Dinner in Monument, Colorado... I wanted to take my sister to a nice place for her birthday. I searched my Yelp app and found: The Bistro On 2nd. I told her my plan, and she agreed right away. She had heard good things about this local restaurant and was excited! On the day of our dinner, I called the restaurant to make a reservation. They asked if we would be able to dine upstairs if the downstairs filled up... sure! Free parking in their private lot was much appreciated. We walked around to the front to get photos, but we could have entered the restaurant from the parking lot. The gals at the reception desk were friendly and greeted us right away. They offered us outside seats or indoor dining. We took a look at the inside seats and chose them because it seemed more cozy and it was air-conditioned. It was a wise decision because there was a passing shower that sent all outdoor diners inside! Wow! This restaurant appears to be a converted house. I peeked around upstairs, and it looked like two bedrooms were made into dining rooms. There was a restroom upstairs and one downstairs. Joshua was our competent, knowledgeable, and efficient server. He really knew the menu and gave great suggestions... like get the jalapeño sauce on the side! Thank you! We told Joshua that we were hungry and ordered: Bruschetta, Charcuterie Board, Local Watermelon Salad, Grilled Elk Tenderloin (with coffee rub), and the Special of the Day: Hangar steak (with peach glaze). It came with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Everything was delicious and presented beautifully! It was a perfect setting for my sister's birthday! She was really happy with the environment, service, and food! We'll be back!

We came to The Bistro on 2nd to celebrate some fantastic news. We made a reservation. When we got there we were greeted right away and taken to our table. The service was excellent, polite, friendly but somewhat reserved (not too much in our face). The atmosphere is nice with dimmed lighting ... but not so dimmed that you can't read the menu. It was quiet and serene. My wine was fantastic. My husband enjoyed his IPA. We started with a calabrian chili pepper and shrimp app. Loved it! Cooked perfectly with just such a nice heat level from the chilies. We both ordered the elk tenderloin and it was the best elk I've ever eaten. (I grew up rural in Idaho and ate a LOT of elk.) The elk was cooked beautifully, the flavors amazing and so cohesive. The brussel sprouts were so delicious with excellent textures. I could eat that meal every darn day! YUM!

My group of friends came here to celebrate a birthday and found the experience to be wonderful. Service was friendly and attentive, the food and drinks were tasty, and the ambiance warm. Starting with drinks, I was unable to drink alcohol at the time and asked for a mocktail. Our server described a drink that included lilikoi and a few other fruit juices. It turned out to be an incredibly delicious and I wish I had a recipe for it! Our table shared the bacon wrapped stuffed dates, fried brussel sprouts, and the watermelon salad as starters. The sweet was of the dates along with the strawberry compote and balsamic reduction went well with the creaminess of the chèvre and savoriness of the bacon. My one nit here would be that parts of the bacon were a bit hard and chewy. The fried brussels were also well done with crispy exterior bits and soft interior bits. The watermelon salad was a refreshing option to counteract the richness of the other two starters. Half our group got the pappardelle and the other half got either the elk or the filet mignon. The meat options were all very tender. The ancho coffee rub added a nice smokiness to the elk. The pappardelle was also really good. Can't really go wrong with fresh pasta, pesto, tomatoes, mozzarella, summer vegetables, and a balsamic reduction. If you're looking for a good place in or around Monument, you can't go wrong with bistro on 2nd.

Everything here is absolutely amazing, from the intimate seating, great staff, great outdoor seating, and the menu and food are freaking top notch! It's now my favorite restaurant in the Colorado Springs area. You definitely want to come here!

This restaurant is absolutely fantastic. We stopped in here having no idea. This would be such an exquisite dining experience. Truly fine dining. The chef has put a lot of thought into the dishes. We had the brussels sprout appetizer. The best I've probably ever had at any restaurant in my life. Not soggy. Quite tasty. The dates and the bacon are just the right touch. My wife had the pans your chicken. Not heavy or rich at all. Potatoes were fantastic. And the roasted tomato was fantastic. I had stuffed pork loin. The stuffing was perfect sort of a cornbread mash with chopped jalapeños and seasonings. On the side were roasted potatoes along with roasted arugula season with a candid jalapeño sauce. Not heavy at all. Extremely tasty.

Filet with mashed potatoes & asparagus

This has been on my list to check out since it's close to home and has good reviews. We started with the heirloom tomatoes and mozzarella. It was on grilled bread and while the flavor was good, eating it was not. It was too tough to really cut or bite through the bread. Causing a bunch of the topping to fall off. All three of us had the filet, so I can't speak to any other entrees. Without fail, I always get the filet with the fat or tendon piece! The filet was tender, but about 1/4 of mine was inedible stuff. My son ordered medium rare and his was more rare than my husbands or mine and we ordered rare. I'm not a huge mashed potato fan, but they were pretty tasty. We each had two huge spears of asparagus that were okay. All three of us said we'd give it three stars. This includes a 14 year old and we all know their standards aren't that high! It's in an old house and there are multiple small dining rooms, so it's definitely not private.

Marinated tomato & burrata bruschetta (left) and Calabrian peppers & shrimp

I had a chance to visit this cute bistro yesterday (6/22/2021) and had a wonderful experience so I must write about it. This place is situated on the main 2nd Street in Monument which will be like the next Castle Rock (as it is a growing residential area) in my opinion. It's got a great ambiance with good amount of seating inside and outside. It's charming may not fully describe this place's lovely Euro atmosphere. This place may look like a restaurant for wine lovers (and it actually is) but they do have an extensive drink menu (beers to mules to other hard liquor cocktails, you name it.) The only thing I can state in this review as a suggestion is that I wish it had a larger food menu. It'd be nice to see at least one more item added to the main/entree section. We ordered marinated tomato & burrata bruschetta and calabrian peppers & shrimp (both of them are appetizers) to accompany our drinks and they were a good portion for their prices and were delicious. If you want to take a break from the busy city's hustle bustle and dine at a quiet, quaint restaurant with a great ambiance then this is the place for you.

We ordered 1/2 dozen oysters, elk tenderloin (our favorite), aged Waygu steak, scallops, waygu tartare, mushrooms, and whipped potatoes, along with 3 out of 5 desserts. Plating is excellent now compared to earlier reviews and pricing did not bother us. Plenty of parking including handicapped. Staff / service was excellent giving us a rundown of the menu immediately/asking for dietary restrictions. Everything came out well-paced, again we did not have any problems unlike previous reviews. Waitress was a little nervous but giving her grace since it was the first week! Free appetizer, dessert truffles, gift, and upstairs dessert/drink upstairs were a wonderful touch. The fried cheese is very different from your other standard cheeses or mozzarella sticks. The cheese is much more firm with a light fry. The cup of bacon is fatty, salty, with a tiny bit of sweetness. The ricotta gnocchi bolognese has some amazing fresh gnocchi. The bolognese sauce was okay so it's a fine dish but I probably wouldn't get it again. The duck poutine has delicious fresh fries that end up crisp topped with tons of cheese and gravy. Not a lot of duck, but a great poutine overall. Every item is always a treat and unique and makes me want to try the whole menu.

I went solo and decided to sit at the bar where they had three bartenders that would rotate with all the customers making it very efficient and great coverage. The food was very inventive; not your typical fare even for a bistro. I started with the lobster tater tots that were served with ranch. He had the perfect amount of seafood flavor and a super crispy outer; I would recommend. Next, I had the ginger pork and crispy rice dish. This had a large helping of pork that did well with the Asian flavors and that crispy rice for texture; I would recommend. My final was the miso butterscotch tart. You can't go wrong with a dessert that has butterscotch, Biscoff, marshmallow and miso. The only criticism I could make was that the tart was pretty loose, but that did not take away from the flavor. To drink this place has lots of beer taps, a good selection of wine and plenty of interesting cocktails. I chose to have a couple beers and they were both very tasty. I would like to come back with additional people so that we could try more of the menu items. Unfortunately, it is an hour away from where I live, but the next time I find myself down in the springs, I will return.

On arrival she received a birthday card signed by staff which was such a cute gesture. As for food , most was great, not all. French onion soup was fantastic! I appreciated the authenticity with correct cheese . Very flavorful and rich. Steak was well seasoned and cooked well, a bit over done but due to delicate cut , it melted in my mouth. It was delicious. The horseradish sauce would be great if there wasn't ( what I think that was) blue cheese. I happen to dislike the blue cheese. Luckily it wasn't too overpowering. AuGratin potatoes were a miss for me . Wrong texture. They were more like mushy, baked mashed potatoes rather than potatoes sliced thinly . Flavor was ok but I disliked the texture . As for Cesar salad, unfortunately, the lettuce was not crisp and fresh . It was wilted and soggy. Desert ( complementary for birthday) was pretty tasty. The service was also fantastic. We went for my belated birthday since I've been out of town all month and they even write you a card! It was very nice. They lose a star at the food only because our salad was slight wilted. I just feel as though places should take things off their menu if the produce is bad. Other than that, it was great. Caesar Salad: Wilted lettuce but had good flavor and good bites with the lettuce that wasn't turning bad. 6/10 French Onion soup: So tasty! I love that they don't cheap out on the cheese, it really was gruyère. The broth was really tasty too, a little italian season heavy but i honestly enjoyed that. 9/10 "Au Gratin" Potatoes: I think my party and I expected it to be a more traditional au gratin with sliced potatoes, it was more of a really lumpy mash. It also had some kind of gorgonzola or something, we don't hate that flavor profile but they should disclose that on the menu haha 3/10 (only because we wanted a classic au gratin) 8 oz filet: Cooked well, great sear! Again there was blue cheese or something in the side sauce which i didn't order but got charged for lol. It was only $5 and i don't mind blue cheese but disclose that on the menu!!!! Butter Cake: This is there the rating goes to 4.5 because it was free for my birthday! Never had butter cake before and I will say it's not my favorite(they did it really well though). The vanilla ice cream and blueberry compote were the highlight. It was still a tasty dessert. 8/10 It's a nice place to have dinner and watch the sunset if you have a reservation around that time!

Our waiter was kind but quiet and unenthused; he seemed rushed. Some other service team members came to clear plates throughout the meal, all without saying a word. But all of our orders were correct. Food: 3/5 Some parts of the meal were very pleasant, while others were disappointing. I ordered the Avocado Crab Salad with my meal, and it was delicious: a generous portion of crab, and a really unique and tasty ginger dressing. My main meal was the "Box A," which was a combo platter of teriyaki beef, some assorted tempura, rice, and a California roll. This was more disappointing than the salad: the tempura is BLAND. That may be traditional, I don't know; but there's no need to stick to traditions if they don't taste good. The batter was downright flavorless, and tasted like nothing except the oil it was fried in. The teriyaki beef had a nice flavor to it, and the meat was cooked nicely, but the portion was small for the price, and sat on a massive bed of shredded cabbage to inflate its appearance. The sushi was pretty run-of-the-mill, nothing notable about it either way; I did like the sticky rice. Overall, this place is just average, but you're not paying average prices for it. I can't give this restaurant any more than a 3/5 when I know Jasmine Gardens is 5 minutes away, and Nana's Dim Sum is 10 minutes away.
