What a hack job! Right before our WEDDING!! Beard was so uneven and hacked on. The glass of whiskey offered wouldn't have even cured the disappointment in how my husbands beard trim turned out. Cause he sleeps on one side? That's a reason to shave it shorter on one side than the other? Have heard nothing but rave reviews about this woman and was excited to book before our wedding and he had to come home and shave down to a goatee because it was hacked so badly. I finally found a place to cut my Black American hair! Carina is an awesome barber and much appreciation to the owner for recognizing all types of hair. I went to two different shops to be turned away or not greeted welcomly. The staff here are great, funny, attentive, knowledgeable, pleasant topped with amazing service. Beverages, TV and shuffle board while you wait, priceless. If you're looking for beer try next door and cigars are also next door. My favorite feature is you can schedule appointments online and see the schedules of all available barbers although walk-ins are welcomed but they are usually busy with scheduled appointments. read more

When I was there, there was a "crisis" and all of the women were yelling back and forth while they we cutting hair. Clearly the "crisis" was the hot topic, not the customers. This was my first time ever going to a barber shop, so I did a lot of research and I'm glad I came here. Carina took very good care of me by making sure I got the exact cut I wanted, and she took her time to make sure it came out right. Asked about hair product to use and she gave me a few samples to try out. Very cool. They also offered beer, water or coffee to drink. After going to the "cheap" haircut joints, I finally realized that I not really saving any money getting a disappointing so-so haircut. I drove by "The Barbery" and noticing that it was new, decided to check it out online (next to the Pipe Squire on Cleveland Ave). The prices were reasonable and offered several services. The website was easy to navigate and the online appointment process was good. I likes that the length of time various services were noted. Sundays are also available. Showed up at the shop and the decor is geared to a more refined gentleman style but not stuffy. I met Heather and she gave me a quick review of the shop. Heather explained that she would be a little conservative on the length to be cut saying its easier to take more off than add it on. To start things off, I received a nice hot towel wrapped around my head for a minute or two. Nice touch. Heather proceeded with the haircut and also cleaned up those annoying strays around hairline. Overall the haircut was easily the best I've had in decades. It didn't feel to me that the haircut is rushed and the attention to detail was excellent. For a few extra minutes of time, you get an excellent haircut in a comfortable setting. read more

I'm kind of new to town, moving up from SoCal recently and needed a haircut bad. Sort of stumbled upon The Barbery and glad I did. I was able to get a walk in which I understand can be difficult. I was quickly schooled on the differences of barbers vs. stylists/cosmetologists which aren't subtle! Then was offered a glass of red or white wine, a beer, coffee, water or a soda. Not bad. I got the usual full service treatment that at first concerned me was gonna be "metro-sexual" in nature but wasn't. A nice hot towel for my head and face, trim or all the (facial) orifices and eye brows followed by the best hair cut I've had in a very long time. Heather-Marie runs a damn nice joint geared to dudes and I will for be back for sure. However, securing an online appointment is highly advised. I don't think I'll take my chances again with the walk-in. read more

This place gave me the worst experience of my life! After viewing the reviews on this spot I assumed it was a top notch barber where i could could possibly receive a great clipper, fade pixie cut that most stylists can't achieve as they didn't ever receive clipper training and are unable to obtain. I was turned away by the owner due to the fact that I am a woman. I was told that she only cuts male hair and that her customer base stems from local stylists in the area sending their husbands, boyfriends, sons, etc to her. I was told by the owner that if any one found out that I had cut your hair no one would ever send their male family members to me again. I call bullshit!! I have never heard such an outlandish story. I can say from my core that she was only stating any of this because I am a somewhat masculine female of the lesbian persuasion and she was just being sexist. I have not been that hurt in a very long time! I really hope that others will stand up and say that they will no longer visit her place of business as she doesn't deserve to have one if she is going to pick and choose her clientele. Salon stylists that typically cater to women don't pay attention to these areas on men. You can tell when a service provider is passionate about what they do and this is clearly true at The Barbery. So my husband has just discovered he can grow a badass beard. It's his baby. I've been wanting him to trim the sucker up for months now and looked up The Barbery. We live over 2 hours from Santa Rosa, but I knew he would only commit to a trim by someone who knew their stuff. I showed him their reviews and he reluctantly signed on. The reviews were right! My husband gave Heather (the owner) so much crap about not messing it up and she proved to him that she knew her stuff. He was literally sweating and his blood pressure was probably dangerously high, but he loves his beard trim! The shop is the perfect "man" hang out for every type of man. She offered us soda and water a few times during our visit. We highly recommend Heather and her team! We will be driving the 2+ hours to see her again! read more

Love this place. Every time I've been here I got a great hair cut or beard trim for a reasonable price. They offer drinks while you wait and everyone is super friendly. They do this hot towel massage thing on your head and back of your neck that actually makes the hair cutting experience enjoyable. To top it off they have a great location. The little complex they are in has a good beer and bar food place(fogbelt)and a really good pizza joint.(cibo rustico pizzeria). I just got back from an extremely unpleasant experience, with possibly the worst haircut of my life. I booked a consultation and cut and style online. online it says the consultation involves talking with your stylist and looking at photos. Instead I got maybe two sentences in before she decided I wanted an undercut. Not really what I wanted but I could live with it. She showed me a picture of something that I would have been very happy with. long on the top, with faded sides that weren't too short. I specifically asked that the side be faded from long to short with the top half still long enough to style. instead she used unguarded clippers to shave the entire side of my head up to the long part on top. I pretty specifically asked for it to be tapered. I also asked for her to trim the top a little for it to be neater. She kept the top clipped the entire time, and only shaved the sides of my head. She was extremely cold and there was absolutely no "consultation". the few things I requested she ignored completely. My hair looks terrible, but is so short there's no way to fix it aside from shaving my whole head. They are unwelcoming and don't listen here. if you want anything with a style find someplace else to go. I appreciate that this is a "mens barber shop" so maybe women just aren't welcome to get cuts here. read more

Great place, my go-to barber when I'm up visiting my parents up in Sonoma County. Decent price for a hip haircut, ($25 vs. $35-60 definitely compared to SF). I have only had hair cut by Heather who has done an amazing job each and every time I go in. First off, Heather knows how to build rapport, which allows you ease anxiety and fear from getting haricut, and makes you feel better about telling her what you want when she makes you make decisions ("leave the sideburns I take care of them myself") Heather also explains her analysis of your head... i.e. how your hair acts and checks if that has been your experience. Gives you a beer or wine and a hot towel to make you feel special!! Can get busy with nervous hoping to sneak in, drop-ins and regular customers who love to chat with the master barber but that comes with the territory. Try it out ! read more

I called and no one answered and the voicemail box was full. I was forced to send a note in the "contact us" that I had arrived and was patiently waiting. I have been coming to the Barbery for the last 2 years and received some real good haircuts until the last 4 months. It seems the focus of the staff has moved from customer service to the staff's personal business. During my last haircut there was a new short blond haired stylist who went up and interrupted my stylist 3 times in the middle of my haircut to show pictures to my stylist from her i-phone. Needless to say my haircut reflected the distractions. Even my wife commented my last few haircuts were poor and asked why did I waste my time and money going to this place when there are other options. Two things cost The Barbery a 5 star rating, however: (a) Having to wait 20 minutes for an 11:30 appointment, having just set the appointment that morning at 10:00 a.m. No explanation for the tardiness. (b) The $2.00 credit card fee, which is not disclosed on their website. I get that credit card companies charge the vendor a fee (which is less than $2.00 on a $32.00 transaction), but I was unaware of it and did not have cash with me. read more
