And they also had a pretty economical deal going that evening - I think a Tuesday and for Australian standards that was the bargain. So why 3 stars? Well firstly the seagulls. At first it's pretty cool they come up close and you are feeling closer to nature - but then they get kinda aggressive ! Scarily so - they were attacking my friend - no joke and am pretty sure plucked a few prawns off his pasta bowl. So that was strange but memorable ;) And most people at this intersection of restaurants by the coast are to be fair tourists because they want to see the penguins - and we were guiltily the same. Happy customers means tasty food. Spiro's Fish & Chips have all of that. Soft, fleshy flake on the inside & crispy batter on the outside. Very tasty seafood & fried dimmy's. They seem to be a rather busy shop, but they work like a well oiled machine to get your food out to you!

This is one of the busiest fish and chip shops I've ever stepped foot in. But saying that, I've…read morenever waited longer than 20 minutes for my delicious, paper wrapped bundle of goodness. My latest visit was with a ratbag bunch of mates whereby 15 of us all made individual orders. I opted for the salt and pepper calamari pack which came with salad and chips. I was expecting one of those lame mesclun salad with one piece of tomato and one piece of cucumber. Not the case. It was a perfect portion of shredded (!) cucumber, onion and tomato on a bed of clean spinach leaves and a punchy dressing. The calamari was real, fresh and huge! I'm talking pieces the size of your hand covered in a salt and pepper powder (not floured). All of this with the addition of a bed of golden chips below. Oh yeah! There is plenty of seating inside and out, with the outside bench seats offering a view on to the waterfront which is stunning during sunset!
