If this was my pantry I'd be fairly chuffed. But it's Julia's and at least she's kind enough to…read moreopen it up for Kenmorians six days a week. It's conveniently located next to The Single Guys which means it's the perfect combo for a morning coffee and stop to pick up some herbs, a ready made meal for your Parisienne Housewife dinner or to order a cake. On the morning I arrived the store had a delicious scent of cinnamon, cardamom and an array of Christmasy-spices. They'd been baking Christmas cookies and cakes. If there's a psychology of scent these guys have it down and it leaves you wanting to buy whatever they're cooking. And wait there's more: Julia's also have a small selection of bulk flours, oats and grains for purchase. A definite tick of approval in Brisbane's inner-West!

What a delightful experience to be allowed to shop in the pantry of an amazing cook. Julia has…read morecreated an amazing arrangement of both pre-prepared meals and scrumptious cakes. There's always irresistible home made sausage rolls for a snack. Surplus ingredients are for sale at reasonable prices. A jewel in the sometimes saddened western suburbs shops. A very homely feel as you can see Julia preparing meals whilst you browse the array of food.

Delighful, delicous, delovely...yes, this cupcake'n'coffee store looks positively edible…read more From its pink and white candy-striped walls, to the chocolate brown banquettes (complete with cushions and teddy bears); to the divine concoctions on display at the counter, it's a sweet tooth's paradise. I couldn't decide between a Miss Piggy cupcake, or the one with the strawberry cheescake icing (the latter ended up winning the coin toss), so I took it, along with my beautifully creamy cappacino, to devour on the small patio outside. And the cake? Well this is where I differ to most other people so far. I thought it was Ok...but I'm going to go off piste here and say that it was most definitely not the best I've eaten. (I've had better in...gasp...Shingle Inn). I was definitely more taken with the cuteness of the cafe than the cake itself. It should have been fluffier, the icing should have been tastier... Maybe I should have gone with the Miss Piggy after all???

The pink and white theme only adds to the cute factor, along with making it quite impossible for straight men to frequent this place. Inside is just as adorable, with a cosy little booth to one side and a display cabinet full of various cupcake flavours. There are many flavours to choose from; more traditional ones like chocolate and some fancier varieties such as marble, each of which has a chocolate seashell perched on the carefully iced top. I absolutely love seashells but when it comes to cupcakes I believe it's the original and the best, so I chose a vanilla flavoured one. I have to say I was disappointed. The base was delicious and exactly what I would expect of a cupcake, even if it was a little heavy, but the icing was not. The main reason I love cupcakes is because of the amazingly creamy, buttery icing. The icing here is harder and can absolutely not be described as creamy. It's still a nice place and the cupcakes are presented so well that I'm sure I will be enticed into trying them again.
