I recently visited The Baking Room in Clinton Township with my husband and children, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from the moment we walked in. For transparency, my family and I are Black/African American. When we entered, we were the only customers inside, yet the person working at the front counter did not greet, acknowledge, or offer to assist any of us. I actually had to speak first and get her attention to receive assistance, even though she did not appear to be busy at the time. What made the experience especially uncomfortable was watching the difference in treatment when white customers came in after us. Men, women, and children who entered after my family were greeted and assisted right away. I cannot speak to the employee's intentions, but the noticeable difference in how my family was treated compared with other customers made us feel unwelcome and left me concerned that we were being treated differently because of our race. As far as the food, we ordered two different coffees, two Pop-Tarts, banana pudding, and three different quesadillas. The quesadillas were okay, but definitely not worth the drive we made to come here. The Pop-Tarts were extremely thick and hard, and the banana pudding did not taste like banana pudding to me at all. It had a very thick consistency and an unpleasant taste. Between the quality of the food and, more importantly, the way my family was treated upon entering compared with the customers who came in after us, I will not be returning. Regardless of the reason behind the difference in treatment, no customer should be made to feel invisible or unwelcome when entering a business. read more

This random hut nestled off of Hayes Rd apparently serves breakfast items. It's hard to tell from a distance because it's not easy to see. I'm very happy to have discovered it because they do offer some good items here. One thing I need to mention are their home made Pop-Tarts which are big and filled with jams or other spreads. I got the strawberry one and I absolutely loved it with their coffee which is also very good. On a couple of occasions I got bagel sandwiches, one with cream cheese and one veggie with egg. I will say that I'm not a fan of their bagels as much as I want to be. They're not bad, but I actually prefer places like Einstein for bagels. I also found their egg bagel to be difficult to eat because the vegetables and fake egg patty kept sliding off and making a mess. My point is not everything here is perfect, but in addition to what I mentioned above they also have wraps, cookies, brownies, cakes and other items. Customer service here is also top notch as well and you can tell they love what they do. read more

I have been wanting to try The Baking Room for a month or so now and found a mystery box on Too Good to Go on end of day goods. I spent $19 (includes tax) on this mystery box and it was worth it. All of the pastries pictured below were in this mystery box. All of the pastries tasted great, except for the cupcakes. I wasn't really a fan and they tasted kinda off. the cake pops and scone were both pretty moist and tasted great. The cookies were a bit crunchy (but I like them that way). It all tasted great especially for it being reduced price/end of day pastries. read more

Okay so I know I left a review before about deserts and how great they are. But now I'm here because I tried their flatbread sandwiches for the first time. They have breakfast and lunch options. I'm not lying when I tell you this is the best sandwich Iv ever had. Not only do they look good but, the taste is unreal. Crunchy on the outside and you can taste the real ingredients they use. It's as if you made it in your kitchen. They make healthy taste good. Never going to Tim Hortons or Starbucks or wherever we've gotten a breakfast sandwich ever again. We're only going here. Amazing pastry place!! It's inside the Host in Utica. I ordered a breakfast platter and everything was delicious! Some of the favs... the homemade pop tarts and these chocolate croissants. Stoped in to grab a quick lunch. My husband and I split an Italian grilled wrap and a biscoff tart. The wrap was delicious and came with a yummy vinigar based slaw. My husband and I were fighting over the last bite. We also enjoyed the tart. The pastry was flaky and buttery and filling was not too overpowering. Also had a delicious pistachio latte. Loved that it was not too sweet. Prices were a little more then what I would expected but like supporting smaller business. Would love to go back to try more of her things. I really like this place. The Italian Lunch Wrap and the Veggie Bun are stand out sandwiches. They are very delicious. The cherry bar is very good too. I've been to this place a few times, to both locations (Clinton Township & Utica). I also had the Turkey Boss Wrap and the Strawberry Stuff'd Tart. Both were good but my faves so far are the Italian Wrap, Veggie Bun, and cherry bar. I've been going about once a week and the Utica location just opened recently. My goal is to try almost everything on the menu which I know will take time. If I lived closer and were to have a higher income, I'd be in trouble (putting on weight) bc I'd be there more bc everything tastes so good! The customer service is good as well. read more

She is perfection with her work. She gives a tasteful sweet tooth satisfying experience. I ordered my daughter's communion cake here and it was beyond delicious. I asked for a chantilly custard, cream with fruits in a white cake and she made it happen and it was unbelievable everyone loved it. I absolutely love the ALMOND CHOCOLATE CROISSANTS. They are amazing like you have to go grab one or like a half dozen. It's a must try. Also, she's really FAMOUS for her OFF THE CHARTS creative POP TARTS. Look for them they always sell out.
