This place is great. Onion rings, calamari, and jerk chicken cheesesteak were all fantastic. Don't pay more at the other tourist traps.

By far the best service on the island! You can tell Nik truly cares for his customers. Good food too! You must stop in

Not the biggest fan honestly, for the fact we came in during a weeknight and place was super slow,…read moreI can't understand why we were not able to get any service... Just ignorance. And then when it came to beer ordering (regular IPA from Goose Island), it was super warm... like room temperature, but this is not a cask beer so I am not sure what this was about! Quite disappointed to pay a premium price for a beer and then get something you can't even finish, yuck. The pizza was good, I can't say a bad word about that, it was just the beer and the service that got me disappointed and I would not want to come back for. I wish your experience is better than mine.

We came with a group of 7, plus 2 babies and a young child. It worked out well for us. This is not Chinese, despite the odd label on yelp. I suspect it's the local club too with multiple levels and the overall set up. Water front and by the bridge, it'll be nice in warmer weather for a spot of people watching. We were happy with our 2 for £10.50 deal. Sandwiches are reasonably priced for a pub at around £5.50. One of our group ordered tacos... that was a mistake. Stick to pub fare and you should be fine. The service was questionable though, the waiters had no idea where the food orders were suppose to go! They actually made a mistake and brought over 5 tapas dishes instead of the three ordered. Then tried to charge for it when they realised what they'd done 30mins later... the ordering group had already left so that was the end of that. But really...! Decent pit stop for a quick bite when you're after a view but aren't sure where to go. Probably better for hanging out with some pints.

Red Lion - Don't be fooled by how photogenic these mussels are. They taste horrendous!

Then we got stuck in Friday afternoon traffic, and decided it was best to head straight for food. In looking up the best pubs in the area, the Red Lion was recommended. We parked in the pay lot that's the other side of the Brewers Quay area and followed the crowd. There was the Red Lion with a full patio in glorious sunshine. We grabbed a table and headed inside to order. We each had the fish finger bap that comes with chips and salad (fish finger sandwich with fries and salad, for my American friends). We also got the half pint of prawns, purportedly with spicy sauce, and the house-made brownie with ice cream to share. The food came quickly enough. And when the employee (bartender/server) heard our accents, he told us about how on the left side of the building, on the bricks of Cove Passage, dozens of Americans inscribed their initials as they waited to load the transport ships that would take them to Normandy for D Day. The food was decent. The bun and lettuce of the bap didn't do much for me, so I just ate the fish fingers with the tartar sauce. Salad was fresh, crunchy, and lightly dressed. Chips are chips. The prawns were nicely cooked, but that sauce was in no way spicy, by any stretch of my American pallet. The brownie and ice cream were quite good. There is free wifi, and it reaches most of the patio. Bathrooms were clean. A decent experience, bumped by the friendly bartender and his historical tip.

It is an odd location where there's boats all around and even a massive parking garage just for boats. Pretty unique place. The ambience seems a bit posh, but the staff is attentive and friendly. There's a lot of seating so you can pick your choice if need be. You sit down and you order your food on a simplified menu. There's not too many choices but enough and there's even some vegetarian options as well. The kitchen closes at around 9pm. We know this because after climbing on the island all day, we were looking for a place to go and as we came in and wanted to order food, it was a bit rushed since the kitchen was about to close soon. Nachos- they are sad and underwhelming. The tortilla chips are interestingly flavoured and seasoned with paprika maybe? The cheese is salty and loaded on heavily. The amount of sour cream and salsa given on the side is absolutely sad. It's a tiny thumbnail paper cup. Barely enough for a couple tortilla chips. Fish and chips- fish is okay, nothing that special. The chips are massive and chunky. The mushy peas are your average mushed peas. The tartare sauce is just as sad as the sour cream and salsa for the nachos. Halloumi and red pepper burger- by far the best part of everything we got. The halloumi is fried to perfection. The vegetables are a nice balance. The pretzel bun was too much breading though. It came with a little side salad and coleslaw. As well as the chunky massive chips. It doesn't seem much but it's pretty filling by the end of it. The amount of mayo given was the same as the other dipping sauces. We had to ask before they gave us more. Why not just give the whole condiment bottle? Overall if you are looking for a cold drink with a meal, this place is decent enough. Just don't get your hopes up. The ambience and the plating is much fancier than the food is.

Don't worry; we didn't burn the books; the library was relocated about 400m away and at the time I was quite happy to see a new pub to try and get served sans ID, (17!!). In its first incarnation, the pub celebrated its heritage by maintaining a quasi-literary (not semi literate) theme. Local historians pointed out that as the library building was a gift from the Carnegie foundation on condition that alcohol was not imbibed on the premises. Everyone else said let's get ratted. Now that the 'Pitcher & Piano' chain have bought it, they've seen fit to daub it the dullest colour known to man, just to make it that little bit more homogenous. No Piano either, despite plenty of space for one. OK, so actually it is going to be nicer than many 3 star pubs; there's a lovely beer garden which is perfect for watching the shoppers stroll along the quirky shops in Bath Place - but food is too bland, too pricey, too fried and there's so much more that could be done with such a lovely building. EDIT: I'm giving it a three as it's probably rammed on a saturday night, which can't be a bad thing.
