tiki drinks for tom selleck's birthday
    Liz S.

Reading through the reviews I'm surprised to see so much negativity because The Bends is hands-down one of my favorite places in the area! We spent last NYE there and had a blast! There's always fun themed events going on and even when it's busy I've never had a problem with the service. The bartenders are attentive and do their best to serve folks in a timely manner. I've never waited an unreasonable amount of time for a drink. The drink selection is solid and full of fun mixed drinks and craft beers as well as your typical domestics. There's really something to suit anyone's taste. My only complaint is the bathroom situation. Only having one of each gendered bathroom is a bummer and the wait it sometimes really long and ends up crowding the hallway space.

    $5 for a beer and a shot!!

I am impressed with their $5 Shots and Beer. Super affordable! The decor was nice and they had a live band playing when I visited. Will definitely visit again when I'm in St. Pete!

2 stars overall. I really like the decor which I would go 5 stars on but the service is a 0. Truly a zero for service. On a early Friday night we stopped in based on reviews. After getting past the fog of cigarette smoke we made it to the bar. Not super packed so we found a place to order a beverage. In the 15 minutes that I waived my credit card, I was neither greeted nor even made eye contact with the one bartender that was working. The experience reminded me a little of Mastry's and I guess that's due to the smoke and some of the patrons. Either way, I'll be back again because it's impossible that the service is always that bad. An updated review soon....

Man, what a hidden gem DSTP has here. So hidden, in fact, that there is no sign. Just a huge hand-painted finger pointing down towards the front door. Then, off to the left inside the front door's threshold is a small aluminum sign that reads, "The Bends." It's pretty discrete. However, trust me when I tell you that plenty of folks know about it. This place was freaking PACKED. Were there hipsters drinking PBRs? It's DTSP, so naturally, but it wasn't an obscene. Otherwise, the crowd was pretty even in types of people, and they were all great to chat with. My buddy dragged La Chica and I here after the Beer & Tacos event down the street, and while he was directing us their, part of his actually instructions were, "Just past the homeless guy, there is a dumpster, turn left there." Right then and there, we knew we would like this place, and we did. A bit divey, but in a safe, younger crowd kinda way. You know what I mean! Large selection of cocktails ranging from shit they made up, all the way to old fashioned and sazeracs. And all of the drinks are stiff. Think of every ONE as TWO. Normally, I can pound them down, but I had to slow my roll here if I wanted to arrive alive. By the end of the night, I was drinking water. True story. So never mind the halfway house/motel across the street, the homeless folks asking for "bus" money at 1 AM, the dirt parking lot and it's grim appearance. Pull in, grab a beer or cocktail and ask about the framed Tom Selleck photograph above the register. It's story is interesting to say the least.

This place is the best. Friendly bartenders, great drinks at a good price. If I lived in St. Pete, I'd be here all the time.

Truly Unforgettable Culinary Journey at Red Thread…read more Our dinner at Red Thread was nothing short of spectacular -- a five-star experience from the moment we stepped through the door until the final sip of our after-dinner drink. We visited to celebrate a milestone birthday, and the team not only met but exceeded every expectation, weaving subtle, thoughtful surprises into the evening that made us feel truly special. The atmosphere is opulent yet completely approachable -- warm, intimate, and alive with cultural richness. You can feel the intention behind every detail: the plush banquettes adorned with intricately embroidered throw pillows, the soft glow of lantern-style lighting, and the perfectly placed gold-tipped cocktail picks that make even the smallest moment feel curated. It's elegant without pretense, like being welcomed into a beautifully kept secret along the Silk Road. Service was led by Katie and Elijah, who were nothing short of exceptional. Their warmth, precision, and deep knowledge of both the menu and the restaurant's rich aesthetic elevated the entire evening. They guided us with confidence, shared stories behind the dishes, and ensured every need was met before we even voiced it. Now, the food -- where do we begin? Red Thread delivers flavors that are bold, layered, and deeply authentic. We started with the spread and small bites platter, and it was immediately clear we were in for something extraordinary. The tabbouleh was bright and herb-forward, with finely chopped parsley, tomato, and bulgur kissed by lemon -- a perfect balance of freshness and zing. The falafel were golden-crisp on the outside, tender within, and served with a bright mint yogurt. So delish! For our mains: the salmon, seasoned with fragrant za'atar and resting atop creamy spanakorizo (spinach and rice), was cooked to buttery perfection. The addition of crumbled feta and a cooling lemon yogurt sauce brought a bright, tangy contrast that elevated every bite. The pork chop, served with tri-color potatoes and glazed in a rich port beurre rouge with rosemary and a whisper of parmesan, was magnificent -- juicy, deeply savory, and beautifully seared. And the beef short rib? Unbelievably tender, with a warm curry base, sweet-spicy melon kimchi, and saffron rice that perfumed the air. The cardamom chèvre melted into the mix, adding a creamy, floral depth that was nothing short of inspired. Every dish told a story -- of distant lands, ancient trade routes, and a chef who clearly treats spice like sacred heirloom. To know these flavors are crafted with spices imported directly from the regions that inspired them explains the unmatched authenticity in every bite. Red Thread stands alone in St. Petersburg -- not just in flavor, but in feeling. We'll be back -- no question -- to explore their brunch and dive deeper into this beautiful narrative they've created on a plate. To everyone reading: This is the kind of restaurant that deserves to be discovered, celebrated, and filled to capacity every single night. Go. Taste. Feel. Red Thread isn't just dinner -- it's a journey. And it's not to be missed.

It is a really cool spot to watch football, especially since there aren't a ton of sports bars in that area of downtown St. Pete. I love how casual it is. They're loud, the patrons get rowdy, the waitresses are tougher (and definitely hotter) than me, and if it's not a Boston or New England team, I simply don't care. BUT... Localz changed my mind. Either I'm evolving, or Localz is just operating on a different level entirely. First off, our server- pretty sure her name was Haylee- was an absolute sweetheart. Warm, welcoming, and somehow managed to brighten up one of the most miserably rainy afternoons of my winter. She recommended the Steak & Cheese Tots for me and the Porky Pig Tots for my buddy. And listen... I've been eating tater tots since my juice-box years, but these? These were the crispiest, most perfectly executed tots I've ever had. Not one soggy tot in the entire mountain. It was like the Michelin Guide of tots. Localz is now the gold standard, and everyone else is a distant second. Sorry, I don't make the rules. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu, but as far as St. Pete sports bars go? Localz is officially my new go-to spot.
