EXTREMELY IMPRESSED!!!!!
I found the establishment as a result of a Sunday Times article and as I was visiting Chester I spent a night here. Even my most humble room had a high level of fit out with a good king bed (why would anyone want anything smaller?), excellent linen and a large walk-in shower. As a former award winning inn owner I know a thing or two about how things should not be.......and the Bear Inn seems to have got it all right.
The staff were chatty and on request provided fresh milk for my tea as well as noting my supper reservation.
I slept very well but found the duvet a little too warm for my liking. However a window was opened and the snug bug in a rug mode followed. The setting is quiet and my humble room which was in the coach house which made it even quieter. One thing I cannot abide as a traveller is hearing other folks do what ever they do when they are away. I could not hear a TV, amorous coupling and even the door closed quietly.
Go stay and on your visit eat at the inn as it is really wonderful and excellent value for money. A Michelin worthy dining experience that also leaves your tummy feeling full. My supper dishes of crab on a crumpet (brilliant idea!) and hot salmon followed by slow braised beef cheek and stuffed chicken was worthy of Michelin stars. Superb presentation, wonderfully cooked food and charming staff. All polished off with their take on a Bakewell tart...
I will return. read more
