Really need a blow dry spot and was excited to try this one out. Booked a "Blow Out with Extended Time" because I have long hair and wanted a blow dry plus a couple waves. For reference, the regular "Blow Out" is $59 for 45 mins and the "Blow Out with Extended Time" is $74 for 1 hr 15 mins. I got there at 5:15pm. The air is actually hazy from all the hairspray in the air. I have never seen that in a salon before - may be wise to invest in a better air circulation solution? I was told to take a seat but the small couch was full of people waiting. I was taken for my wash at 5:30pm, 15 minutes into my appointment time. The wash was okay, no massage. But the crazy part was that the "Extended Time" 75 min blow dry that started at 5:30pm was over at 6:05pm. It was okay for a regular blow dry (which explains the 2 stars) but there were no waves, no additional anything. I could tell she was in a rush and was hoping to make up time during my appointment. After the rapid blow dry, my stylist pretended by adding 2 curlers to my hair and then I watched as she walked over and chatted with another stylist. They peeked back at me and smirked at each other like they were pulling a fast one before she returned, removed the curlers and said "All done". Our family has been loyal clients of this salon for over 25 years, which makes this review very difficult to write. My 83-year-old mother went in for a simple wash and blow dry, but the wrong product was used, leaving her hair with a purplish tint instead of her natural gray and black. When my mother called the salon and explained the condition of her hair, she was asked to return so it could be corrected. To be clear -- this is not a complaint about the stylist, as we understand that mistakes can happen. The issue is with how the salon and business owner chose to handle it. Rather than taking responsibility and fixing the problem at no cost (which is standard in the industry), they charged my mother again. Even after the second visit, her hair still has a purple tone and will take weeks to return to normal. After decades of loyalty, this lack of accountability and care for a long-time client was extremely disappointing. Mistakes can happen anywhere -- but how a business resolves them shows their true professionalism.

So, the day came and I showed up for my appointment and the new location she was working at, Red Salon on Biscayne, only to find the lights off and the doors locked. I proceeded to text her at 3:11, then left a voicemail at 3:15. At 3:25, after waiting outside for 15 minutes, I decided to just leave. I drove 40-45 minutes EACH WAY from Pembroke Pines and she never showed up. She also never apologized. When I texted her a 2nd time, I told her she had lost me as a client. It's not like an apology would have won me back as a client, but it certainly would have been nice considering she wasted an hour and a half plus of my time! This is not only totally unacceptable, but completely unprofessional. Don't go to her unless you want to take your chances with her taking you on time, if she shows up at all.

Specifically stated, both on the phone AND in text, that I wanted "either waves and half up/half down, or a simple up do, like a low bun". I was told that was fine. I was under the impression that BOTH a makeup artist and a hair stylist would be at the salon. I was texted the day prior, to confirm my appt. The appt. time they texted me was wrong (10 am instead of 2 pm), but then said it wouldn't be a problem to keep my original time I had booked. The owner of the salon is who did my makeup. She was friendly, and didn't oblige to fixing anything I had asked (eyebrows were uneven, lip liner was 10 shades darker than the lipstick, etc). I would rate the makeup 3/5 stars, if you need your makeup done in a crunch, I wouldn't not go here. Now comes the part that received 0/5 stars, the hair. The lady "doing hair" blow dried my already dry hair (AHHH BREAKAGE). She then proceeded to put curlers in for 0.5 seconds, and take them out immediately (not sure the point of that). She threw my hair back with a rubber band (an actual plastic rubber band), and after messing with it for a few minutes, said that "my hair was too thin to do a bun". Ok, I have had my hair done in a bun 10X for weddings, and have never heard this. After I mentioned that, she said "she only does waves, no up dos". WHAT!!! I was livid, I specifically asked about a low bun, and was told it could be done. By this point I realized this wasn't a hair stylist, maybe she was a friend of the owner who was "helping out", or needed cash, but she was NOT a hair stylist. In ANY sense of the word. After a mini panic attack, I agreed to do waves and half up/half down (no other option, apparently). Even this was a struggle for her. I had to show her how to put half up, and she managed to put the entire bottle of hairspray on my hair, and left every single Bobby pin showing. My hair was a mess. As it was evident I was frustrated, the owner had the nerve to come over and show me our text message conversation. As I pointed out, look, I even said "low bun", she said yes, but look, you also said simple. If a low bun isn't simple, I don't know what is. She didn't charge me for the hair, thankfully, but I just was very upset about my hair for an important wedding, and agitated with the response from the salon. Bottom line, if you need your hair done for an event, do NOT COME HERE!!! Save your $$, there are plenty of other places in Miami to get it done (and the other alternative of doing it yourself, is still better than coming here).
