The Porchetta heavily relied on the pork and the sear, seasoning and proper cooking of the meat. It pulled apart easily, had a nice thin crust on it and was plenty tender while also juicy. The arugula was a good balance and helped keep the cheese in place. The bread was perfectly toasted and crusty but absolutely fresh like a good hoagie should be. The Cubano had seasonings ON the panini pressed bread that were on point with the rest of the flavor profile of the sandwich. The balance between the mustard, pickles, and seasoned bread accentuated the meat instead of covering it up. Everything tasted and felt incredibly fresh and we look forward to our next stop here when we are in town.

The tortilla chips stale (new ones cooked for us), Falafel wrap stale and falafel balls hard. Requested crispy fries, they were limp. Our bill for 3 meals, 1 app and 4 ice teas was $93. Before tipping. None of us realized or were reminded that french fries were additional 6.50 to our sandwiches. Many restaurants have sandwiches which come with fries so we unfortunately presumed this when asked what side we wanted. Ice teas were $4 each-no free refills which also seemed high. Overall not a great experience.

And they have free wifi which is great for working remotely. I also would love to say the service is fantastic. I don't know the name of the girl who served us but she was so friendly. And the drinks came out super fast! We got one of the energy drinks and a mocha. The energy drink was really good (very similar to a Rush at aroma joes!) and my dad enjoyed the mocha. But here is my only complaint.... The scones are not great. I think it is nice that they have a wide variety of pastries. But the scone (blueberry white chocolate) was both super dry and overly sweet. I couldn't even finish it. It was honestly reminiscent of crumbl cookies. So if you like sickeningly sweet scones (like the cookies at Crumbl!), then this would be great. I've had scones like this where it is balanced, but I fear this was too much and I probably won't get a scone here the next time I come. Otherwise, this spot is really cute and I highly recommend checking it out!

I ordered the loaded sausage omeletee ($14.99). This came with choice of home fries or beans (I opted for the home fries) and toast (I opted for rye). This arrived w/in 5 minutes of ordering. The portion size seemed reasonable, and everything tasted simple, savory, and homely. I would ask for nothing more at a quiet neighborhood diner (and one attached to a convenience store, at that). Service proved pleasant, with coffee proactively topped up. The waitress offered to fill up a to-go cup of coffee at no extra cost as I settled the bill . As an aside, one of the parties waiting for a table came straight from the Sig store & range. I imagine that events or competitions there would lead to a surge of patrons.

We were told to take any table since they were all clean. As the server handed us menus, she noticed the table actually wasn't clean, apologized, and wiped it down. No problem--things happen. Unfortunately, from that point on we were completely ignored. For more than 15 minutes no one came to our table, even though servers walked nearby several times. Meanwhile, people who came in after us were getting drinks and placing orders. Rather than make a scene, we simply left. If the place had been busy or short-staffed we would understand, but that didn't appear to be the case. Being ignored like that is unacceptable. Hopefully this was just a fluke and not the new norm.

There were affordable options with some higher priced dinners. There was an option for everyone in our party. I had the stuffed haddock covered with a seafood stew. I'm a little bit of a snob when it comes to seafood stuffing so I was a little hesitant to try it but OH BOY am I glad I did. The stuffing and stew were amazing! No leftovers for me. The rest of our party had various options off the menu and all of us were please with our meals. I highly recommend The Old Salt. A nice ambience. Friendly service. Great food. It took about 15 minutes for our order to be served, so not your typical "fast food". All in all, we enjoyed. The milkshake was delicious and old timey. The cheeseburger was a juicy and sloppy mess (in a good way), and did in fact remind me of in-out-burger. I felt it was the right size as well, and fairly priced. (Hello Five guys). The fries were mixed for me. Cooked to order, perfectly crispy and hot out of the fryer, so.... They were crinkle cut, which just isn't my type of fry. Insides were soft and tender and loaded with potato flavor. I am sure most would love them, but there is something about a crinkle cut fry that doesn't cut it for me :-( These seemed like legit hand cut fries as well. This is a "me" problem. We will return as I am anxious to try the hot dog. Hopefully some more staff will help speed the process up.

When we first walked in, we noticed that there was only one waitstaff in the front. She was killing it and doing her best, but it does upset me that she had to do it all herself. As someone who has worked in food service, I cannot imagine how exhausted she was. And how she is probably not paid enough to do all of this crazy stuff. Such as making milkshakes, taking orders (long lines), running back and forth from the front to the kitchen, bussing tables, etc. I have so much admiration for this woman. But this is kind of disgraceful... I also assume there's maybe two people working out back? Maybe one? The food took 40 minutes. For two burgers and fries. That is crazy for a "quick stop" restaurant. Let's dive into food... the burgers are very messy, but in the best way. Tip*** get them dirty. Then you get a secret sauce and griddled onions. The best way to eat a smash burger! Not shown, my mom loved the hot dog! The onion rings were also crispy and tasty. The fries were soft inside and crisp outside. Seasoned well. All in all, the food is fantastic. PLUS, the pricing is great!!! I used to love Lexie's but cannot fathom spending $12 for that. And it has gone downhill. Lee Frank's is giving them a run for their money!! Good!!! But all in all, it is sad that there is not enough help. With a properly run restaurant and good group of staff, this could be a great quick eats spot. It could be successful and finally stay in this building. I mean the turnover is crazy. Rooting for them. Once they get their shit together, I think this will be an Exeter favorite.
