I got a perfectly nice haircut and scalp treatment. The reason I am rating them low is the prices on their website are no longer accurate. The last time I got a senior haircut there, it was $5. Today it was $8. The scalp treatment was supposed to be $3.50. Today it was $8.00! They are not allowed to advertise one price and charge another. When I told the clerk those prices were not on their official website, she just grunted, "well, I'll tell somebody"! She said the prices changed two months ago. But take into consideration the big picture: you just spent five bucks on something that otherwise costs $15, $20, or a full Benny for the frou frou folk. Five bucks. Here's what you need to know. These are barbers that are cranking out haircuts to learn the trade. Some of them are quite new. Some are not. Think about your classes in high school. Some of your classmates were stellar students that studied and got straight A's. Some slept through class. When you show up at The Barber School, you've really got not way of knowing. Luckily they are supervised, but you just have to know up front that it could be the luck of the draw. Hence the fiver. My fella was about to graduate. He was a nice enough kid and I wish him well, but he was still a little timid. It took a good half hour to finish my haircut (last time I got it cut was a world record at under five minutes, but that was at a chain place in Las Vegas) and the quality of the cut is okay. Not my best ever, but not the worst. So was it worth the five bucks? You bet. And leave a tip, wouldya? These guys may be students, and the cheap price is really the star of the show, but they're still people. Throw down a few bills and you're still out for under $10. I have been going to this establishment for over ten years, and have even written a solid five star review in the past. Today however, was different. The last haircut I had there a few weeks ago was the last I would get from that Barber because he was graduating a couple of days later. Well done him. He recommended that for my next haircut I request Isah. I went Thursday, and he was just about to leave so I came back Friday at about 12:30pm or so. When I checked in with the girl at the counter ( she is always courteous and polite) Isah was there next to her. She recognized me from the day before and asked who it was I had requested previously, and I pointed at Isah. He explained that he was going to lunch and it was suggested to me to come back after lunch and I asked Isah what time, he states 2:30pm. No problem for me and I arrived back at 2:25pm. The check in girl told me that he was unavailable the rest of the day. I understand people are busy, but to be told to come back at a certain time and then told he was not available was rude, unprofessional, discourteous, and wasted my time. As I said earlier, I have written a five star rating previously, this time I am giving one star because I can't give a zero star. Obviously the barbershop needs to also include teaching its students professionalism and courtesy to its students. My time is as valuable as anyone else's. I've been going to the barber school for five years now and only had maybe three haircuts I didn't love! These barbers although students are very well trained and very interested in their profession, and their teachers are very hands-on helping them out making sure they're doing a great job! I get a high fade to bald each time and often get my beard trimmed and special hot towel treatment with a straight razor on the neck & cheek cleanup. Some will even do a great scalp treatment for an affordable price. Haircut $8, ($5 Senior 50's) Beard Trim $3! What a deal even when I leave a tip! read more

I've been coming to The Barber School since 2007. This place has gone down hill since Mr. Hite passed away. I drive all the way from North Salt Lake to be a customer here and help these students become professional barbers. Today I was turned away because there were no hot towels? Hot towels are not difficult to make or keep in stock. I'm very disappointed that this business wasted my time and I drove all the way to Midvale for nothing. I have read the review after I have going there for many many years and unnumeral amount of hair cuts. Don't blame the STUDENTS for what happens, they are learning and by the way doing a good job. Some want to Blaine the staff and ex student that got piss off. The divergence between a good hair cut and a bad one? Two weeks. My experience today was terrible!!! First to start my terrible experience I was there for 3 hours getting a cut! When I was almost done with my cut the instructor (Rob) comes over and tell my barber to move out of the way and he takes over and lined me up which I didn't ask for! He brings my hair line over 30 feet, which I definitely didn't ask for!! So if you ever decide to waste your time and energy and go to this place make sure that Rob doesn't come anywhere near you while your there!! Good luck!! read more

This grade is for the education not for the haircut you'll get. Being a school it is hit and miss on what student you get. But if they mess up the instructors are great at fixing their mistakes. Milton and mr. Hite have more experience teaching the art of barbering than anyone you will ever meet. This place saved my life. I am 36 now and I finally have an actual skill. A trade that people call on me daily to perform at a fair wage. I am no longer a tool that corporate America wields, I wield the tools now(shear, comb and razor) My trade is high in demand. Everything I know about barbering came from this school. It was not always easy to learn but going through this school prepared me to be a highly sought after barber. In just 6 months I was ready to cut hair in real barber shops. In less than one year I had replaced the amount I paid for the school in my bank account. In less than 3 years I was leasing my own place. I am providing for myself as well as contracting with other barbers who provide for themselves and their family's by income they make in my shop. That feels good and it was not possible without this barber school and it's instructors. I have since returned part time as an instructor myself. Life is what you make of it.
