No, I'm not five years old, but every time I pass a cupcake place, I definitely act like one. Generally, I almost throw a tantrum, as cupcakes are ALWAYS overpriced. But for a good reason here - they are just that darn tasty, they could charge millions for them and I'd still buy them (well...after I've taken out a loan). Snickers, Mars Bars, red velvet, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate fudge, strawberries and cream, cookies and cream, passionfruit and cherry flavoured cupcakes. And they're huge. The actual muffin itself is moist, and quite small, but the icing more than makes up for that. Literally doubling the size of the whole cupcake. If you make the tough decision to only buy one, and not the whole shop, then definitely grab the Cookie Monster. It must have been all of that cookie eating in his life which has made him delightfully tasty!

Not quite as good as some I've had, but very yummy (if pricey) all the same. My one real grump was with the service, I joined another customer in looking at the display, but the sales girl stayed seated until we asked her assistance.

I couldn't decide between a Miss Piggy cupcake, or the one with the strawberry cheescake icing (the latter ended up winning the coin toss), so I took it, along with my beautifully creamy cappacino, to devour on the small patio outside. And the cake? Well this is where I differ to most other people so far. I thought it was Ok...but I'm going to go off piste here and say that it was most definitely not the best I've eaten. (I've had better in...gasp...Shingle Inn). I was definitely more taken with the cuteness of the cafe than the cake itself. It should have been fluffier, the icing should have been tastier... Maybe I should have gone with the Miss Piggy after all???

The pink and white theme only adds to the cute factor, along with making it quite impossible for straight men to frequent this place. Inside is just as adorable, with a cosy little booth to one side and a display cabinet full of various cupcake flavours. There are many flavours to choose from; more traditional ones like chocolate and some fancier varieties such as marble, each of which has a chocolate seashell perched on the carefully iced top. I absolutely love seashells but when it comes to cupcakes I believe it's the original and the best, so I chose a vanilla flavoured one. I have to say I was disappointed. The base was delicious and exactly what I would expect of a cupcake, even if it was a little heavy, but the icing was not. The main reason I love cupcakes is because of the amazingly creamy, buttery icing. The icing here is harder and can absolutely not be described as creamy. It's still a nice place and the cupcakes are presented so well that I'm sure I will be enticed into trying them again.

You will find something tol fulfill your every craving, from a passionfruit tart to lamb & rosemary pie to their candied walnuts. Thankfully their price tags prevent me from making decisions my metabolism will regret, though it means I haven't tried much of their offerings. On a special occasion, I called in to order a small flourless chocolate cake (34) - an easy choice when choosing for a chocolate lover. I was rather excited, as I'd never been able to justify going to Jocelyn's Provisions "just because." The flourless chocolate cake is a dense chocolate cake with chocolate nuts, and toffee and praline bits. Not having looked at the pictures too closely previously, we were all impressed with the sugar lattice on the cake. Although a bit of a strange combination to have paired chocolate with a sugar lattice (flavour-wise), it was a lovely touch to the cake. It says online that the small cake is for 6 people, but we managed to make eight pieces, with all of us being satisfied (and even having some difficulty finishing the cake after dinner at Siam Samrarn). Needless to say, that was one delicious rich and dense chocolate cake! Even though I tend to not be a fan of chocolate cakes - or just cakes in general - if you want a scrumptious and impressive looking cake, this is the place to go!

Okay, let's face it, I'd been hanging out for cake since the night before when as the bride got ready for bed and contemplated her future of wedded bliss I grilled her about the cake. 'What cake are you having? Oh, cupcakes, yum! What kind? Vanilla cake or chocolate? Vanilla, awesome! What colour is the icing going to be?' etc. etc. etc. Yes, the poor thing, I know, but I just love cake. When we walked into the reception venue my eyes were immediately drawn to the tower of pink and white cupcakes in the corner. I decided it would probably be poor form to stick my finger in the icing, but they looked so good that I had a hard time resisting (don't worry, I managed). When I finally got my greedy little paws on a cupcake (or three) later on I was very impressed. Definitely worth the wait. Fluffly, light cake. Smooth, sweet icing. Good cake to icing ratio. It definitely wasn't all the champagne talking, these were some excellent cupcakes. A few days later I asked her where she'd got them from because I wanted to give whoever baked these lovely cakes a good review on Yelp so here I am. Way to go, Cupcakes by K!

They're right near my place we should stop in." Who am I to say no to a cupcake?! So stop in we did and there are no regrets. We got a vanilla, chocochino, red velvet and peanut butter (the latter two are only made on a Friday). I've had CakeStar cupcakes before and they are by far the best I've tasted in Brisbane. They're the perfect balance of creamy icing, moist cake and flavour. They do also make specialty cakes - perfect for any occasion. The best bit about CakeStar? They know cupcakes and cakes like the back of their hand and that's what they specialise in. There's no cupcake slash coffee shop here. If you're coming to CakeStar you're coming for one reason: delicious, made with love and fresh cupcake delights.

When I found out they did cupcakes I had to check it out for myself! I came here with the expectation that they were a cupcake cafe of sorts, but unlucky for me, they weren't. There are no tables or chairs, it is where the business of cupcake and cake making take place. They do however have some adorable cupcakes for sale which which walk-in customers can buy. Yippy! I get a cupcake after all. The cupcakes were super yummy! They have the perfect balance of fluffiness, richness and sweetness. I wish I could make them this good. But then again, this is why CakeStar is in the business of making cakes. Its creators are so talented, not only in baking the cake with the perfect harmony of ingredients, but in designing and applying the final touches. This is what sets them apart. I have only come here for the cupcakes but I am certainly returning for the next event in my life where a cake is required! Take a look at their gallery on their website and you will see why. Amazing!!
