Battery is always a treat with it beautiful venue and glorious decor. Each of the floor and venue has its own unique feel and design but with consistent level of luxury and touch of care. The drinks and food were fabulous. I was here for a function on the penthouse floor. Oddly enough it's the least decorated but I enjoy the rooftop view of downtown. read more

This review is for the main dining room. My friend is a member of this club and she invited me to have dinner with her at the main dining room. Two of us shared 3 appetizers, each of us had a main (so 2 main dishes), total of 3 glasses of champagne, and 2 desserts, total ~$390. Almost $200 per person. Champagne, I did splurge and got the most expensive glass they had ($55). It's a blended champagne with different years of champagne and the staff member explained all the back stories about the champagne offered during the evening and this one intrigued me. If you do come in early, you will see a staff member doing a sabrage. I have been cutting alcohol consumption but I got persuaded to give this a try! It is a very very delicious champagne. Now into the food. Hamachi crudo - it is a very delightful and well-executed starter. The thickness of the hamachi is just right and the caviar and apples are definitely the perfect compliments highlight the flavor of hamachi and balance the richness in hamachi. Steak tartare - it has a lighter fare to it. The meat was cut into a micro dices/cube rather than finely minced in a traditional way. The crostini is super thin as well. I personally prefer a more rich and decadent steak tartare but I also think this lighter version will have their supporters too. (Honestly, I think if you are in GLP-1 and need to increase your protein intake but not having a large appetite, this would be the perfect dish to have. lol!) Octopus - I highly recommend this appetizer, especially during the June Gloom time when you want a warm, hearty, and flavorful starter. Not only the octopus was grilled to perfection, it has this delicious roasted potatoes, chorizo mash(?) , and one of the best chimichurri I've ever had. I can see myself coming back here just to get this dish. My friend got the black cod - she had it over the weekend and enjoyed it so much that she had to have it again. Risotto - this is the one that I just think it's just OK. I love the idea - using the spicy flavorful cioppino as a stock to cook the risotto. But I'm quite disappointed by the amount of seafood served in this $40 risotto. The portion, honestly, feels like a primo rather than the main course. If you have a small appetite, yea, you can get around with it as your main. But this is the same price as the black cod - I expect to get more rice and get way more seafood since mussels, clams, and shrimps that were placed on the risotto are on the tiny side... so I honestly don't think it's worth the price. It is delicious - don't get me wrong. But I just won't pay $40 next time again for it. Dessert, my friend got a scope of ice-cream. I was recommended to have the strawberry cheesecake and it was definitely a very solid dessert. At first I thought it's just a slice of cheesecake topped with strawberry. But the staff explained the dessert to me and I gave this a try. It is a deconstructed strawberry cheesecake but I do think the pastry chef did a great job celebrating strawberry cheesecake! The cheesecake was formed into a chocolate bon bon with a shape like a strawberry. It's served with this roasted strawberries sauce and the graham cracker crumbs tie everything together. I am a little bit surprised to see this type of dessert as I wouldn't think they would hire a pastry chef... they might just keep it simple with ice-cream and sorbet, or source really well-made dessert elsewhere. But it seems like they do have a pastry chef in-house. So definitely save room to give the dessert offering a try as well! Was the service great? Yes. Was the food good? Yes. But I just don't think it's enough to justify paying $2K of initiation fee + $3K of annual membership fee in order to have the delicious food here at the main dining room. There are other places in the city that offer attentive services with delicious food out there for the similar price range. I'm rounding up the rating to four because I see the staff here doing their best to make this dining room to provide this low-key luxurious dining experience for their members. However, if you do need an access to a venue to host parties/gatherings within your social group, or to be part of a social club to build your professional and personal network, I can see the value to joining this club. But I just won't pay $5K just to come here for food/drink unless I see a bigger discount at the restaurant. For now, I think the price is fairly comparable to other expensive steakhouse/high-end restaurant in the city that doesn't have a Michelin star. At this point, I just hope my friend who is a member will continue taking me out there for dinner in the future ;) read more

We love to visit the battery when we are in San Francisco. It's a private club that has reciprocal locations in different parts of the world also... Why do we like the battery? There is always something fun going on... While we were there in March we were able to attend a free comedy show... Standing room only. After it was on to the secret room for drinks and dinner downstairs in the renovated dining room. The weather was stellar during our visit in March at 80°! So sitting outside at one of the garden tables was a must. The food here is excellent in the dining room and outside. The service is also top-notch.... The art changes, but my favorite is downstairs in the basement! ".... And then they came." how can you not love that?! Even the bathrooms are fun in this establishment! Dark, bohemian and somewhat sultry. We love the changing entertainment and always feel welcome here. read more

Walking into The Battery felt a little like stepping into a different version of San Francisco, one that is quieter, moodier, and somehow more intentional. It has that tucked-away, almost secret kind of charm, where everything from the lighting to the music makes you slow down a bit. It never felt stuffy though, just thoughtfully put together, like every detail had a purpose without trying too hard. Dinner ended up being one of those meals where you keep pausing mid-conversation just to appreciate what you are eating. The steak was cooked exactly how I wanted, tender with that perfect sear, and the sides were not an afterthought. Even something simple felt elevated, like it had been given extra care. We had a couple of cocktails that were just as memorable, balanced, a little bold, and honestly hard not to order again. What stayed with me most was the overall feeling of the night. It felt special without being over the top, like you found a place that knows exactly what it is doing and does it well. Wow, as many other have noted, this is a gorgeous place. Each room has a its own vibe: library, small nightclub, parlor, lounge, bourbon bar, and more. Five stars. Dinner, however, was not quite at the same level. I guess I'd call it "uneven." Service was engaged, polite, knew the menu, and efficient. The food was solidly fine. The $40 chicken was so incredibly small (did they say half chicken in the menu?) that I think it was a mistake. No sides. The salad was large but about 50% bitter endive. Hm, not tasty. The cheesecake was delicious and substantial. I checked the online menu: "Fogline Farms Half Chicken, morels, ramps, asparagus, chicken jus 40" (Ah, also forgot the asparagus.) And while I would expect prices to be on the higher end, the food pushed it over the top. I think the bread, which we did not have, was $15.... Each of us had two modest glasses of wine, we shared the salad, and two entrees, and two desserts for ~$150 each. We then moved to one of the bar areas to continue our conversation. The cocktails were excellent. In sum, this place has the potential for being spectacular. A few tweaks and it's 5 stars across-the-board. read more

I had a work dinner in the wine cellar at the Battery and enjoyed a preset menu starting with a frisée and endive salad, which was fresh, with the perfect amount of dressing. The toppings of grapes, candied pecans, and a fried goat cheese roll were all fresh and added a nice textural and flavorful touch. My main of king salmon was nicely cooked, but the true star of the show was the side, sautéed mushrooms and a ramp purée, which were wonderfully seasoned and complemented the dish well. For dessert, I chose the cheesecake, which was smooth and perfectly baked, with a delicate hint of lemon. The ambiance was nice, and the decor was chic. There were a few fruit flies which were a little distracting. The service was excellent. read more

The atmosphere and the interior design of the restaurant space is very chic. The tables are tiny and you'll always be squeezed in with your coworkers and shouting to overcome the loudness as well. At least 5 different servers wearing formal clothes will come and check on your table constantly. The food does not live up to the hype. It's average quality San Francisco restaurant food that's over salted and over oiled. 2.5 stars, fine for a quick business meeting or a drink but I wouldn't come if you're actually hungry and wanting a proper meal. read more

Bad vibe and empty. They say that due to the current Mismanagement of Members Thomas Kennedy, the place is dead and vibe is hostile. Their new rule, "no standing and socializing at the main bar" only makes sense since the place is now empty. It's super creepy. They watch and record you on camera and kick out members who may inadvertently violate their rules. Careful on your night out. Big Brother is always watching at The Battery. read more

The Battery is one of the clubs I belong to in The City. It's hip, trendy and has very cool outdoor space! Now that San Franciscans has been Shelter In Place since March , The Battery is an oasis for people starving to get out but be safe. There are two very lovely outdoor spaces to dine ! I love that the Battery offers the Penthouse and Courtyard for alfresco dining and gatherings. They are far enough away from the public streets so that you can enjoy eating without smelling auto fumes which is important to me since I am asthmatic . Tables are spaced more than six feet away from each other-- a big plus ! I also like that the front desk check people's temperatures before they are allowed to enter, there are sanitizers throughout the venue and ultra clean bathroom facilities! All staff wear gloves and masks! What reassurances during Shelter In place! They are very conscientious to keep staff, members and guests healthy & safe. I feel comfortable with all the precautions! We regularly go to brunch here and sit in the back garden. It's lovely to not need a reservation and we are always seated in a timely manner. The brunch is well done with fresh juices, coffees, cocktails, and for food- classic omlette, biscuits, and pancakes are our favorites. The servers are attentive and we are never rushed. read more

I came here a while back and dined in the Garden. The outdoor space is really cute and the bathrooms and service were fantastic! Everyone knew our names and the staff were so so friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive! However, I was super underwhelmed by the pasta. It was a corn agnolotti or something and was soooo sweet, there was no savory balance! It was a really small portion size and the pasta was very undercooked... not even al dente. The Battery doesn't try to be one of those snooty London private clubs. As a BIPOC, I say the city doesn't any more of clubs trying to like Londoners. I belonged to two other local private clubs before discovering and joining The Battery. I left one of the clubs during the pandemic as they didn't treat members who were supporting it through the pandemic well. The Battery club is a well designed, the staff has significantly improved over the years. They learn your name quickly. It's member driven philanthropic wing donates about 1.5 million to great socially responsible causes. Members nominate members and a group of members called Ambassadors assist in carefully selecting new members. The result is a cube with a lot of like minded people. Coins can be very larger and difficult to find community, The Battery meets that challenge by forming societies, such as Black +, GLBTQ, Young Professionals, etc. and there is even a social club for foodies. This club is not for everyone but if you like a broad section of nice down to earth people, a nice atmosphere, more events than you can possibly attend and championing great causes, this is the place for you. The owners Michael and Xochi are accessible and enjoy the events among us. read more

I haven't been to all private clubs in the city, but I've been to most. The Battery ranks fairly low. Interior design tries hard, but comes off more as aspirational IG background than comfortable place for members to gather. Staff was cordial--unlike many reviews I'm seeing--but generally detached. Food menu covers the bases, but I was shocked at the prices considering it's offered to paid members and their guests. The house wines are subpar. The Battery is a bit of a private club "safety school:" easier barrier to entry to join and cheaper. Not my cup of tea, but not everyone can get into Olympic. read more

The staff who work there are actually very kind and hard working people. I've experienced them being mistreated by patrons, but never the other way around. Perhaps those who have experienced rude staff are just coming into contact with frustrated people. It can't be easy to serve people who think manners can be set aside because they have money. FYI, manners should NEVER be set aside. I've come as a guest a number of times. There are some nice members. There are some mean members. Just like one would expect in life. However, anytime an air of exclusivity or status is present, vapid low brow types will be attracted. It is nearly impossible to eliminate people like that even with a screening process. This has resulted in a negative vibe about the place. Silicon Valley is home to innovative geeks and nerds who changed the world. Most of them won't be found at the Battery. San Francisco is home to trailblazers of the LGBT and equality movement. Most of them won't be found at the Battery. California is home to people with an environmental conscience. I really like the outside garden area where you can have brunch under the cabana on a beautiful SF day like today. A perfect 78 degrees! We've come here so many times yet I've never written a review. Food is delicious, but service is slow (our waitress is amazing and a great photographer though!). She took a great photo of us (we sat in the corner since no photos are usually allowed). Yes, it's a private club that requires a nomination by a member to become a member, and yes, the customers/members here seem a bit pretentious, BUT we didn't come here to meet other people. Two words: Secret Society. This is where all the hoy-palloy come to play. The Battery boasts a high-end gym, a fancy restaurant, patios and penthouses, library bars, and weekend concerts. You can only be admitted if you're a paying member or come with one. The dining room is filled floor-to-ceiling with paintings of old white men posing with guns (my friends suggested that the decorator a. doesn't live in the Bay Area and doesn't actually know anything about it, and/or b. hasn't read the news in the past 5 years). :D Our lovely friends invited us for a night out and we were thrilled to see the inside of the Battery. Furniture and decor is very stuffy; mostly leather and wood with a sprinkling of dead animals - think a ring of stuffed ducks around the chandeliers. It gets packed later in the evening, around 11 PM - think frat parties from your college days in which people squeeze past each other in the hallways and the temperature hovers around 80°. On the plus side, the food at the restaurant is delicious and it's terribly fun to people-watch. Lots of women who need extra attention wearing red heels and gold tops. If you can manage to go on a concert night, don't miss the jazz. read more

Don't bother. One of my friends is a member at the Battery and she raved to me about how good it is. The Battery's website emphasizes how it's a welcoming and inclusive place. Then, I had the opportunity to attend a party that was hosted at the Battery and I was excited to experience it for myself. I even thought that I would apply to become a member since I live part time in San Francisco. However, the reality did not live up to the hype. The two men who worked at the front desk on March 22, 2022 could not have been less welcoming to me when I arrived at the Battery. "Snooty" would be an understatement. Even though I was attending a party at the Battery and separately being hosted for a pre-party meeting by a member, I was not allowed in and I was instructed to sit on a couch at the front door. Which was fine really, but I did not appreciate their arrogance and lack of customer service skills -- why was that needed? It didn't feel inclusive or welcoming to me. Even though I am not a member of the Battery, I certainly was (until tonight) a potential member of the Battery. It takes so little effort to be nice to a customer, and when you're not nice to customers they remember it forever. Anyway, when my meeting host (who is a member) arrived, for some reason these two men wouldn't let him in either! There was some mixup about his membership. So we had to hold our business meeting out in the street in front of the Battery while they sorted out his membership snafu for 40 minutes. We decided to hold our meeting while taking a walk around the block a few times. By this point I was laughing about how bad the customer service at the Battery is, but my host the member was unhappy. I tried to convince my host/member to laugh about the negative attitudes of the two front desk men to no avail. We all were finally allowed into the Battery when the party began. By this time, I was really "over" the whole scene and just wanted to go home. My host, the member, was mortified about the treatment by the two front desk men. Yes, the Battery itself is beautiful, but when the people who work there are not friendly and welcoming to customers then you're going to drive customers away. I made a quick appearance at the party to greet the hosts because I knew that my attendance was important to them, then I drank a glass of water, ate a small piece of pizza, and high tailed it out of there. As I left, I stopped by the front desk and I told the two men that their poor treatment had convinced me to never be a member at the Battery. Who needs to be a member of a snooty club with poor customer service like the Battery? I think they need to update their website and remove all the references about being welcoming and inclusive. read more

I was here for a private concert for Leon Bridges, so I'm rating this just based on all the different parts of the venue (not the show itself). The battery is a cool place with lots of little nooks and rooms and bars and areas to hang out. I didn't see the menus, but it looked like it would be pretty expensive here. That being said, it also looks like a cool place to grab a drink. I think you may need to be a member to get in. read more

Just want to start by saying love the Ambience and the decor and vibe of the restaurant very good and good service , but I'm afraid the food was very underwhelming and trying to hard . When you have fresh ingredients and product and if you are going to charge 62.00 for a dover sole fish dish and say the higher price is for the caviar butter it's should deliver it was so under seasoned and bland and could not taste the caviar butter at all and I also would never bread a delicate fresh cut of fish , Dover is so buttery on its own it doesn't need breading the breading just ruined it . Please I have no problem spending a good amount of money and high price but you must deliver and this one was just a absolute miss ! Please get creative but the food Has to taste great and delicious . I will be coming back I adored the bar and all of the different rooms really great social club really loved it but the foods got to be better we were a party of 5 . read more
