But the…read moreWoodstock hubs and I have loved in the last 21 years, went from funky- yet quaint to snotty-ass in recent years. Don't get me wrong, we still do day-trips to relive our many years we've vacationed there. And because Woodstock has been cramped, hubs decided to come up further out west to the sticks- without the snobbiness. We also got away for other reasons: my mid-winter recess from school and because my husband was a Navy man for umpteen years- where there's history and water, he's there. Green Acres Retreat made the cut for its style and close proximity to the Delaware River. Plus Green Acres R shifted from an old-fashioned motel to one that offers charm in spades since their '20 renovation. With 10 (I think) curated rooms, ours, was bold (for these parts) and extremely comfortable. From the crisp and plush white bedding, kitchenette, and walk-in shower- we were good. Green Acres' room designs lean towards nature with a tasteful feel. Be mindful that Rt17 is the main thoroughfare here- so you will hear 18-wheelers zoom by from your room. The heater made our room toasty- but the overhead vent layout was a bit off-putting. Towels were abundant, safe deposit box available as well as a mini fridge. The only negative for me was the plain mini wrapped soap bars for sink use and shower. And for these renovated rooms, offering classy mini toiletries add a wonderful sense of richness- which were missing here. And for $175 a night, the flimsy mini bar soaps weren't cutting it.

We stand there and wait,…read moremake eye contact with the bartender (the only person in the place) and ask " can we sit anywhere? " finally a reply, yes. So we sit and wait. Finally the bartender comes over and hands us a menu. Right away I get the feeling we are not welcome. My wife confirms the vibe and we contemplate leaving immediately. We change our menu choice from the steaks $45 to the burgers 17$. We look at the menus for a while and nothing. Finally the bartender comes over and says " you are supposed to order at the bar"," oh there used to be a sign but they removed it". Maybe she wound have mentioned that when she handed us the menus. I really want to leave here but hunger has me. The customers seem nice though. Really a bad experience from jump street. So after sitting a while the food comes and the person delivering it is so nice. The "bartender" did not get the order correct but no worries because the lovely server makes it right. The bartender has a dog and it is all over the place including the table tops? People come in and are seated right next to us. They have two dogs but there is no problem with our pup and theirs. They are lovely people. The whole time we are there from entering the establishment to the time we leave the "bartender" is talking to the people at the bar, laughing and talking. This includes the time we waited to be seated till she comes over with the menus and tells us about ordering at the bar. Nothing better to do but hack it up and make us feel uncomfortable. I get the fact that you know the regulars but wouldn't you like some more regulars? This is a hospitality industry not a hostility industry. She has got some issues! Anyhow we pay the check and leave a tip, but if the "bartender" was the only person we delt with I would have opted out of the tip. Everyone in the place was really nice and conversational except the "bartender". Good grief! The food was really good btw. Too bad I lost my appetite for the steaks because the menu was very nice and so was the presentation.

Well things have sure changed here and for the better. No more dirt and grime from the frackers who are now told to remove their filthy boots before entering, thank goodness! Our room was super clean and the cleaning staff was terrific. The next time we find ourselves in the area we'll definitely stay again!

Although we tried to be, we weren't the quietest bunch with 10 kids excited and running around but the manager Connie was so gracious and nice to us. The complimentary hot breakfast is great. The kids loved the pancake maker. They had Egg omelets and various types of sausages which were great. In addition, they had muffins, bagels, a variety of cereals, juices yogurts and other snacks. So much better than the continental breakfasts that the other places put out. They redid the pool area recently and it's so much brighter than it was last time we stayed. The chlorine levels were a little high but at least we knew the pool was sanitized. We are so looking forward to coming back. Thanks for the impeccable service!!!

My bf booked a night for us here after receiving a targeted Instagram ad. He's an absolute sucker…read morefor targeted ads, and I must congratulate Farmhouse Catskills on their marketing prowess; however, the marketing strategy gives you a pretty good idea of what you can expect. This place is definitely instagrammable... but unfortunately not much more than that (at least for now). Pros: They've done a seriously beautiful job on the decor- lots of grays and moody dark blues, mid-century furnishings, and prolific use of some of the best artificial tropical plants I've ever seen. All of it is as pretty in person as it is in those Instagram ads. When you walk in, there's ambient music that matches the vibe perfectly. We didn't take a dip in the pool because it was kind of chilly, but I thought it was neat that there was a poolside DJ. It's also worth mentioning that this place is clearly very dog friendly, and as a dog-lover-but-not-owner I was happy to be able to pet so many pups on the property. And there's a decent pool table, yay! Cons: It's pretty clear that this place was sort of hastily opened in an attempt to pull in some cash before the end of the summer, without being adequately prepared and staffed. (It kind of reminded me of one of those house-flipping shows on HGTV.) In our room, one of the ceiling lights still had blue painter's tape around it. The door (which opened to the outdoors) stuck badly, and the knob was not really appropriate for the purpose- more of a closet or bathroom doorknob than something secure for a hotel room- no deadbolt, etc. We had the same troubles with the hot water that another reviewer mentioned. We had to wait almost an hour to get a cocktail at the bar because it was understaffed. I imagine there were just one or two bartenders serving the bar, restaurant, and pool areas. (For the record, the cocktails were nice, though, as was the bartender.) At one point a man who seemed to be more or less in charge of things (but somewhat overwhelmed) was quite rude to us and another couple we were socializing with in the bar area. The morning we were to check out, a housekeeping person opened the door to the room at around 8:30 AM when we were still asleep. She apologized and said, "Oh, my manager said you already checked out!" We said "No, isn't check out at noon?" She confirmed and went on her way. No big deal. But about an hour later, ANOTHER person barges into the room and says her manager told her we had already checked out. (I'm guessing that her manager was the aforementioned overwhelmed guy.) In short: This place has definite potential- again, so pretty!- but it seems the focus right now is aesthetics over experience. At a lower price point I'd probably call it four stars, but at $300/night in the middle of nowhere, I'd expect better management and service. I'd be interested to see if they work out some of the kinks next summer.
