Stoke On Trent Moat House - stoke on trent moat house dining

Stoke On Trent Moat House

I'd never stayed in Stoke before, it was the bride-to-be who had suggested it as a decent option…read morefor guests as it was not too far away from the wedding reception we were attending up the road at The Ashes. It's a sizeable hotel (with nearly 150 rooms) with all the ancillary facilities you'd expect: restaurant, gym, spa, conference rooms. A little dated on the exterior, but the interior was relatively modernised and it's a bit of a maze with the 'ground floor' facilities being located on multiple levels up and down staircases and lifts. Owned by the hotel chain Best Western, it's much more expensive than the average Premier Inn - a double room with breakfast included was £72, yet I didn't feel as though I was getting more quality. That being said, the parking was free and ample, staff were friendly, rooms were spotless, beds were comfortable and the breakfast options expansive and tasty. It was convenient for where we needed to be that evening but I'd prefer to stay somewhere equally as nice, but better value for money.

This facility has a very picturesque exterior, lobby, restauraunt, and bar. The rooms were budget…read morehotel quality and modestly furnished. You had to book the dinner in advance so no spontaneous decisions about that. Limited selections on the menu and the service was slow. The food was descent. I left my glasses on the table at dinner an the waitress ran them up to my room for me, which was a nice surprise. The front desk staff was also top notch and fetched me a European to UK power adapter as I had managed to forget mine. The gal even remembered my name when i returned it the next day. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. Breakfast was a buffet and somewhat average. Not good - not bad. Adequate for our needs. All in all, a good stay with adequate and clean facilities.

Travelodge Stoke Talke

Stayed here for 2 nights over the October half term, got a cheap offer for £19 a night…read more We chose this one as it was near both Trentham and Alton Towers, both of which we were planning to visit. This Travelodge is simple to find, you come off junction 16 on the M6, travel onto the A500 towards Stoke and take the 2nd turning onto the A34 towards Newcastle and its just there with a Little Chef also on the site, so really easy to spot and no problems accessing it so great from that point of view. The hotel itself needs a good vacuum! I even commented each time i walked through reception that it needed one but we never saw any signs that anyone vacuumed here. On saying that however our room was surprisingly clean and tidy and the bathroom spotless. There were some musty smells walking through one end of the corridoor but we only went that way once and never noticed it anywhere else nor was in musty in our room. The room was your general Travelodge, double bed, sofa bed with pull out, chair, desk/dressing table, tea and coffee making facilities and a tv. It was a reasonable base for Alton Towers, we left early to get there for opening and it took about 40 minutes without rushing or anything so a reasonably easy drive. I would be tempted to a closer Travelodge or something if going solely for Alton Towers however, maybe something in Uttoxeter but as we were going to Trentham Monkey Forest this was ideal for both places. We didnt eat in the hotel and had breakfast at Alton Towers the first morning and at the Little Chef the second morning. The hotel has parking spaces but there is a charge for this after the first 2 hwhich are free. the charge is £3 for 24 hours so not so bad unless you have a Blue Badge then they have limited spaces which are free. The hotel offers early check in and late check out but they charge £10 for that, when we checked in it was 2pm - Check in is at 3. We asked if our room was ready we were told it would be ready at 3 but if we paid £10 it was ready nowneedless to say we declined and went and found a nice place for lunch instead. The staff were pleasant and helpful and offered advice on local places to eat and also information about the Outlet Mall nearby. Overall not the best Travelodge but reasonable and we would go back on a cheap deal.

I stayed here when visiting Alton Towers. The reception area could do with an overhaul and to…read morebehonest, the entire hotel could do with a refurb. There was unpleasant damp smell in the corridors that fortunately hadn't fully made it into my room but the room did smell a little musty. The room was a reasonable size and the bathroom was functional, if a little warn. There are tea and coffee making facilities but for food you need to pop into the Little Chef that's just a short walk outside. There is a large car park that was almost empty but be warned, it's not free! It's only £3 for 24 hours but considering there's nothing nearby it does seem a little cheeky to charge you to park. If you're just looking for somewhere cheap to sleep then this hotel is fine but I wouldn't recommend more than one night here.

Hilton Garden Inn Stoke on Trent - Meeting Room

Hilton Garden Inn Stoke on Trent

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Stoke on Trent during my recent trip to Stoke-On-Trent. The hotel…read moreis fairly new, opening in 2020 and is one of two properties in the Hilton family of hotels in the city, alongside a Doubletree nearby. The location is fairly good for the city centre, a short walk into the shops and bus station in Hanley. I would say the public transport in the city is atrocious, however, so I wouldn't rely on it if you are planning a trip here. Room rates do seem a little high for the quality of the hotel and for Stoke-On-Trent which is far from the best place to visit, I was lucky to find a cheaper room rate at a third-party booking site, after contacting Hilton under their Price Match Guarantee, they reduced my rate to the lower price with a further 25% discount, so it worked out a much more reasonable £76. Dining options within the hotel are poor - Breakfast stops serving at 10 am, even on a weekend which is far too early for my liking so I decided not to have Breakfast on this occasion. Room Service is also not offered 24-7, I was disappointed as I was unable to get any food in the evening, even though the room service menu does not mention a cut-off point at any time. Now the hotel wasn't overly busy, and I understand not having a full meal 24-7, but surely having some basic 24-7 options and notifying guests the hours of ordering food alongside the menu is a start? My room was fine - It looked pretty ordinary and very similar to any other Hilton Garden Inn property I've stayed in or at least the newer properties in the HGI brand including Manchester Old Trafford and Doncaster Racecourse. The TV was mounted to the wall and due to the bracket used, it made it very difficult to attach my fire stick, I managed to get the USB part in but the HDMI was inaccessible and I ended up giving up. The main issue for me was the lack of a desk or proper desk. The table on the far left side of the room, which included draws for the fridge and kettle could easily have been extended to give a proper desk. There was a mini sofa and coffee table, but it wouldn't have been suitable for working. Cleanliness inside the room was fine, although the sofa looked a little worse for wear up close and empty cups and trays of food were left in the corridors all day which was unpleasant. The thermostat in the room was vastly complicated, not only did it not pass 24 C, but it would be stuck on standby. I had to ask the front desk to fix this issue which they managed to do. I didn't feel truly recognised as a Gold Hilton Honors Member here, and I hope this isn't the sign of what's to come after recently losing my Diamond status. I had to remind the staff members multiple times of my status after they tried to charge me for the bottles of water and a late checkout which should be tier benefits. I do find the 11 am checkout far too early regardless, but I was granted until 2 pm on request. My room was very quiet, perhaps I got lucky as my room was situated on the top floor, at the end of the corridor. I did have some trouble sleeping though, the pillows were awful and had nothing to them and I ended up waking up with a sore neck. The staff seemed friendly enough, perhaps the issue with recognising Hilton Honors benefits was a training issue. They were very short-staffed throughout my stay, I had to wait ten minutes to retrieve my bags from Reception which I had stored there after checking out, as there was only one staff member on the desk. For a hotel that often charges between £120 and £140 per night, and no less than £80 per night, I'd expect a lot more, especially given the fact Stoke-On-Trent is far from an attractive place to visit. I think it is highly unlikely I would want to return to this hotel in the future. 2*
