Cool cocktail spot with loungy, trendy vibes. Music is loud, so don't come here for meaningful…read moreconversation. Solid third date kind of a spot (dark & sexy) but also a cool place to hang with friends. Cocktails were good, though we went right after the Oasis gig so they had a reduced menu for the weekend. Still everything we had ranged from solid to great. Service was friendly and helpful.

I wish that I could give this place more than 5 stars. This is absolutely one of my favourite…read moreplaces that I have ever been - and certainly the best cocktails that I have ever had. My husband took me here as part of my birthday treat a few months ago and I will be forever grateful that he did. It is really quite difficult to put in to words just how good the cocktails are. The premise of this place is that they make 'molecular cocktails' - essentially cocktails that they have scientifically concocted so that all of the ingredients complement each other molecularly. For just £50 per person, you are treated to a 7-course cocktail menu. With each delicious cocktail you are brought a unique side dish that has been chosen specifically for that drink. We were given such unusual dishes (including slices of cured meats and filled pasta!) that oddly did enhance the taste of the cocktails. As well as the delicious cocktails, what this place also has going for it is the decor. It is very sleek, elegant and gothic. The service is also incredibly good as well. I would absolutely recommend going to this cocktail bar if you can. You would be stupid not to go here. It is absolutely worth visiting. I cannot wait to return.

The Boat that Rocks

The Boat that Rocks is located literally on a marina by the docks. If you did not search for a…read morerestaurant/pub with food, you wouldn't find this place. It is an odd location where there's boats all around and even a massive parking garage just for boats. Pretty unique place. The ambience seems a bit posh, but the staff is attentive and friendly. There's a lot of seating so you can pick your choice if need be. You sit down and you order your food on a simplified menu. There's not too many choices but enough and there's even some vegetarian options as well. The kitchen closes at around 9pm. We know this because after climbing on the island all day, we were looking for a place to go and as we came in and wanted to order food, it was a bit rushed since the kitchen was about to close soon. Nachos- they are sad and underwhelming. The tortilla chips are interestingly flavoured and seasoned with paprika maybe? The cheese is salty and loaded on heavily. The amount of sour cream and salsa given on the side is absolutely sad. It's a tiny thumbnail paper cup. Barely enough for a couple tortilla chips. Fish and chips- fish is okay, nothing that special. The chips are massive and chunky. The mushy peas are your average mushed peas. The tartare sauce is just as sad as the sour cream and salsa for the nachos. Halloumi and red pepper burger- by far the best part of everything we got. The halloumi is fried to perfection. The vegetables are a nice balance. The pretzel bun was too much breading though. It came with a little side salad and coleslaw. As well as the chunky massive chips. It doesn't seem much but it's pretty filling by the end of it. The amount of mayo given was the same as the other dipping sauces. We had to ask before they gave us more. Why not just give the whole condiment bottle? Overall if you are looking for a cold drink with a meal, this place is decent enough. Just don't get your hopes up. The ambience and the plating is much fancier than the food is.

Good, straightforward food, which families of all ages will appreciate. Ah This pub used to known as The Old Library. Unsurprising, given that prior to its transformation…read moreinto a chamber of raucousness in the mid nineties, it was Taunton's very own hushed bibliotheque. Don't worry; we didn't burn the books; the library was relocated about 400m away and at the time I was quite happy to see a new pub to try and get served sans ID, (17!!). In its first incarnation, the pub celebrated its heritage by maintaining a quasi-literary (not semi literate) theme. Local historians pointed out that as the library building was a gift from the Carnegie foundation on condition that alcohol was not imbibed on the premises. Everyone else said let's get ratted. Now that the 'Pitcher & Piano' chain have bought it, they've seen fit to daub it the dullest colour known to man, just to make it that little bit more homogenous. No Piano either, despite plenty of space for one. OK, so actually it is going to be nicer than many 3 star pubs; there's a lovely beer garden which is perfect for watching the shoppers stroll along the quirky shops in Bath Place - but food is too bland, too pricey, too fried and there's so much more that could be done with such a lovely building. EDIT: I'm giving it a three as it's probably rammed on a saturday night, which can't be a bad thing.

No question, 5 stars from me. I love Amoeba!…read more If you're unfamiliar with Amoeba (shame on you) then it is a little hidden gem tucked away in a backstreet of Clifton Village. They have an incredible beer selection, but for me, this place is all about the cocktails - and boy do they do good cocktails! Amoeba is small. It is set over 3 levels; ground level with a few tables, the bar is upstairs and then downstairs you'll find a few more tables and nice terrace area. The decor is dark red and it's nice and dimly lit. They have a large blackboard on the wall with a list of all of their beers and an amazing selection of spirits behind the bar. I've felt instantly comfortable and every time Ive been to Amoeba. It always has a great atmosphere and it isn't what you'd expect from a cocktail bar in Clifton. It's nowhere near as pretentious or uninviting as Hausbar up the road. There's no door knocking here! They had a decent DJ (although he was sat down, ha) and the staff were great. I said I wanted a gin based cocktail with some kind of berry influence - I got exactly that! I've no idea what it was called, but it was GOOD! This is one of the best bars in Bristol, in my eyes!
