Come to St Pete Beach every year, but first time going to Riptides. We went out later in the night a couple times, so we didn't eat, but it has a cool atmosphere, friendly staff and welcoming locals. I went here Saturday night trying to shoot some pool and have a drink. For whatever reason they decided to close the bar over an hour and a half before closing time. Mind you I just spent so much money playing songs in the jukebox and no one offered to give me my money back. The guy actually looked at me like he was disgusted when I told him what are you doing? The bar is open for another hour and a half didn't even say a word to me. When you have listed hours people expect you to be open. read more

GREAT local dive bar! It's open 7 days weekly from 1 PM till 3 AM. While we were there, patrons ranged in age from their mid 20's to 50's. My "date" lives just a block away & stops in at least once weekly. Everyone was friendly, including the two bartenders. Drinks were not watered down and our final tab was LOW-- apparently that's the norm. Current ALL DAY EVERYDAY SPECIALS include: $3 Fireball, $5 Jameson, & $3.50 Kettle One & Flavors. Current DAILY SPECIALS are as follows: Monday-- $3 Captain, Tuesday-- $3 Jager, Wednesday-- $4 Tito's, & Thursday-- $2.50 Smirnoff & Flavors, as well as $2.75 Deep Eddy Flavors. There is NO FOOD SERVED; however, there's a great pizzeria next door (Vito & Michael's) that's open very late & a Thai place a block in the other direction. Food is allowed into this establishment. HAPPY HOUR is Monday thru Friday from 1 PM to 6 PM, & from 10 PM to close. Our drinks were served in Styrofoam cups. There's a pool table along w/ three video games (if I counted correctly). There is a large wall TV @ the end of the bar; we semi-watched an NBA playoff game. This business's Facebook page has posts about the telecasted sports shown here & the alternative hours for special events. This is a rather small bar w/ a Cheers (TV sitcom) feel. What's especially nice are the lack of exterior windows and even a door; there are openings in the wall for the outside breeze to complement the ceiling fans. On such a blazing hot evening, the bar remained cool. This is where you come to experience the local flavor. Be prepared to be approached by strangers. Seriously, everyone was friendly. We were entertained by a couple of handsome 40-yr-olds who share a love of music. Will definitely return when in the area again. Nothing fancy here, but the cheap booze & friendly, local patrons were big turn ons. This is my type of place to unwind! Parking is plentiful. read more

Cool little dive bar that was recommended to us by some locals in the area. Bartenders were friendly and we were able to get three dollar kettle one drinks on a Saturday night. They allow dogs and smoking which made the play seem a little congested, but this is my type of dive bar. I would definitely go back. read more

I recently moved from the East side to the West side of St. Pete peninsula and have been searching for my local favorites. Riptide's service has always blown. They make patrons feel like they're a pain to serve a drink... apparently the bartenders forgot they are in the SERVICE INDUSTRY which requires a level of cordiality in order for locals and tourists to return. I'll avoid this shit hole from now on. Try Sigwam, Parrot Bar, Mastry's or sitting at home. read more

Do not go here. I live one block from here. I drank here twice then showed up to have a good time and drink and watch football. I still had my NEW YORK STATE ID. She said she wasnt comfortable serving me. Would not say why. I am 24 years old and am a registered nurse. I came to have a good time. DO NOT GO HERE. Not sure if she has something against people from new york or just thinks i have a fake id, but its crazy. Do not go here, especially if your from out of state because she "might not be comfortable serving you". When i told her im a local nurse she laughed at me and said "well im a bartender". Good bar. I usually start at Sloppy Pelican and walk here.... parking lot looks a good size. It is a smoking bar, but it's very open so unless you're sitting next to someone smoking you're fine. They have a pool table, darts, and the bowling/golf game. Drinks are reasonably priced. Never a long wait for a bartender. It's off the main road so easy to find. read more

Decent beach bar to watch some sports and lots of TVs. Riptides has some outdoor seating. Overall the food is average and is typical beach bar food: Hotdogs, Pizza, Sandwiches, Chips & Salsa, etc. Riptides has good drinks specials, when I was there they had 5 for $12 buckets of Beer (Bud, Bud Lt., Miller Lt., and Coors Lt.), which is a good price in the St Pete Beach area. read more

Ok so my review is going to be a little IMO based the fact that this place was crazy smoke filled, cloudy with a chance of lung cancer! Yuck! I went he with my hair smelling like smoke. One thing if your goin to allow the dirty smelly killing things, at least get decent ventilation! Duh! Now for te positive, they have a fun bathroom with silly jokes and pictures posted everywhere...that was random. The fun parts were being there with friends playing darts with strangers, mostly locals and not so much tourists. They also had a pool table and plenty of people ready to challenge you to a game. This place is great! We just moved to St. Pete from North Tampa for fun beach bar experiences and were happy to find this place! The bartender was extremely nice and even gave us free "welcome to riptide" shots! Free "Scooby snacks are given to all bar goers which consists of gold fish, cheese its and many other goodies! Decided to come check this place out on a little trip up here for the firs time. Everyone was so nice from the guests to the bartenders. They have a great happy hour and everything is already dirt cheap. If you like dive bars and not spending a fortune this place is perfect!!! They also have a pool table and dart games. Left the bartender my credit card to start a tab for 2 Jamison doubles totaling $16. I then asked him to break a $20 bill for some quarters for pool games. He never ran my credit card for my drinks. This douche keeps my cash, winked at me, and said "Cash is king". He returns my credit card, gives me $2 cash and $2 quarters. If you don't believe how big of a "dick move" this was, you probably should read this review again. I was told Riptides is where you go for last call as they are the first bar open til 3am south of TI, where we are staying. Definitely a locals place, but since I'm a pretty good socializer, the locals warmed to us, and we were treated ok. We were there for football Sunday, and really had a good time. Looked like a carry in, and a very nice buffet was laid out, which we were strongly encouraged to participate. Getting drinks wasn't the easiest thing, but a minor inconvenience. I love this bar. It's far enough removed from the beach so you don't get the typical 'frat boy' beach crowd, drinks are cheaper than all the popular beach bars, and I adore the bartenders Johnny and Mark. They're sarcastic and funny and treat you like a friend. The crowd is younger and it's always lively on the weekends. Smoking permitted, there's 1 pool table, 1 dart board, and a couple arcade golf consoles. It's laid back and comfortable, and it has a pizza place next door open til 4 for those late night munchies. One of our FAVORITE bars in St. Pete Beach! Denise runs the bar for the day and early evening shift, she knows everyone by name and keeps the whole bar happy. Fuck this place! The bartender denied me of a WATER on my 23rd birthday because he didn't believe my ID. He asked me what county I lived in and when I responded with my county which is the same address as my ID he said no and walked away.
