Hidden away…read morealongside Wakiki on watergate street my first visit here was short lived as fashionable lateness had cost me last orders. Howevver we promptly returned the week after and immediately fell in love with the place. What an incredible experiance. First thing you notice is the size of the place. (Tiny) It genuinely feels like a hidden bar from the prohibition era with incredible decor and music that suits the Blues/Jazzy environment to perfection. Being here is like traveling back in time to the 20's when alcohol was illegal and small secret bars like these were littered across America. The theme is consistent with the menu hidden inside a book that's handed to you upon arrival. So mesmerized were we with the vibe and conversation the cocktail taste bud memories are hazy at best. (I'll leave you with a visual of the cocktails we had. One was lemon based the other strawberry based?) This is THE perfect place for those who like sophisticated conversation with your aptly aesthetic cocktails. It's not noisey, it's not busy, it's just right. Definitely worth a visit. I'll certainly be returning.

My one criticism would be that may be the music is too loud but that's that's it. They have an extensive cocktail menu however if there's something not on the menu just asked for it and you will receive. All in all, this is one of my favourite places to go in Chester

I'm from California & live in Toronto, Canada - you can tell Californians because when we live other places we whine about not getting a good burrito. Yes, but I'm in Chester - I wasn't expecting anything or trying to emulate 'home' - we were just walking by & a bit hungry so we popped in thinking it'd be kitschy & cool. Wow. Srsly. The food is a mixture of cuban, spanish, mexican, brazilian, etc. I had a burrito. I would actually rate the burrito a bit better than most of what passes in Toronto. The service was awesome, even tho I hadnn't quite tuned my 'English' ears yet (was needing translation). However the margarita was world-freakin-class. I was expecting some sort of margarita mix/tequila mixture, but it honestly tasted like fresh lime and tequila - like an authentic margarita. It - was- awesome. I doubt I'll have many chances to visit Chester again, but if I do, I'm totally hunting down this place. For expats who might be in the area: check this out for your burrito fix! Wait, now I want to visit Chester again soon and get all around their menu. nom nom nom

There are also non-alcoholic cocktails like Raspberry Ripple too, I plumped for an interestingly titled cocktail called 'Dave'. They all come in fancy glasses so you can do your best Del-Boy impression with the parasols and cherries! They are not cheap though at £5+ for some, so perhaps a place to visit for one round only. There is also a dance-floor in the centre of a good size, which I'm sure was packed later in the evening. Fiesta Havana also does food too, but although we enquired the wait time was too long, by virtue of its popularity. The dishes that came past us looked tasty and were predominantly tapas.

The chicken burger I had was pretty tasty, succulent chicken in a rich herby coating but alas the bun was a little on the soft side though and fell apart pretty easily. That herby coating was a little cloying after a while though so I struggled to finish it, thankfully the fries were very tasty! Pretty reasonable price wise, and the decor was modern but a showing it's age with some wear and tear evident.

I do however well remember the good ol' days of the Fat Cat when you'd have to fight your way in, fight your way to the bar, fight your way to the toilets etc. Not much has changed internally, it still has the same layout and same style, but having recently visited at 10pm on a Saturday night it's obvious that one thing has changed the number of customers. Not only did we not have to fight our way in we pretty much had the run of the place and not only did we find somewhere to sit (something practically unheard of in the old days) we had a wide choice of seats to select from. This may be partly due to the fact that the bar doesn't target the usual Saturday night drinking crowd. There's no cheap lager, only more expensive brands served up in fancy glasses. Some of the small band of customers present were buying cocktails which were served up with dry ice capsules that made the drinks smoke, something that looks impressive but probably doesn't add to the flavour! As well as drinks they also serve food but no-one seemed to be eating that late at night so we had no chance to sneak a peek at other people's grub. All in all it's a nice and reasonably upmarket place (the toilets need a revamp and hopefully refurbishment will be on the new owners to-do list) but you wonder if the demand is still there for a place like this in Llandudno, especially considering not only that the Fat Cat closed because the owners went bust but also that a rival bar & grill is set to open a few doors away.

The Botanist have a growing number of locations, the big majority of them are in Northern England,…read morethis is one of their newer restaurants which opened towards the end of 2019 in Warrington. The decor inside is typical Botanist style, it does look good and the staff are pretty friendly (although some of them don't seem to be wearing a uniform which meant I didn't even realise someone worked there when I was waiting for a staff member!) It can get pretty busy at peak times, especially in the run up to Christmas, I did originally try to visit on a Sunday afternoon and this place was full, I do recommend making a booking if you can, they do require a credit/debit card for this but they only charge you if you fail to attend, which is a flat £5 (pretty fair, especially considering they can only run at limited capacity to follow government legislation). I was offered a free bottle of prosecco as part of their loyalty scheme which can be redeemed two weeks before (or after) one's birthday, I feel this is a nice gesture, I don't really like prosecco so it's a shame it couldn't be swapped for anything else other than a soft drink, especially considering most of their cocktails are much cheaper anyway - that is an issue with Head Office and it's still a nice gesture to offer something for free. I ordered the gluten-free chorizo and chicken kebab, it seems the recipe has been changed slightly, there seemed to be more garlic butter actually on the chicken rather than pouring it over (which has been replaced by a paprika oil to give it a slight kick), it gave it that extra flavour and tasted really good, the chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly, the chorizo was just OK, and the fries on the bottom were good. My friend, who ordered the fish and chips was also pleased with her dish, she mentioned: "It was almost perfect, however, the curry sauce was a little watery." I also like how they now have a digital bill, not only is this better for the environment but it means I can have a receipt emailed to me and also fill in feedback on the tablet which they serve it on. 4* - The food was really good, and this is one of my favourite locations in The Botanist chain and I will be returning. A couple of flaws mentioned but all in all a pretty good place to grab some food.
