Today I am 61 days sober, that may not seem like much but that number is only growing and I have to give Beachcombers a massive thank you. When I arrived (after detox) I was nervous and very guarded, my stomach was in knots. I was welcomed in with open arms and that feeling of unease ended extremely quickly, I almost immediately felt like I belong, like family...which is something I never really had. My stay at beachcomber had such a profound effect on me as a person, that my life right now at only 61 days...has already become a far better life than I had thought possible. When I initially began this process (and even halfway through lol) I was extremely bullheaded, skeptical and so untrusting that I doubted everything they said however, not one single time did I feel judged in any way! The therapist and staff were really patient with me and understanding, they gave me time to figure it out myself and I and so thankful they did. What I didn't realize was that I was fighting myself, not them lol It wasn't until I stopped fighting and convinced myself that maybe they are right, maybe I can't do this on my own, that my entire experience turned around. I will never forget my first experience with Saundra, I remember walking away upset lol! Saundra will establish dominance and so she should! Saundra became my therapist for a short time during Thanksgiving. I was nervous and didn't know what to expect with her but within moments, I felt better. My sessions with her were the most uplifting and empowering sessions I've ever had. She feels like a caring mom, she won't let you dwell and you can tell that she really does care. Saundra gave my the approval and motivation that I needed to come home and turn my life around. Most people who struggle with addiction need that level of humbling, structure, that mother-like love and discipline. I now understand why she is the way she is and I am so thankful! Most addicts like myself are used to people enabling us and getting mad when they don't. We tend to be prideful, as if we know it all lol they will bump heads with your pride...they need to do that. They're fighting the thing that is trying to kill you so needless to say you will not find an enabler at this place!!! What you'll find is the care of a former addict, the therapist here have all been in recovery for a long time. This gives them the ability to actually understand and know what it's like from experience not textbook. Personally, I say...you can't help anyone through something unless you've walked in your shoes and they have all been there and done that!! Rapid trama therapy with Val was life changing, she makes you feel completely at ease and by the time the season was complete, I felt a new type of energy a "can do" energy. This place is run just like a big loving happy family, everyone contributes and works together, it was a wonderful experience. My experience in this facility was the worst possible outcome imaginable. Sandra was the counselor who ran most of the groups I was in during my 30 days there, and her qualifications and motives were questionable, to put it mildly. I could not more strongly suggest that those seeking compassionate, professional help with substance abuse and/or addiction issues look to other programs and avenues than this place. read more

I spent 28 days at the beachcomber earlier this year as My addiction spiraled out of control and I almost died. After 50 years of a roller coaster of substance abuse, with five years, eight years, 12 years of sobriety I hit my lowest bottom ever. Addiction is a very powerful disease and Finally the disease becomes a reality that eventually overtakes rational and cognitive thinking and all you wanna do is use to self medicate to forget the unrest that is stuck in your subconscious. My unrest consisted of family abandonment, sexual and physical abuse, traumatic incidents, car accidents, being shot, losing loved ones. All my life I was able to repress at least 125 incidents, yes 125 which would regularly manifest into stinking thinking. I can't say enough good things about this facility. The Therapists here were so wonderful when a loved one needed their help. They were so caring and patient with us. It's a scary thing to have a loved one fall victim to this disease but knowing that he was at Beachcomber made things a little easier. The facility is on a beautiful property and when we would come to visit, we had the best time that we could - given the circumstances. I attended Beachcomber for inpatient treatment in April/May of 2019 and while the adjustment to no cell phone, no laptop, no tv was somewhat difficult at first, I really threw myself into the program. The facility offers a serene landscape, group therapy sessions, one on ones with your individual therapist, a meeting with a psychiatrist, yoga, acupuncture, meditation. The rapid resolution therapy was invaluable for relieving my past trauma. The beach is less than a 5 minute walk and I miss going each morning to watch the sun rise. The therapists all really care. I go back each week for the alumni Meeting. I would recommend beachcomber to anyone and everyone. read more

A really nice rehab facility. The rooms are very nice, and the ocean setting is nice. It is a 28 day program. All of the staff is nice and caring, It just did not work out for my sister. She has an addiction to eating tobacco. The Beachcomber staff go to the store and purchase cigarettes for the patients. So this did not work for us. We had to use a Psychiatric Hospital. read more

This place is NOT supervised. They allow anything get in. The therapist "Trey" has to be the most rude unprofessional employee that I have ever spoken too. "Sandra" treated my cousin so poorly that she is literally traumatized. I highly recommend to steer clear of this place. It may be on the beach however does not actually follow proper treatment protocol and their staff is extremely unfit to handle people with addiction. I just don't understand how a treatment center could treat people who are trusting their lives with them so poorly. read more

As an interventionist/referent who sends many people afflicted with alcohol and drug addiction to inpatient rehab, I have only had good experiences working with Joe and the entire staff at The BC. I refer to quite a few different rehabs in the state of FL as well as around the county and for an in-network center they stand out miles above the rest. When an employee of mine had a relapse, The Beachcomber was the place I sent him to and the results were as good as I expected, that employee is now back at work and doing great. I highly recommend the beachcomber and will continue to refer there when clinically appropriate. read more

I was at the Beach Comber early January to receive help with my disease. The therapists sit there, pick on you, break you down and humiliate you but instead of telling you that everything is alright and the past is the past and everything is going to be ok they make you feel like the biggest piece of trash. I couldnt take it anymore of the mental and verbal abuse so I walked out of this place after 10 days and I really wanted to use drugs because of this yet I stayed sober. I went to another treatment facility that was the total opposite of this place where the staff cared and knew what they were doing and i'm still sober today no thanks to Beach Comber.The staff are extremely under qualified to work with people in addiction. I would NOT recommend this treatment center to ANYONE! read more

The facility is gorgeous and I have fond memories of practicing yoga on the beach early in the morning. The faculty is very professional, especially Trey and Robert who always had time to talk with me. I started my journey with Beachcomber in IOP and through a few relapses went into inpatient because I already trusted these amazing people. I have remained very close to the Beachcomber for the past two years, and they honestly have been my angels! I couldn't have made it without them. And I am eternally grateful! My son got excellent treatment at The Beachcomber. I am a psychologist and former EAP manager for American Airlines, so have had the opportunity to tour and work with many addiction treatment programs around the US. I am so glad Beachcomber was available to my son. The staff is caring and knowledgeable. The small population means every patient is well known and carefully tracked. My name is Chris Kaufteil. Let me just start out by saying that I was the hopeless variety alcoholic. I am from South Florida and have been through almost every in network facility from Dade to Palm Beach county. I am forever grateful the family owned and operated Beachcomber in Delray Beach along with their Intensive Outpatient program. I choose to come to the Beachcomber in March of 2015. Being my 11th or 12th treatment center in the past 5 years I thought It was going to be another "turn and burn" experience like many other South Florida facilities. Most facilities that I have been through aside from this place was like a factory and that's an understatement. The Beachcomber is unique in a sense that the staff takes a personal interest in your emotional well being along with your physical safety. I am the addict who never had more than 60 days outside of a residential facility. I now have 4 months and its all attributed to God and the 12 steps which were both brought to light by the care and concern of the Beachcomber ambience and staffing. I have never felt so secure and safe to share some of my deeply rooted issues than when I was a client at the Beachcomber. This 16 bed program allowed me the opportunity to work on issues never exposed in previous attempts at other treatment centers. I am now in aftercare though their Intensive Outpatient program and have been for the past 9-10 weeks also participating in the Relapse Prevention workshop. God Bless! Recovery is messy and imperfect so if you're looking for the perfect place to recover, forget it. Such a place does not exist. And, recovery is not a commodity that improves with price. I am the father of an addict (alcohol and drugs) who has been thru "recovery" three times so while not a certified "recovery" expert I am reasonably well qualified to render a well informed opinion. Beach Comber recovery is good and if you are searching for a recovery option then you should certainly give Beach Comber a close look and serious consideration. Here's why.... 1 - they have been at the business of recovery for a long time and have a good track record (in a discipline that is known for an abissmal failure rate) 2 - yes they accept insurance as most do BUT are not a billing mill like so many are. They genuinely care more about the patient than his or her insurance coverage or other financial resources. 3. They are fairly priced. Not cheapest but certainly not the highest cost either. 4. Their facility is intimate, clean, basic and nicely situated near the beach. Feels more like a summer camp. 5. Good, practical after care "out patient" program that is both effective and affordable. 6. Good 1/2 way house referral resources. So many addicts relapse once they hit the 1/2 way house option. The reason is likely due to the fact that most 1/2 houses are a warehouse for users and a target for dealers. Most are terribly lax. Beach Comber gave us well vetted options which I believe has been a strong positive contributing factor to my sons continuing recovery success (six months now and still one day at a time). 7. Down to earth, real world, practical and practicable one-day-at-time survival skills. If you are suffering with addiction or love someone who is then I strongly recommend Beach Comber Recovery. The Beachcomber is one of the most established and well recognized Drug and Alcohol treatment centers in South Florida....I know many clients that have successfully completed their program...I am an alumni and the staff is always available with kind loving support with a firm hand which is necessary when trying to tackle addiction issues...it's not in business to provide flat screen TVs and Equine therapy....it's there to provide good sound self analysis as well as a beginners course in the 12 step process of recovery....The Beachcomber is there for you even when you've completed the program they just don't say goodbye and good luck...loved the staff and owner they really care while keeping a safe and productive environment...If your looking for a place to heal and battle your addictions I highly recommend this facility....enough said.... read more

The Beachcomber was a good experience for me. I stayed for 28 days. I have been struggling with addiction for several years and found this place to be very helpful through their approach towards recovery. The staff members were all professional, friendly and helpful - mostly recovering alcoholics/addicts themselves - and the facility was comfortable enough. I believe the Beachcomber has a capacity of 16, with two people to a cabin. The rooms were nice and cleaned frequently. Food was served family-style and was very good as well. In terms of their approach to treating addiction, I found it all to be very practical and vital information. It focused on working a program of action which included following daily spiritual disciplines (prayer, meditation, etc.), willingness, building sober support, and of course AA and the 12 steps. Additionally, I got to work one on one with my therapist and completed readings and assignments which were tailored to each patient's specific case. The Beachcomber also offered alternative groups, such as art therapy, acupuncture, meditation, yoga, movie nights, and a weekly game of charades. They also bring in a chiropractor, physical therapist, and a massage therapist every so often. The Beachcomber also has family sessions which can be helpful in bridging the gap with co-dependency issues. Beach access is three blocks from the facility. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is prepared to commit to sobriety. read more

I went to the Beach Comber about 2 years ago. I would say the experience was average at best. The program is a 12 step program identical to the AA philosophy of getting sober. The only difference is that you attend classes all day long. The food is good but very high calorie & there is no exercise here except for the beach once you get your freedom after week 1 to go to the beach. The staff was generally uncaring & acted as if they were going through the motions. Maximizing your insurance payout, like most rehabs, is the primary goal at the Beach Comber. The owner lives in a huge house behind the property is obviously raking in the cash. I felt like I could of attended AA on a daily basis and still had the same experience without restricting my freedom. The counselors smoke cigarettes (most of them) and there's a lot of sitting around in the smoking lounge with talk about who's about to leave and go home. I think if you have a serious physical addiction, i.e. Oxycontin, being in a live-in facility like this would work well since you would not be able to leave and obtain drugs. My wallet upon entering the facility was taken & my American Express was charged with a 5,000.00 co pay which later was returned. This was WITHOUT my authorization. The owner later admitted that my sister had given authorization (which she had NO authority over). I would highly recommend you do your research and understand exactly where you're going and what the daily schedule is. Talk to folks in the program and get their opinions. Most rehabs are just money grubbing shops that bill that insurance until it disappears and they boot you to the street after 28 days of storming your health insurance & savings accounts. I have been a big advocate for the Beachcomber for 23 years! I started my journey from addiction at that time at the Beachcomber. The truth is I was an alcoholic housewife with a husband, a 2 year old, a home we built and I couldn't identify with the alcoholic because I had no war stories. Never lost a job, never been stopped by a police officer, and never lost a job. Beachcomber was the place I got an education in alcoholism is a safe, comfortable place. Loved that they had a program for my family so we could all grow together. The therapist were compassionate, caring and well educated about our disease. I have kept in contact with the Beachcomber all this time and even sent my own child there when problems arose. I have a sister who went through in 1985 and a sister in law 1987. It's a family disease after all. I have a great understanding of my disease and it all started at the Beachcomber, LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! read more
