We stumbled into this place after a day of wandering around at the royal pavilion. It was not yet 5pm on a Wednesday evening. The guy at the bar asked if we had reservations, which we did not but they did have space to accommodate us. Now you may be wondering about the food. I can confidently say that this beef Wellington was one of the best I've ever had in my life. It takes 30 min for them to make it but it's well worth the wait. I've been to Gordon Ramsay's in Vegas. I've dined in Michelin restaurants. This was better. The filet was melt in your mouth perfect medium rare with a great wine sauce. The puff pastry and mushroom layers complimented it so well and if you can see that technique, no air bubbles between the meat and the pastry. Service was good. I'd come here again just for the beef Wellington.

The fish and chips were average at best. The triple cooked chips were hit and miss, some perfect and others hard in the center like day old roast potatoes. The fish was slightly overcooked and the batter was ok, below average from other fish and chips we've had. The steak was cooked as ordered but again pretty average tasting, the prawns were not the freshest and the squid was delicious. Doubt we'll be back

They had about 10 salads to choose from, most of which were vegan, and a bunch of mains, two of which were vegan. For the main, I got a decadent butter bean dish that was wonderfully flavoured, albeit quite oily. The salads were all quite intensely flavoured too, with a broccoli salad that had a nicely horseradish-dominant dressing, a tomato and bell pepper salad that was nicely dressed, and roasted sweet potatoes. Very filling and good value. I was really happy with the food. I capped off the meal with an American (£2.40), which was definitely above average for UK -- seems like the place is run by Italians, so that might be it. Super friendly and helpful staff who kindly pointed out everything that was vegan. All in all, highly recommended spot near the centre and beach.

I walked past and happened to notice the sign out the front advertising an all you can eat lunch for £6.95 per person. If that wasn't enough of an arm twister, the food on display in the window looked AMAZING! Fresh, fast and tasty! This quiet and cosy restaurant had super lovely staff, and the food was just fantastic. Great little spot for lunch on North Street.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…read more I can't believe that I have been living in Brighton for two years and have only just discovered this restaurant. I one foul swoop it has leapfrogged its way in to my all-time top three. Yes, its a little on the expensive side, but this is certainly a case of getting what you pay for. I booked for my birthday and it was a treat in deed... On arrival, I started with a strawberry balsamic cocktail before moving onto the wine. While browsing the internet prior to making my booking I had already decided on the five course tasting menu but having perused the full menu there were dishes that just couldn't be turned down so we all decided to order from the dinner menu. We were given an amuse bouche of duck terrine, a really nice taster and a change from the usual small soup! For starter I went for the crab raviolli in crab and corriander broth - a combination of really delicate flavours. However, it was the main course that was the true champion of this meal. Trio of pork featuring pancetta wrapped loin on creamed potato - cooked very rare so that it was completely pink in the middle - I have never eaten pork like this before but it was so tender and delicious it was a delight. Pork cheek that just melted in the mouth, and pork belly, again superbly cooked. It was truely one of those dishes that has kept me smiling for days. I was a true piggy (pardon the pun) having a dessert and a cheese board - well, it was my birthday! However, I was finally beaten by the complimentary petite fours that were presented on a plate with "Happy Birthday" written across it in chocolate sauce -the waitress was kind enough to wrap these up for me to take home as I just couldn't manage another mouthful by this point! Overall, a truely exceptional fine dining experience, one I certainly hope to repeat in the not too distant future...

He had read a ton of great reviews for it and thought it would be a good treat. I chose to do 2 courses and he picked 3. What's really awesome is no matter how many you pick, they start you with an amusebouche and end with a small palette cleanser before dessert. It's like 2 free courses! The food was excellent. For starters, we had fried mackerel and the special, which happened to be pan fried scallops. That was followed up by the lamb and the sirloin, both of which were perfectly cooked. We especially both liked the purees that accompanied the meat. Finally, for dessert we shared the strawberries and clotted cream ice cream. Yum! When we arrived, there were virtually no other diners in the room, so we had amazing service (very attentive!) and our pick of tables. I'd highly recommend them and hope to go back someday!

Thankfully they were, and we got to book a table by the lovely central fireplace. What I didn't expect was to discover that it's a superb Sunday Roast establishment! Full disclosure: I am extremely picky about Sunday roast quality. I love them. It is one of my favourite times of the week. On the menu, and I'm assuming here that this was a special Sunday menu, were three choices for meat eaters: chicken, beef and pork. There was still a full regular menu (inc delicious starters) so veggies/fishies are still catered for, but it would have been nice to see a veg nut roast or similar. I ordered the chicken. It was delicious: a full supreme cut, more juicy than I've ever had. The skin was crisp and herbed to perfection: tarragon I think, though i didn't ask. The accompanying vegetables were also cooked to perfection, and a real strong variety of greens and root veg. Roast potatoes were chunky and lovely. Yorkshire was spot on. Gravy was real, could have been a little more of it, though I also should have asked. On leaving I asked what time they usually serve roasts until: 3:30pm unless there are events. If you fancy change from Sunday at the pub, you won't go far wrong. We've eaten there before incidentally, and can thoroughly recommend the place generally. It's delightfully low key and not crazy expensive for a restaurant of such high standards.

You can pop in for just drinks- there is no obligation to eat. In fact the Coach House is a really nice place to share a bottle of wine after a hard day's shopping, as they have a beautiful leafy little courtyard, which becomes quite a suntrap in the summer. It's proximity to the seafront also makes it an ideal place to stop off on your way back from the beach. And if you are hungry, the food is delicious. I have quite often popped in to the Coach House for 'just one drink' and ended up having dinner, simply because other people's food looked so good. And once I've had a glass of wine, all plans for eating at home go out the window! If you like seafood, I highly recommend the lobster ravioli, its really unusual. The Moules Mariniere are also really good. If you do fancy a more formal meal the menu will certainly impress and there is plenty of indoor seating. You can even book your table on-line!

We were visiting from out of town and looking for a place that served dinner in the middle of the week. Apparently these are hard to come by in Brighton! We walked through the door and the waiter told us to wait to see if the kitchen was still serving dinner. I didn't understand why they would still be open if there is a possibility that they weren't serving dinner anymore! He came back out of the kitchen and agreed to seat us. We placed our order and then the waiter disappeared again for a while and basically didn't return until our food was ready. The food itself was pretty tasty, but it wasn't anything mind blowing. Part of the reason that people go out to dinner is for the food, but if the service is horrible, then what's the point?! Based on the service, this would not be a place that I would want to come back to.

A bit pricier than its competitors, and looking a bit dull from the outside, Chez Dimitrina is often quiet and I normally find I can get a table, even at peak times: a real boon in the busy Laine. I'm not sure what culture is behind Chez Dimitrina: I'd have thought Eastern European or something similar, but instead it seems to serve typical European cafe cuisine. The coffees and cakes are all very nice, if a little on the pricey side: nothing compared to the excess of Starbucks and the like, but still quite a bit for a North Laine independent. Chez Dimitrina is nicely situated in the Laine, although it does look dingy from the outside. Looks, in this case, aren't deceiving: the inside is as dingy as the outside, but not enough to be unpleasant, just a little dark and uninviting. This actually plays to Chez Dimitrina's strength: it isn't busy but manages to find a good balance between being empty and pleasantly sparse. A great opportunity to sit in the Laine? Go for it! In the end, it's not the nicest cafe in the area, it's even bordered by some nicer places, but getting a table in the Laine is tough at the best of times, and Chez Dimitrina isn't unpleasant enough to warrant not going: it just isn't anything to write home about. Pop in for a coffee, a cake and a seat on a lengthy shopping excursion.

However, seeing as its rather busy, it may be a little harder to get a group in here for a sit down meal. That said, the food here is worth the effort, with full menus on tables that go beyond the standard all day breakfast and jacket potato that lots of cafs like to offer lunch seeking patrons. I'm also probably slightly biased, as I came in eyeing up the cakes, and was disappointed when I clawed out the last of my change only to find that I was 10p short of the £2.80 needed for a slice of cake. I asked if I could have a slice anyway, saying she could choose the cake if there was one she wanted to get rid of, and she chuckled instead giving me a slice of her favourite. A divine apple filled pastry pie with gorgeous hints of vanilla and cinnamon... Bueno! and the mixed textures of the apple and pastry complemented each other wonderfully... I'm drooling just thinking about it! ... So yeah, now I've cleaned up my keyboard, I'd say this in summary this is a great place to go to alone or as a pair for whatever kind of café based activities take your fancy!
