Went in here for an oil change and to get the car checked out because of its reviews. I'll definitely go back. Deets: Called the place before I went in just to know if they can accommodate an oil change. Curtis was very courteous over the phone. Asked me to bring it by. Location is great. Dropped the car and the keys off and Curtis offered to do the oil change right away. I had to be somewhere, and so I told him that he could take some time. Got a call from them with information about my car. I have to say, I was very impressed by their professionalism. Gave me all the information I needed to know. Took the time to explain everything because I'm not good with cars. I really liked how they didn't just tell me what needed to get done, but also explained what was wrong so that I could go research more on my own. read more

We were headed to Southern Indiana for Labor Day weekend and had a breakdown late in the afternoon on Sat. They were The only shop open in Lafayette. We called to see if they could work on it and they were more than willing to go the extra mile, working past closing to get us back on the road. The TL;DR: GO HERE. Buzz and Curtis are honest, fast, and do great work at super reasonable prices. They were able to get me in, diagnose the issues, get the parts, and repair my car SAME DAY. They charged me literally 1/4 of what my mechanic back in Chicago quoted it at. They're AMAZING and if you ever need anything done, trust these guys. The long version: I just moved to Lafayette this week, and wanted to get my car checked out right away. After a routine oil change back in Chicago, my mechanic quoted me at almost $2,000 to fix issues with the front and rear brakes, an oil leak, and a windshield wiper fluid sprayer. My coworker Scott went to the Autotorium a few weeks ago when he broke down in Lafayette and told me these guys took care of him for a super reasonable price. I pulled up around 9 AM and talked to Buzz. I asked when he'd be able to get me in just to look at it, and he said "hopefully today!" I was super grateful for them getting me in same-day because they had a lot of cars around the garage and it seemed they were super busy. Just a few hours later, I got a call from Curtis letting me know they had already taken a look at the car. He noticed the oil leak and the wiper fluid sprayer, and noted that the front brakes were shot. But he told me that due to the nature of the rear brakes (I'm not a car person, sorry!!) removing the rear brake shoes to get to the drums may actually cause additional damage. He said that when driving the car, he didn't notice anything going on with the rear brakes, and told me that it would honestly be fine NOT to replace the rear brakes. Imagine -- a mechanic trying to PREVENT you from doing unnecessary work! Amazing! He told me that he also noticed that the car vibrates a lot, which was caused by the engine mount. He said that they could fix everything else today, but it'd be until tomorrow before he could get the part to fix the vibration. I said that's fine, thanked him, and said I'd talk to him tomorrow. Imagine my shock when at 4 PM, I get a call from Curtis saying my car was done! "The guy's shipment from Indianapolis was delayed, so he was able to get the part on the shipment. It came in, so we just took care of it today." Amazing!! The final straw that made me realize I HAD to write this review was the price. It was around A QUARTER of the price I was quoted at in Chicago! And when I went to give Curtis a $20 tip, he refused it. "You don't have to do that, this is just what I do." AMAZING!!! If you're like me and you're terrified of mechanics taking advantage of you (because of bad experiences at places like Jiffy Lube and my mechanic back in Chicago), go here. My husband and I went here while we lived in Lafayette. I'm not a cars person and my husband sort of is because his dad is one. So, if my husband trusts them then I do too. The men here are very polite and are honest. I had a bumper kind of hanging off the front of my car and the gentlemen let me know that he might be able to fix it. No promises but he'd try. He got it done. It's been a few months now and it's still good. I also had a few other problems with my vehicle totaling $1000+. Now, there are definitely some places that tell you that and it makes you stop and think. And I did. But, I went forward with it. I had a lot of driving to do and didn't want to take any risks (doing a long-ish distance move that would require driving back and forth for several weekends), my husband thought they were probably right (although he didn't check the car. Just his opinion), and to be quite honest...the men here just seem sincere. That's truly it. So, I'm not a real cars person but so far so good. If something happens to my car that seems related to what I got done, I'll come back and update. read more

As a Purdue student and now as a working professional, I have tried several different garages around West/Lafayette. I have FINALLY found one that I want to go back to!! I had my car towed here after I knew I was getting scammed at a chain garage. I dropped my car off just before closing, and by the next afternoon it was done - prompt, exactly what they promised, and for exactly how much they had promised! I think Curtis is the one I talked to on the phone, and he was kind enough to give me some pointers on things that might be issues in a few months. I have been taking all my cars to the Autotorium for at least 15 years now. Buzz and Curtis are old school. Hard-working, honest, and very fair pricing. Through the years, I have clued all my extended family in and now they also take their vehicles there also. I want to give them 5 stars but I can't. I have no complaints about the work they did on my car and I think they know what they are doing and do good work. My low rating is for customer service. I took my car in after seeing all the great reviews. I had a check engine light and a rough idle. Took it in and they pulled the codes and thought they knew what it might be. I was quoted $160 total for the part and labor. They ordered the part and had me bring it back the next day. Later that day I called and they told me it wasn't the part they suspected and they were doing some more testing to find out what it was. This was a Friday so I left it there overnight and Saturday around 1pm I called to get an update. I was told they changed the MAF sensor and the light went off but he wasn't positive it wouldn't come back on. I asked how much I owed and he said he hadn't figured it up yet. I headed to go pick it up thinking surely it was less than the $160 they had permission for on the other part. No, I get there and it was $272. Nobody called me to get my permission to put that part on or to give me a quote! If they had called and told me they suspected this sensor I probably would have done it myself had they quoted me $272!! I'm sorry this happened because I came here because of the great reviews but I won't be going back because of this experience. I expect a mechanic to call me and make sure I want something done before they go ahead and do it and charge me without my consent or knowledge. The worst part is my car isn't even fixed, I don't blame them for that but now I've spent almost 300 bucks and am still in the same boat. Not a good experience at all. read more

This is place is the best. I took my car here because it wouldn't start. It turns out the engine was just flooded. He unflooded it for for me. I asked Curtis how much and he said "I'm not going to charge you for this". He literally fixed my car for free. Granted unflooding is not that hard to do, but the fact he even looked at it for free is amazing. I came back for an oil change and Curtis noticed a leak but didn't try to push anything. He just said "keep an eye on the oil so it doesn't get low". Probably the best shop I've been to. Super nice and smart guys. read more

I brought my aging Camry to these guys on the high recommendation of a manager at one of the local tire retail chains -- and it was a great call. The tire store rotated the tires for free at the 5,000 mile mark, as they normally do, but I could hear the right rear tire whining/ rubbing as I left the lot, and drove back and told them to re-rack it. They did, and said the right rear strut was wrong and was wearing a small groove into whatever tire it was attached to. I took the car back to the local dealer, who I've used since I bought the car there over a decade ago. The dealer, who'd put on the new rear struts back in May, re-racked the car and, after examining the struts, insisted that they were the correct ones. I even left the car with them for 10 days to see if they could figure out what was making the groove being worn into the new-on-the-wheel tire and causing the noise -- they could not. I asked the tire store what to do, and they sent me to Curtis at the Autotorium, saying that the shop has been in business for, like, 40 years, and unlike most dealerships, the father-son team are true mechanics in the old-fashioned, seasoned-pros sense. Curtis knew immediately that it was a strut problem, and even had a mechanic buddy of his, independently confirm it. Not only that, he (a) saved the two May-installed struts for future evidence of being charged for new parts and labor that were wrong for the car, and (b) took photos of the wrong right-rear strut as proof of the screw-up. Further, he noted that the car had 3 different styles/ models of struts on it when he got it: an "A" style on the 2 front tires, a "B" style on the left rear, and a "C" style on the right rear (!!) He fixed it, it works like it's supposed to, and I now get to deal with the dealer for a refund. But Curtis and Autotorium get an A+ in my book! I'll be bringing my mom's car to him, next. Oh, and honest Curtis charged 57% of what the shyster dealer charged. read more

Autotorium is OUTSTANDING!! After packing my son up at a Purdue dorm to drag a Uhaul home to Cincy for the summer our tow vehicle broke down late in the day (15 minutes before closing time at Autotorium) just off campus. I was able to get it over to their shop where they took me right in, diagnosed the problem and had already ordered parts for ASAP delivery. I was completely surprised and very impressed to receive such quick help. Before I knew it the car was jacked up and being worked on. It wasn't like their shop wasn't already full of other repairs in progress. Despite the fact that the parts supplier misunderstood and did not sent the parts right over, the owner raced right out and got what we needed ..... Afterhours!! In short order they had me fixed and on the road again. The price was far lower than I had expected. They had every right to put me off until the next day but didn't. They could have charged much more but didn't. They could have stopped for the day when the part didn't show up as expected, but didn't. These guys are the BEST. They run the kind of repair shop we all wish we had access to. From other reviews I see they are a father /son team, Buzz and Curtis.
