A place for the true beer enthusiast, and those who just like beer. The owner is a fantastically friendly guy with a good sense of humor. Great place to purchase harder to find beers to go. For hanging out, they always have an amazing tap list and everything is fresh. I often order a pizza or some takeout and hang out in the back while having a couple pints. Some places have more taps, but who cares if they're serving mediocre choices. The Beer Authority is always serving the top tier. Don't be fooled by the dark interior (and yes, it's pretty dark), everyone that works there is friendly and knowledgeable. read more

Excellent hang-out tucked in on Lake City Way a block south of Fred Meyer. The beer selection here is spot-on. It's obvious Burc and company are passionate about beer and take charge in crafting a unique and delicious selection of both bottled and draft beer. Once again, an excellent visit. Beer Authority has a ton of great beer. We used a Groupon to get some great stuff including Space Dust, Hop Diggity and Epic Imperial IPA. We also got a growler full of Fort George Three Row IPA. The service was great and everyone in the store seems to constantly be in a good mood (odd for Western Washington). Great beer bar to hang out in. Music changes with each bartender. The best is Sunday evenings. Some of the bartenders have nice racks, especially the owner. Awesome tap selection, good service nice patio for the 2 weeks we have sun and cool customers. Very dog friendly. You might even get lucky and see the largest dog in the world! read more

This place is basically Cheers of Lake City Way. A place where everybody knows your name. Seriously, I moved into the apartments above in September and the owner, Burk, knew my name after visiting twice. The selection cannot be beat. The staff is knowledgeable and honest. After visiting a few times with the same bar tender they know what you like and don't like and can make a great new recommendation. They have a note card system so that if you get to 100 beers you get a customized mug! Sure there is no food, but Gyro Hut is right next door, and that is delicious! Also the prices are always in whole dollars and not expensive, making it easy to pay in cash. read more

I love this place! This is a great bar if you love beer, enjoy sports, or just want to hangout with some cool people and have a good time. The owner, Burc, is hilarious and really goes out of his way to get to know you and remember your name. The rest of the staff: Laurie, Jen, etc. are all awesome as well. Everyone is extremely knowledgeable about beer, but not in a hoity-toity way -- they want to share their knowledge with you and expand your tastes. I don't stop by nearly as much as I used to (moved recently), but whenever I'm nearby, I have to stop by for a pint and a little bottle-shopping. I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

Can't believe i haven't written a review yet. Burc, and the rest are great. The beer selection, both on tap, and bottled, is nearly unparalleled. Sure, Total Wine, BevMo, and the like, have 'more', but they lack 2 things that set the Beer Authority apart. 1) Customer service (decent, but flighty, at most of these booze walmarts) 2) Knowledgeable staff that interact with the distributors AND the customers. If the staff only knows one side of the story, they can't be as fully informed as the staff here IS. 3) I'm bad at lists 4) staff that drinks the product they sell. I asked 4 times at total wine a few weeks ago, when filling a growler, what this beer or that tasted like, or about the hops used, etc... 4 pitches, 4 strikes(?). 5) I'm bad at counting read more

just moved to Seattle. found this place on my first weekend jaunt in my new hood. the owner, staff, and ALLLLL the locals who hang out here (with their dogs) were friendly and welcoming. I found my new home. :) plus I love the gi-normous beer selection! always interestigng beers to try. no food menu but bring whatever you want or order food and have it delivered straight to your bar seat from any number of food places within a couple block radius. they're also always doing great fundraisers/raffles for good causes. glad i found this place. read more

This place is great! Great selection of beers, games, comfy places to sit, cool people behind the bar and you can bring dogs! The tab can run up quickly but that is to be expected when your drinking killer beer. The sushi spot next door will bring you food so with that, this place is a winner! read more

Overall, the best bottle shop in Washington. Great selection of specialty beers, great atmosphere, friendly customer service and a down to earth, non-pretentious owner who'll shoot you straight every time, unlike the folks at Special Brews in Lynnwood. Friendliest Beer Shop in Seattle. Most bottle shops dedicate a lot of space to inventory, with a couple of tables or small bar thrown in. Beer Authority has a good balance of both tasty beers on the shelves, and lots of bar and booth space which really encourages you to stay a while and chat with the patrons, most of which will be happy to tell you what they're drinking or offer you a taste sample. There's plenty of big screen TVs dedicated to the game of the day--come during a Seahawk game and your apt to see owner Burc grilling bratwurst on the BBQ and people sharing a potluck during the game. Another standout is the Brewer's Night, which couples a hosted brewery along with their brew master who will explain the makings of the featured beers brought in for the event. Raffles for prizes/swag also are done on brewer's night. If you're hankering for food, Beer Authority keeps a notebook of all the local menus of Lake City restaurants where you can order take out and bring food in or have it delivered. Finally, you can join the mug club and after 50 pints consumed, you are awarded with your own personalized mug, engraved with whatever you want on it. The mug will be waiting for you on your next visit which can be filled with any drafts from the 13 taps, or the 500+ bottles to choose from (with a modest cracking fee).
