like 10 years old as they did not fit our new windows. Also had them fix some tilters. Good service. Knowledgeable people. Identified the risks with cutting them down with me before hand which was nice. Turned them around in 2 weeks. Would recommend to use them to fix blinds. read more

The level of customer service I have received from Samantha (The owner of the business) over these past few months has been appalling. I initially took my silhouette shades in to the Blind Doctor to be cleaned in May 2018. They came back damaged. Samantha agreed to replace them but then became MIA. Numerous attempts to contact her through email, voice messages and texts to both the business and her personal line went unanswered. I went down to speak to her in person and while I was there she was very accommodating in front of the other staff and customers, even going as far to say that replacements had been ordered and we were waiting on the distributor. And then nothing. After another series of unanswered calls, emails & texts I personally contacted the distributor and was told no such order has been placed. It was all a lie. I filed a complaint with the BBB as a last resort in hopes of a resolution, but once again, the business has failed to respond. Nearly 6 months later and nothing has been done to fix their error. I now have to pay to replace the damaged shades myself.I would never recommend this business to anyone. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. We hired the Blind Doctor to install blinds in our new home. We left messages for a week for someone to come do a quote and finally had to leave a hasty message about going elsewhere before I had someone phone back. This should have been our first red flag. We ended up ordering, and the majority were installed before Christmas(after a phone call to find out what was going on as there had been no communication, blinds had arrived a week prior but no one had contacted us). One blind broke hours after installation. We ordered a different type of blind for our bathroom and waited almost two months for installation after constant phone calls/emails that were not returned. They came once with only one blind and stated the other was back ordered. Very evident that it was never ordered as it took so long to arrive. Finally after four months we had the second bathroom blind installed. We are still waiting for our basement blind to be repaired but have repeatedly been told its back ordered, but I have given up hope and am not wasting anymore of my time on this. It has been almost six months of trying to track down Samantha and getting absolutely nowhere. She will not return phone calls and when I have managed to nail her down(by refusing to give my name and blocking my number) she makes promises of calling back in thirty minutes and never does. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. Stay away. read more

While front desk staff and blind work is good, I would avoid this business. They texted me to say my blinds (which were being cleaned) were ready for pick up. They provided hours to pick up. As my blinds were for a very large window and they were an hour away, I had to plan to go pick them up. Upon arriving we discovered they were closed. The only notice of this closure was a piece of paper on their window. When I texted to explain what happened they told me they were closed on holidays (but it wasn't a holiday). Then they said they were closed Sunday (but it was Saturday). I expressed frustration and asked them to drop them off at my home when next out this way. They said they would charge me $75. Not acceptable to me, I had to AGAIN make arrangements to go get them. Upon arriving, I asked to speak to a manager about their mix-up (they texted me the wrong hours).He was incredibly rude and denied doing so. Showing him the text, he still insisted that their hours of closing were accurate regardless of what I was texted and out of nowhere he then threatened to rip out the strings of my blinds if I didn't like it. I said I was going to report his business to online media review sites, and he said to go ahead because the bad press doesn't affect him/his business. He was not sorry for the text mistake or offer any sort of discount. I felt extremely powerless and upset. I didn't feel heard and wondered if this is his practice (reading reviews NOW I've come to realize there is a pattern!) I have never been so humiliated by a business owner - nor has anyone gone 0-60 so fast and threatened to destroy my property (over a silly mix up really). In front of me, a woman was also complaining about a warranty issue. This same company was trying to charge her additional money for something (on top of the Hunter Douglas Warranty) that should not at all have been added on top. He was equally being rude to her. She was on the phone with a real estate agent trying to confirm the blinds were covered under the warranty and explaining how this company was trying to charge her. In the office beside me, another family was speaking to another female manager. This office is small and on a random day, it appeared to my eye 3 different people were all upset at the same time. What are the odds of that? Bottom line? I've realized only NOW there is a reason this company is a 1 out of 5 on many review sites. I should have read ahead and I regret dealing with them. I had several other blinds in the house I was cleaning. I was taking one or two in at a time as I didn't want to be without blinds on my windows all at once. I am so glad they only did 3 out of my 10 blinds as I would not have wanted to give this company any more of my business if this is how they treat ANY of their customers, OR stand by their work, warranties/products. read more

When we purchased our new home it came with some beautiful Hunter Douglas pirouette blinds, unfortunately the pull cord broke on the master bedroom blind. The Blind Doctor was recommended to us by the company that installed the Hunter Douglas blinds in our home. We took our blind down and took it over to them. They let me know that depending on whether they needed to order parts they should have it back to us in a week maybe two. I asked that once they knew to please give me a call and let me know, how long and an approximate cost. After the first week passed, I waited another couple days to call to see what was happening. The person who answered the phone couldn't find our blind and asked if she could call me back......no call back. I called again and "Oh yeah I did find it, we are waiting for part to come from Hunter Douglas, they should be here this week". I asked that they call me when their order came it so that I'd know when we could expect our blind back. No call back, another week. I call back again and "No sorry your part didn't come in the order, we're not sure why, it might be lost, we'll call Hunter Douglas and get them to ship it again." Another week later still no call back, frustrated I tried to call someone in charge. This person apologized for the confusion but said that Hunter Douglas couldn't recognize the part from the photos that they sent (as the information sticker was missing from our blind) that it would need to be shipped to Hunter Douglas in Ontario to be repaired. I said I'd check one of our other blinds to see if there was a stick on it. There was, we emailed a photo of the sticker, they said excellent we'll get the part ordered right away. Week later, I get a call sorry they can't ship the part we need to send the blind to Hunter Douglas to be repaired. Six weeks total I told them forget it I'd pick up my blind. When I arrived the woman at the counter was eating her mini pizza, fruit and pop (always great to have greasy fingers on your blind) she went to the back and got the blind (it was in pieces) and gave it to me (with attitude). I took the blind to Sheila's Drapery and she had it fixed in a week! RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE THEY DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND THE LIE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS!!!!!!!!! We found out from Sheila's that Hunter Douglas doesn't make the part anymore, and she was able to get a different part and got it fixed for us no problem. read more
