I was waiting for dinner at a restaurant close by. Since we had time to kill, I suggested checking The Blarney Stone. Funny enough, I've lived in the Outer Richmond for over a decade, but never checked this place out. My group of two got here on Saturday, June 1st around 8:30pm. It wasn't too busy, so we easily grabbed two seats at the bar. I got a Jameson while my friend got a Jameson & Ginger. Not sure of the price breakdown of the drinks, but our bill was $16, so maybe $8 each? (Do they charge extra for ginger ale?) The vibe of the bar is kinda divey, but has a neighborhood feel. We were literally only here for about 15 mins (the restaurant beckoned us after we ordered a drink), so we didn't have much time to check it out. We just downed our drinks and left. Our bartender was very nice and sweet though. Fun bar. Wouldn't mind coming back for another drink.

Great neighborhood bar! I love the bartenders, especially Tori. Plus it's dog friendly, so many cute doggies.

We had planned to watch the third place World Cup match (England vs France) and had initially looked into the Mad Dog in the Fog and Kezar Pub as plans A and B respectively. Both of them were charging a cover charge to come inside and watch the match, so we decided to look elsewhere. We encountered O'Reilly's and stepped inside to see if it'd meet our expectations. All I can say is that we're damn glad we did! Facts: * They do NOT serve/sell food. They are drinks ONLY. BUT, don't let that dissuade you from coming here. They're very lenient on you bringing in your own food to eat (granted you should also be courteous and buy something to drink here as well.), and there are some great food places within walking distance such as Escape from New York Pizza, Cha Cha Cha and even Whole Foods. * The owner is a great guy and is even Irish to boot! We had a great time shooting the breeze with him. There was one other employee working the bar as well who was friendly. * Prices, IMO, are reasonable for the drinks they serve. The pub got pretty crowded for the match, but the two employees had everything under control and seemed to be able to still bring people their drinks in a timely manner. We got pizza from Escape from New York down the street, and then washed it down with some Guinness here. (The Guinness was $10/glass.) Our drinks came fairly quickly. Overall, a great time was had by us and all, and, to make things even better, England won the match!! I've been to my share of British and/or Irish pubs, and, despite not serving any food, O'Reilly's is still one worth patronizing. Give it a shot! We started with their asparagus appetizer with pickled onion and a very nice aioli with trout and finely chopped walnuts. We're off to a good start with this very well thought out and composed dish. Came on a night when they serve their smashed burgers in brioche bun. It's beefy and flavorful. Very satisfying. The fries are probably twice fried. Crunchy and still retained a semi tender center. It's voodoo magic good. Also tried their sour dough pappardelle. It has a pretty pronounced fresh asparagus note. It's a very satisfying dish. The place has a cool vibe with the reclaimed wood (or maybe just old?) walls and not too brightly lit dining room. Bathroom was clean. Wait staff was professional and helpful. I wish I have it in me to try their desserts but I was already quite full. (No photos since I made all the food disappeared before the thought of photos popped into my head. Unfortunately, I left feeling like the experience simply didn't justify the hype or the price. To start with the positives, the pecan brioche sticky bun was genuinely delicious. At $8 it was hard to justify the price for the size, but the flavor was excellent. The smash potatoes were also very well done, crispy, flavorful, and easily one of the better items we ordered, even if $10 felt steep for the portion. Everything else, however, left us scratching our heads. My in laws ordered the breakfast sandwich, which starts at $17 without the sausage. Adding the sausage brought it to an astonishing $23, and honestly, it was a pretty average breakfast sandwich. We all agreed we could have walked a block over to Devil's Teeth and gotten something larger, more satisfying, and nearly half the price. We also ordered the fried mortadella sandwich, which came in at $18. It tasted fine, but at the end of the day it felt like an expensive deli sandwich that didn't do enough to justify the cost. The biggest disappointment was the Dutch pancake. At $20, we expected something memorable. Instead, it arrived overcooked around the edges while the center was an absolute runny mess. It was easily the weakest dish of the meal. The dining experience itself also felt a bit strange. We were a party of five, and were asked if we'd be willing to share our table in case another group of three came in. I understand restaurants trying to maximize seating, but it made the meal feel less comfortable than we'd hoped. The saving grace of our visit was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly, accommodating, and welcoming. They were the highlight of the experience and made us feel well taken care of despite our disappointment with the food. I can appreciate that Outerlands has built a loyal following over the years, but after this visit I just don't understand the hype. Between the inconsistent execution and the exceptionally high prices, it's difficult for me to justify coming back when there are so many other fantastic brunch spots in the Sunset offering better value.
