Fortunately I called ahead to set up a tour (205-5404754) because they are only open Saturday 11-4. What a gem in local history and artists. They had just opened a section on "Wheels" by George T Anderson, Jr on the history of wheels brought to life with hand carved and handmade examples throughout time. There was a native American section with more arrowheads than I have ever seen collected. A 2 seater outhouse and an African-American musician section. Loads of local history and so many other sections to see. We were there almost 2 hours and you could easily spend more time if you wanted. If you are looking for a unique experience this is the place to go!

We had requested a king suite and got a king handicap room by ice machine. The window coverings do not keep the light out very well. TV set up took over an hour because it was so old. One overhead light was inadequate. No electric plug at desk. ADA issue in a handicap room. Mold in shower with no incredably poor caulk job. Bath sink has no faucet aireator so it splashes all over. Coffee maker had a pod in it from the last tenant & only one cup. Poor insulation. Noisy all night from sides and above. Big label on toilet service line was not removed by maintenance. Door locks are butchered. Totally unacceptable shower water temperature. Only one key rather than two provided. Breakfast was good. I asked who owned the hotel at check out. Told an LLC did. I asked if it was foreign owned. They said no it was a Dr. I asked if he was foreign. I was told yes. Somethings never change.

The ceremony view of the amazing Virginia countryside with pond, hills and the changing fall trees was an amazing backdrop. With two sides enclosed, a fireplace and heaters the late night venue was cozy but yet open air (which can be important when pandemics threaten events). Melba made the event so easy for planning. Erica, the bartender, kept all our guests happy. The site has plenty of ice for all bartending needs, a kitchen for food setup and three eclectic bathrooms. We would highly recommend The Pavilion at Blackwater Junction for any event needs!!

We throughly enjoyed ourselves and the two couples we sat with. Everyone was pleasant and talkative. The food served was delicious and well presented. Each course was developed by a student. The one thing we thought was that the noise was out of control. Even the two partners sitting with us. Of course, I had to purchase the cookbooks in the store. I love cookbooks. Now I just need to make something out of them. We both hope, to make it to another Farm to Table.
