Fell in love with the dance here. The owner really is a great teacher and understands the music. But it's all about her and her ego, don't try and do anything to help her succeed her back lash is viscous and evil. I primoted her busisness for four years to help her grow and the word spread anfter returning from a dance conference I was asked to leave the studio. Kindness mistaken for weakness. So she's a user, don't give her an inch she will take, snd take. read more

The Belly Dance Studio offers fun, fitness alternatives that strengthen both the body and mind. Our belly dance classes sculpt your figure while teaching the ancient art of raqs sharqi, or Middle Eastern dance. Our instructors are certified in fitness with the Tabata Bootcamp method. High Intensity Interval Training in an individualized, small group setting, our fitness classes are modified for ALL levels of fitness and are for Women only. One class is all it takes to get hooked into the Hip lifestyle.

History

Established in 2012.

The Belly Dance Studio was a dream in the minds of its staffers for years before becoming a reality. For the past two years, Michele Harrington, known in the belly dance community as Dilara Sultan, has been running an online magazine called HipMix.net. The magazine quickly became one of the fastest growing magazines dedicated to the world of Middle Eastern Dance, more commonly known as belly dance. As the two year anniversary of HipMix.net approached, it became clear that something bigger needed to happen in the town where HipMix.net called home. Though we had served for years to connect the online community of belly dancers, we decided to ask the talented belly dancers and fitness instructors we knew to come together in one uplifting environment to provide a much needed service for our local community. It was time to bring belly dance to Southeast Texas.

Meet the Business Owner: Michele H.

Michele Harrington grew up in Southeast Texas. After a family vacation to Epcot introduced her to the art of Belly Dance, she quickly sought out instruction. When her instructor moved to California, she began traveling A LOT to learn from some of the best instructors and choreographers in the industry. Both within the USA as well as internationally, Michele quickly made a name for herself as a leader in the industry... and that name is Dilara Sultan. Dilara has homes in both Beaumont, Texas and Istanbul Turkey, giving The Belly Dance Studio a unique position as an international leader in Belly Dance instruction.

The staff is friendly and welcoming and willing to help you out (if you're like me and couldn't figure out why your treadmill wouldn't work!). There is a separate women's workout area so those ladies who would prefer to can workout without feeling judged. Honestly though, don't be intimidated. There are people of all sizes and fitness levels at this gym and the one thing I've noticed is that while you may care that you're a sweaty mess, no one else does. The classes are so much fun, and again, remember that everyone was a beginner at some point. The instructors are available before and after class if you have questions or want to make sure you're doing a particular move correctly. They supply the extras needed for class, like yoga mats. Personal trainers are on hand (for a fee) for one on one instruction. During peak hours parking can get a little tricky, but you can always count the walk to your car from the gym as part of your workout! And since you can never find this info without going in person, I pay $54 a month to be a member. Double check for your own rate, but it's nice to have a starting point instead of guessing.
